To ask how much you save each month roughly?

As the title says - how much does the average household save each month once everything is paid? Some families won’t be able to save anything and that’s their experience.

zero
£50
£100
£200
£500
£750

We’re all different of course but would like some insight of the average house - thanks

700-1k but I have low rent and no children which helps!!

Saving for house deposit, holiday fund, car, sinking funds.

Spectre8 · 11/08/2024 22:59

Belindabelle · 11/08/2024 23:00

Miniwaves07 · 11/08/2024 23:03

Currently around £50 per month. 2 pre school aged children

Raggeo · 11/08/2024 23:05

Married, 2 children under 5, mortgage and car loan.

TheHateIsNotGood · 11/08/2024 23:05

Nil

Overthebow · 11/08/2024 23:07

We have 2 DCs and a large mortgage. Not much at the moment as I'm on mat leave so only £200 a month at the moment. Once I'm back at work we'll be saving about £600 a month.

Luuise · 11/08/2024 23:09

£1.2k per month

Cobblersorchard · 11/08/2024 23:10

£0

But I have 2 houses, a child and defined benefits pensions. So I’m all good.

I have some high outgoings at the moment and working slightly part time. All of which will alter shortly, then I will be back to saving about £1k monthly.

TippledPink · 11/08/2024 23:11

2.5k approximately. Lots of things we need to save for currently though!

Octoberdreaming · 11/08/2024 23:13

£200 minimum - more if I can, but things always come up which eat into it. I usually use savings towards a holiday for me and DS.
I am a single parent with one child, a mortgage, no partner. I own my car thankfully so no car finance and no debt to pay off other than mortgage, but my bills and living costs like council tax etc.. are expensive and I’m a low income household so there just isn’t much left over to save.

GiantRoadPuzzle · 11/08/2024 23:13

5k. But we’re both high earners and mortgage free. Funded nursery hours helping too.

That will drop slightly over the next couple of years with mat leave & nursery/wrap around school care.

EmeraldDreams73 · 11/08/2024 23:15

Nothing. Two adults on low wages, one dd at Norland (studying to be a super nanny) which costs a BOMB but will be worth it, and dd16. Their dad doesn't contribute to their costs. We have a small mortgage but spend a fair bit on food. Can't see us being able to save more than the odd £50 here and there for another couple of years but really want to save for a holiday.

MsCactus · 11/08/2024 23:18

Currently saving £3.5k a month. Moving house so about to have a much higher mortgage - so from next month we'll save £2k a month.

High earners though, and high outgoings tbh

snowballsintheoven · 11/08/2024 23:20

At the moment, around £2,800pm

Both work full time, mortgage of £800pm on a big house (NI, if that helps) and 2 DC (3 and 10) - no childcare costs though

Newish nice cars bought outright, holiday a few times per year - I'll get to work on overpaying the mortgage shortly - on a five year fixed at a very low rate so the money is doing better in savings

We are very, very fortunate

whyamiawakestillitssolate · 11/08/2024 23:21

I’m never sure what people mean by savings - we put money away for car replacement, holidays, house repairs etc but all will be used in the shortish term (within 3 years say) - prob £1k or so a month.

We don’t really have anything left after that to “proper save” (as in into a long term no touching pot) other than standard pension contributions.

MarshmallowVeronica · 11/08/2024 23:25

£1k per month. In our 40s with no kids.

I'm sorry to be that person but I find it really upsetting that you are accepting funded hours and able to safe 5k a month. That system is clearly broken

Thecatspjymas · 11/08/2024 23:32

Save*

ImikSiMik · 11/08/2024 23:33

£400 pcm for me split between cash savings, ISA & premium bonds

£200 pcm each per dc split between stocks & shares ISA & cash savings accounts

£200 pcm for holidays, gifts etc in a basic savings account

Mum2GirlSs · 11/08/2024 23:37

£900 per month

£800 for my savings
£50 for each for my 2 girls

SmileLady · 11/08/2024 23:37

Between 300-500 per month. But usually much less. Not high earners and have 5 kids
Mortgage is alot.

Noodlehen · 11/08/2024 23:39

Between £1,200 and £3,000 a month. I’m not working, my husband does shiftwork so sometimes we spend more save less depending on when he’s off / home.

Nsky62 · 11/08/2024 23:40

Much less than most, but some, 62, mid stage Parkinson’s, cat and I
