To ask if I’ve bought excessively?

I am expecting my first baby and have become an avid bargain hunter on Vinted. I’ve purchased a set of 4 vests from Next, brand new in packet, for £1! With postage it was still less than £4.

Sorting through what we have bought for baby and discovered we actually now have 20 short sleeve vests in 3-6 month size. Is this an excessive amount and should I resell some of this size or will they come in handy?

Depends on your baby and how often you do washing. Might be absolutely loads, but if you have a sicky baby though you might get through 6-8 vests a day

Ratfinkstinkypink · 10/08/2024 15:34

I'd keep all 20, it's amazing how many changes you can go through in 24 hours

Wow as many as that?

Yep, I’d keep them then re-sell any that don’t get used once they’re too small for the baby. It only needs a couple of days of not doing washing (ie a weekend away) and a baby’s wardrobe is depleted!

True, I suppose I never thought of it like that!

I mean I wouldn't tell anyone they needed 20, but baby days involve a lot of washing. So it's not excessive to have 20 beats ir baby grow or bibs. Especially plain cotton stuff that washes easily.

LiterallyOnFire · 10/08/2024 15:54

Sorry autocorrect went mad there. Vests, babygros, and bibs.

HappyLittleNarwhal · 10/08/2024 15:54

I had a puker and one day literally ran out of clothes for her. Keep them!!

shortfatfatty · 10/08/2024 15:56

You'll be surprised how many you'll throw out/go through in a day. I think that's fine.

Caspianberg · 10/08/2024 15:56

It was more than we needed. Ds was never a sicky baby and use washable nappies so never had leaks. Generally only used one outfit each day. In dribble phases we use bibs so outfit stayed dry and just a few extra bibs

I aimed for around 8 of each main item like vests and sleepsuits
Maybe 4 leggings or dungarees max in each size
And then 2 -4 cardigans or jumpers ( depending on age and season.)

Never used loads of muslin clothes either people talk about needing millions off. A couple for drying at nappy changed was plenty

Princessfluffy · 10/08/2024 15:56

Keep the vests as spares and if you don't open them give them to a friend

sadabouti · 10/08/2024 15:57

It's not too many. Babies create an incredible amount of smelly fluids and leak it all over themselves all day long. You'll be glad of the spares for drawer at home and your going out bag.

spiderlight · 10/08/2024 15:57

Keep them. I had a puker who was also a poonami specialist. I think his record was twelve full changes of clothing in a day.

Caspianberg · 10/08/2024 15:59

@shortfatfatty - I never threw out any baby clothes. Baby sick or poop washed out fine ( we were washing baby nappies so any extra vest wouldn’t be an issue).
Only once Ds was a toddler do we now throw most leggings or trousers as he gets holes in them before outgrown

Moltenpink · 10/08/2024 16:00

Perfect amount, I would say. I would never admit this in real life, but a few of the worst poonami ones ended up straight in the bin with mine!

bryceQ · 10/08/2024 16:04

I didn't need very many a day as my son was rarely sick or poonamis but you absolutely can't tell. Also depends how quickly they grow.

mummyat23 · 10/08/2024 15:40

Well, yeah. How many times a day do you feed a baby? A sicky baby might brown up after every feed.

romdowa · 10/08/2024 16:09

I had a reflux baby and we had piles and piles of vests and onsies. We often changed him 3/4 times in one hour

Normallynumb · 10/08/2024 16:14

Keep them.
I had a very sicky baby who thought nothing of throwing up half then again at the end of a feed( in nicu tube fed at first)
It also might stretch your laundry out another day!

LiterallyOnFire · 10/08/2024 16:24

Not all babies puke and leak multiple times an hour though OP. Don't be pa Ickes by the responses.

Investing in some bibs would help, with the very-sicky scenario.

Yup. Baby 1 literally never brought up sicky winds - I wondered why people always had muslins.

Baby 2 soon taught me a lesson. We both frequently needed full changes.

Keep the vests.

Onlinetherapist · 10/08/2024 16:46

@mummyat23 i would keep them especially if you plan to breastfeed.

Invisimamma · 10/08/2024 16:50

Keen them. I had a sicky baby and changed at least 3 times a day.

If you don't use them you can always put them back on vinted later.

Lolloped · 10/08/2024 16:50

I had no where near that many but you may as well hold onto them and then resell later.
