AIBU?

I genuinely would like opinions - what does the definition of "new" condition cover on ebay?

New means new. Unused.

Send it back.

'new' I would exect to have never been used.

'as new' would expect to have an opened box and maybe used once or twice but still looking as if it has never been used.

Your one was clearly well used!

I wouldn't consider what you bought as 'new'.

New = new. Totally unused. Possibly taken out of the box. Even tried on in the case of clothes. But definitely not used. Return it, and report them to eBay.

New is unused. I believe that you are no even allowed to use the term "as new" any more on ebay, it's either new or it's used. The box wouldn't bother me TBH but if it's been used....yuck!

Yes new = new. As new means nearly new, i.e very very good condition. But new means new. Everyone knows this. E-mail and send it back. Pronto.

surely if you were spending £65 you could have bought one from a shop?

also, NCT hire out breastpumps, you might not need or use one in the end either.

I dug in the eBay Help system:

An item is considered "New" when it meets the following criteria:

It is in the original condition from the manufacturer, distributor, or retailer.

It has not been refurbished or used for any purpose.

It has no known defects or damages.

Why are people harping on about how much she chose to spend on it. It's her money, she's not asking for advice on where to buy a cheap breast pump.

Any excuse for a quick judge eh?

well, quite.. can paypal help?

might be worth asking the NCT what breastpumps they hire out..
but good to be organised and research the one you want...

I hope they don't mess you around!

What sort of pump was it? An electric one?

I would be livid at this - well out of order. If you don't hear back from them I would mail again and tell them that you will open a dispute with paypal (as receiving an item that is significantly different from thatdescribed) if you haven't heard back from them by x date but that you would much rather resolve this amicably as you're 'sure it was a misunderstanding on their part' (yeh right but it might make them more likely to respond). Paypal will find in your favour and give you the money back but do not refund postage which was probably significant for a breast pump so being amicable with the seller might get you that back too.

It's true you can't say as new anymore - I have been selling some stuff recently and ad 4 listings cancelled as I had this in the title and didn't realise.
