to report this to the police, even though I am technically implicating myself?

My local park is locked overnight and isn’t opened until 6am. It’s a huge park but in one area part of the fence is missing so I squeeze through and go into the park to walk my dog at 4am (he is an XL bully so I like to go the park when nobody is about)

The last few mornings when I have been walking round by the pond there have been a couple of men sitting on the benches next to the pond “feeding the ducks”. I noticed they have black bin liners next to them too. I’m pretty sure I recognise these men from working in a takeaway restaurant.

I am concerned they are trying to catch ducks. I hope i’m wrong, but I just can’t see why two adult men would sit feeding the ducks at 4am?! Especially as the park is officially closed and they have bin liners next to them.

AIBU to report this to the police, even though I’ll be implicating myself too?

I didn’t say my dog is offlead? I was just making the point that I could technically as it was private property overnight when locked.

I follow all the rules with my dog, don’t worry.

It’s not private property. It’s public property, closed or not. Private property means it’s not owned by the government/local authority. The park isn’t yours, it’s not your private property.

@DogsandFlowers you know this isn't Facebook don't you?

I’m definitely with you on this one op, they are there to nab some free ducks why else would they be there at 4am in the morning? Its pretty obvious what they are up to.

Thank you!!!! Im really suprised how many people are saying it is far fetched. It seems pretty obvious to me what they are up to.

The locked park is not private property and definitely not your private property. You have no authorisation to use it and certainly not for such a dangerous animal. Please report it to the police so they can take the dog away.

Yeah right how many men do you know who finish a night shift then go into a locked park to kick back and feed ducks ?????? 🤣

They quite possibly share a room/bed and have to wait till the people who use it at night get up and leave for the day.

OP please address the issue that so many people have raised and you are willfully ignoring...do you realise the park being shut doesn't make it private property?

selfesteemfan · 10/08/2024 16:34

Reporting them for what, having bin bags?

I'd be more concerned someone might report me if I owned an XL bully.

Odd post tbh.

Surely this makes me a responsible XL bully owner? As i’m walking him at 4am when the park is closed, therefore it’s on private property?

Not having an XL bully would make you a responsible dog owner .

I have to agree with this. Plus they are not 'XL Bullies'. They are pit bull cross: a breed that was supposedly banned, and with very good reason, back in the 90s.

Perhaps if people were to call them by their accurate name they might be viewed as the extremely dangerous animals they actually are.

I'm no lawyer but... is this really how you think that works?

GoldieFurEverywhere · 10/08/2024 16:36

@Imperrysmum

"You’re allowed to walk an XL bully off lead on private property? The park is closed at 4am so it’s private property.".

Errrm, it's not YOUR private property though, is it.

Fariha31 · 10/08/2024 16:37

ahahaha is this for real 😂

Load of old cobblers, funny for a while. Maybe they sit on the binbags if it's been raining, who knows.

It's not your private property though. There could be council workers doing regular maintenance work, safety checks etc. They deserve to be safe from your dangerous dog.

A property that is being privately used is private property no? It’s not like it is someone’s house, it is a public park that is closed and I am (or was) using it privately.

Anyway he is on lead & muzzled

Diyextension · 10/08/2024 16:40

I used to work with some iraqi men , they thought it was completely normal to eat the local wildlife and used to go fishing early in the mornings to catch fish and take them home to eat. They couldn’t understand why English people put the fish back in the water after they had caught them 🤣.

They are definitely taking the ducks to eat. Probably putting a net on the floor , then feeding them so they walk on the net then whip them into the black bag.

CrunchyCarrot · 10/08/2024 16:40

Be ready to duck if they glance in your direction.

I see what you did there! 😂

ShinyNewMe · 10/08/2024 16:41

If anyone can stealthily lure one into a bin bag then I take my hat off to them!

Yeah. Think of all those jobless labradors.

EveningSpread · 10/08/2024 16:42

Imperrysmum · 10/08/2024 16:05

Because I like the way they look and I feel safe having it with me. What’s the big problem, I follow all the rules.

Why do you feel safe having it with you?
