To think this is a bit crazy re doctors and lost tablets

I accidentally left my antidepressants at a hotel. I rang the hotel but they have destroyed them as they were not in a box with my name on.
Got in touch with my doctors and the reception said it should not be an issue as it happens a lot.

just got a text from my doctor wanting the name and address of the hotel so they can verify- ok no problem
They also want me to file a police report!!!!

i rang the doctors and said no crime has been committed I simply left my tablets at the hotel by accident but they said they need an police report and crime number before issuing another prescription!!!! Would the police even give a crime number for this.

also my friend a few months ago left tramadol a controlled drug behind on holiday and her doctors issued a new prescription no problem at all. They did not contact the hotel or anything.

just for information this is the first time this has happened so there is no pattern of me doing it before

My dog has tramadol and it’s very common for humans to be given it in the uk

Where did OP say they’re away at the moment?

Where did OP say they’re away at the moment?

Someone is assuming hotel = holiday

OP I’m tempted to say in future take the box with you when away from home. Although personally that would drive me mad as I have to put my tablets in a box with daily compartments or I forget if I’ve taken them.

Tramadol is a controlled drug given that it is opioid. Citalopram isn’t.

Are you confusing it with tylenol? Think thats American OTC? I was prescribed tramadol here after an operation…

Citalopram is not a controlled drug. Wonder why they’re being so jobsworthy about it.

Why would she be American? My DD is prescribed tramadol to take PRN for her back

About 4 times over 2-3 years, I have accidently left my inhaler in my work fleece pocket when I put in the wash. As its a powder inhaler (Easyhaler), the powder washes out and therefore becomes useless. If its in the traditional type, it doesn't wash out the contents, just the label comes off.

Never had an issue on replacing it. Though I am on a FB group of asthmatics and some people's GPs are funny with reissuing inhalers. Plus have to remember to take it with me when I go out somewhere. Some people have 2 or 3 on the go at once. One in their bedroom, one in their handbag and a spare, just in case gets lost etc.

Deserthog · 09/08/2024 17:15

I understand they are trying to ensure they don’t dispense medication to you in a way that might be a risk to you - but really if you’ve lost them you’ve lost them.

I actually did have mine stolen (along with quite a few other things) so in this situation did have a crime number but surely the police don’t issue crime numbers for (no offence intended I loose shit all the time) effectively carelessness ?

Glad it’s sorted, OP. Those brain zaps when you miss a dose/doses are not pleasant at all!

The only time I’ve heard of a police report for missing medication was when a homeless patient of mine had their Pregabalin stolen from their rucksack. I can completely understand the need for a police report for a stolen controlled drug but it’s slightly overkill for some forgotten SSRIs!

Deadbeatex · 09/08/2024 17:56

I see from your updates that it's been sorted but wanted to chip in and say I also think that's bizarre overreacting from the GP. I'm on several controlled drugs and have had a reissue 2 times before (over the space of several years and both genuine need) I'm surprised they did this with a low dose citralopram and I'd possibly query it (only for info) with the pharmacist and see if there is actually a good reason for it.

Also just in case you are not aware and ever find yourself in a similar situation, the pharmacy you normally use can "lend" you a few tablets without a script (not for controlled drugs but for Citralopram they should do) I know you needed 18 in this instance but if they gave you 5/7 days worth it would buy you time to sort out a proper script with your GP.

As for your concern about possibly getting s staff member at the hotel in trouble, I don't think you would've done as they followed the correct procedure for unlabelled medication. Thankfully you haven't needed to test that theory though!

I'm glad it's been resolved and I hope you enjoy your upcoming holiday x

Bellatrixpure · 09/08/2024 17:57

So weird, glad you are sorted though. Enjoy your time in the lakes

Normallynumb · 09/08/2024 18:02

I think that is OTT I recently lost my Anti depressants( Duloxetine) during my flat renovations and was immediately issued another prescription
Could they possibly think you are " stockpiling" them
I'm sorry if that is insensitive
Otherwise just report on 101 and you'll get a crime number.

WorriedMama12 · 09/08/2024 18:02

There will be a reason for it. Perhaps they've had issues in the last with patients 'losing' medication. Who knows. Call the police, if they give you a crime ref number, great, give it to the GP and job done. If they won't, call the GP and see what else can be done.

Just seen your update - glad it's sorted.

Normallynumb · 09/08/2024 18:04

Just seen your update

UncharteredWaters · 09/08/2024 18:17

We do this but usually for repeat offenders or where is is ‘the cat ate my meds’ Or I left it on the bus.
the police are used to issuing the crime number.

AudiobookListener · 09/08/2024 18:19

Something to do with the GPs working to rule maybe.
