To not eat food prepped in the sick bowl

Homeiswherethedogis · 09/08/2024 19:35

Just walked in on DH mixing the ingredients for our dinner in a bowl... Which has also been used as the kids sick bowl a couple times! Yes it's been cleaned since housing the sick but I still don't really want to eat tonight's meal.

I'm being told that's silly and to get over it.

AIBU?

Yes - eat the meal DH has made
No - that's gross don't eat

@Longma yes. Norovirus can only survive on fomites (non biological vectors) for 7 days so your average microbiologist wouldn't be overly concerned about that.

Well you're clearly rich enough to turn your nose up at food. So buy a different bowl and keep this somewhere else where it's purpose is clear!
YABVVU to keep it In the kitchen cupboards along with everything else used for food preparation if you didn't want it used anyway. Fair enough to want a bowl downstairs but keep it on a different cupboard or something.

Edited

This. I'd eat.

bakewellbride · 09/08/2024 19:59

I wouldn't eat it!

We have a special bucket for sick etc and it is in the cupboard under the stairs!

mistymirror · 09/08/2024 19:59

I wouldn't eat it!

Biffbaff · 09/08/2024 20:00

Where do you stand on drinking out of glasses that have been used to catch spiders? Because if I'm honest, I do avoid them for a bit (a couple of washes later) before feeling like it's safe to drink from them again.

Shan5474 · 09/08/2024 20:00

Is it a hot dinner or cold dinner? I’d personally eat it because I know the bowl has been washed but maybe thinking about the fact that the food has been heated to a temperature that will kill bacteria will be helpful?

Not as much of an aversion as vomit though is it lol, I'm not worried getting ill.

ah ok I understand now

TheOldPeahen · 09/08/2024 20:01

Let DH eat it, and if he's still standing tomorrow, claim some of the leftovers

PetrichorSoul · 09/08/2024 20:01

Have you all lost the art of washing dishes?????

Autumn1990 · 09/08/2024 20:02

We have special sick bowls. They were bought for that purpose. They live in the bathroom cupboard
I really wouldn’t want to eat food prepared in that bowl.

TimetoPour · 09/08/2024 20:03

I am absolutely sure it will be fine if it has been disinfected and through a hot wash but I get the “ick” factor.

Our sick bowl is an old washing up bowl kept up the sink- doubles up for soaking the dreaded white socks.

Oh god yes this is also me!

If your sick bowl is normally kept in the kitchen cupboard, is the kind of bowl that would typically be used for food prep (rather than a bucket from the garage) and has been thoroughly washed and not used for sick recently then it will be absolutely fine.

FairisleFairy · 09/08/2024 20:10

Is the food being cooked after mixing in the sick bowl? If so then no problem.
if it’s a salad or something I’d be less keen!

my DH does stuff like this as well . I’ll come in from work to find him using the old plate I use for cutting raw chicken. Like, what’s wrong with one of the many other normal uncontaminated plates we have!!

Feellikeafailurenow · 09/08/2024 20:10

I wouldn’t even if it is just psychological i couldn’t eat it but i have a separate sick bowl stored elsewhere so that never happens!

IDontHateRainbows · 09/08/2024 20:12

We have a steel bowl that fulfills a multitude of purposes... yes it's been a sick bowl abs a food prep bowl. We have a dishwasher. A good clean in there erases its memory and reboots it for the next job.

I have a separate “spider catcher” one 🙈 lives in the same cupboard my sick bowl does!

Irridescantshimmmer · 09/08/2024 20:14

URGHhhhhhhhh🤣

Fudgetheparrot · 09/08/2024 20:15

Yeah our sick bowl is just our big mixing bowl, have eaten plenty of things prepared in it!

ramsayboltonshounds · 09/08/2024 20:17

We haven't even got a sick bowl! I shit you not, but not once, ONCE, in the 13 years of life my child has been on earth, has he ever been sick! Not even as a baby and me & DH can obviously get to the loo to speak to hughey so we've never needed one! One day, when he is eventually sick, he'll panic because it'll be totally new!

On the point of your post though OP, no I wouldn't eat out of it, but not because of germs but because I'd visualise the vomit!

DeathByResponsibilities · 09/08/2024 20:18

Our sick bowl is multi purpose (extremely excellent cleaning is applied) including making cakes in it... Mmmmm, licking the cake mixture 😋
Hehehe. Sorry op. I'm feeling mischievous. I'll go and have a g+t and leave you in peace.

shesacomplicatedlady · 09/08/2024 20:19

This is the sort of thing that puts me off eating in other peoples houses and eating homemade gifts.
