To not give in to DD1 and let her have her hair cut

I have been growing dd1 (shes 3.7 foing on 21 at the moment ) hair since she was born and she has wavy/ringlet hair (I've just taken a pic and put it on profile)

I love her hair and she gets loads of comments on it but now she wants me to take her to hairdressers to have it cut off.

I said 'no' because I know she'd want long hair again and wouldnt understand she'd have to wait.

I am not being unreasonable am I (DH said its her hair and we should let her!)

My DD is 6 and has hair about half way down her back. It's a pain to sort out but she loves it and I'd never make her cut it.
My Mum made me have a short back and sides till I was about 7 after years of begging her to let me grow it and I've never forgiven her.
I hate all the photos of me from when I was young because of it

duh like ds4 can tell you I remember the pics form your holiday last year he is a proper little surf dude!

I am really hoping that she won't want it done, but of she does insist and thinks the same in a week or two I will compromise by letting her have an inch or two off, honestly I dread to think what a diva she'll be in teenage years

She's nearly 4? She is too young to decide IMO what to do.

Take her to a hairdresser and get an inch off the ends; it will make it healthy getting rid of the dead ends and give her the experience whilst keeping the GORGEOUS hair (it is amazing!)

Thanks Lewis - it doesnt always look that good - but I invested in spray in conditioner which seems to have made it more curly (I'd love hair like that!)

Oh and she had her hair straightened by her auntie the other week (I did agree) and she looked weird with straight hair (there is a pic of that with her bandana and glasses on further down in my profile)

eandh, this is totally off topic but did you go fro your smear?

I just saw the smear test thread and thought of you ...

DD had wavy long hair JUST like your daughter, when she was 11 she wanted a bob, we went to the hair dressers it was cut and GHD'd. The next day we went swimming, she got in too the car to come home with wet straight hair and got out of the car with hair looking like this It was the biggest shock of my life. Didn't do much for dd either and she wanted to grow it rather quickly after that.

Ggirl..my dd1 has long blonde hair to her waist...as I said she has asked a couple of times to have it cut and I have declined or postponed..within a few weeks or so she is telling me the style she would have wanted is not 'in' anymore and she is happy about having long hair still.
She is the only girl in her year to have long, unstyled naturally blonde undyed hair!! And she stands out because of it.

(I did let her have a fringe cut into it last year and she regretted that after a month or two...)

colander · 15/04/2008 23:31

I always wanted hair like that, but mine grows so slowly.

Can you compromise with a couple of inches off now? Is it that she is fed up with brushing/detangling etc associated with long hair?

I bet she'll change her mind soon, anyway!

brimfull · 15/04/2008 23:34

dropdead-she must have beautiful hair,do you let her get it trimmed?

I'm amazed she hasn't demanded to have her own way by now.

Dropdeadfred · 16/04/2008 09:11

ggirl...she has it trimmed regularly. if i really belived that she wanted it cut I would have relented but i have promised her that after sheis\my briesmaid in Aug she can do what she likes...But i'm sure she will keep the length though..when nshe was little she wanted to be rapunzel...
