To be a little freaked out?

Wasn't sure where to post this so sorry, here I am!

We'd been out for tea tonight so back and in bed a little later. My DS (3) wanted me to lie next to him while he went to sleep so I did. I thought I heard him say something along the lines of "little boy not yet, mummy and daddy are here/awake". I asked him what he'd just said and he giggled. I asked him who he was talking to/if he said "little boy" and he said yes. I stupidly asked where the little boy was and he said sleeping on the floor. I again stupidly asked if he was there now and he said yes. DS didn't seem remotely bothered, but I've not told DH for tonight as he'll freak out.

AIBU to be slightly freaked out by this myself even though I know lots of children have imaginary friends when they are younger? I'm sure lots of others have stories like these!! Please tell me them as I'm a wee bit nosey/fascinated!

My DD started telling me about "the mother I had before" one day. When I pressed for more details about how there was a mother before me she wasn't sure but she was insistent that she had been in a different family with brothers. I get chills when I think about it....! But as my name suggests, I love a new woo thread on MN more than anything! 😅
There is a story that often gets mentioned on here (not about imaginary friends) about The Boy in the Nightclub and also the one with the dogs in the forest. I hope someone can find them; they are freaking awful! 💀

Oh that story about Savernake wood (? Sp) is awful and scary!

What was the other one about with the boy in the nightclub? Do you have a link to it?

medianewbie · 31/07/2024 23:36

I was surprised my post didn't get a comment. Then I realised I didn't includes Dd's age. She's 17 now & it's only calmed down over the last year (thank puff!).

My Dd often used to scare the living daylights out of me. I'd be sitting watching TV / reading a book & she'd look up/ across & say: 'they're sitting right next to you Mum'. Or, if we passed on the stairs she'd wait for 'them' to go by too. Her older brother had a quiet word in the end I think. Or maybe they went away / she realised I was scared. It went on, in phases, for years. OP, at your Ds' age, its probably an imaginary friend. Fingers crossed he grows out of it.

I'd want to know WHO was sitting right next to me! Did she give any indication? I am just hoping it's never mentioned again!

Hqha yes! Severance! I will try and find it, and the boy in the nightclub one. Absolute classics 🤣

LoveWooThreads · 01/08/2024 09:44

This is a thread about the Savernake Forest Post 😃 it references a different thread which has the original post. I will try and find boy in the nightclub next x

Severance?! I meant Savernake! Tis a bit spooky in itself that it auto-corrected me and I didn't notice 💀

I used to walk past my DD2’s bedroom when she was about 5 yrs old and I would hear her chatting away, giving someone a piece of her mind. I asked her who she was talking to and she said “”XXX” (my dad who had passed away a few months earlier.) I didn’t know how to respond to that, so just said “Oh….Okay…” She said, “It’s okay Mum, he has to be nice to me now, because I’m the only one who can see him.” (He had been a right prick IRL and had had very limited contact with my kids).

IneedAbiggerWindchime · 01/08/2024 09:51

Maybe you have a little boy coming to you soon? Another son?

quietdays · 01/08/2024 10:04

My dd used to do this. Once she ran to a corner, looked up to the ceiling and said No, xx (neighbour) lives over there!! and pointed to our neighbour’s house. I never told the neighbour.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 01/08/2024 10:17

Having an imaginary friend is normal I think.

My dd was at her hobby exams (kids, various classes and ages) a couple of weeks ago when a younger girl came up to her and told her about her imaginary friend who had long, straight black hair and wore a white dress. Dd said she nodded along nicely and didn't think any more of it.

Until...

The little girl sat on her own and started rolling a ball to her imaginary friend and my dd glanced over to see the ball ROLLING BACK ON ITS OWN!

Dd said her heart literally stopped!

Should I put the spoiler or leave it there? Spoiler - to her relief, dd realised the little girl was rolling the ball so it bounced back to her off the wall. No ghosts! Which was a shame, if it did deep cleans and would run the hoover round now and again it would be more than welcome to attach itself to a new human and haunt our house.

Oh bless her , I wonder if he told her that himself when she could see him.

I'm intrigued as to what your huge and not quite so huge coincidences were @Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate

When my DS was young, he often said, 'In my other life .......' and things like that. Very matter of fact!

My eyes went wide then when you said it rolled back! You'd have had me fully convinced if ypu hadn't given the spoiler!

@Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate She’s about to turn 18 and doesn’t really remember him alive or having any particular feelings about him or this time in her life. (Other than wanting to keep a pony in her bedroom until I told her she’d have to clean up after it…) She’s always had her head screwed on, though, and this coincided with several vivid dreams of frustrating conversations with Dad so you never know.

Probably oversold it to other people but I definitely think it's a huge coincidence. When we bought our house we pulled up the carpets and there was a newspaper under the floor, dated with the exact date I was born.. day, month, and year! Then we were left an ariel view photograph also with the year I was born!

I had 2 imaginary friends, Judy and Jublee ( that will give my age away!)
Judy behaved well and Jublee didn't!
My parents just played along with it. I loved role play and had a vivid imagination. When we went holiday Judy always came in the car but Jublee had to go on the bus as there wasn't room! Eventually they just faded away.
My children never had these friends but my granddaughter who's nearly 4 is very like me with her imagination and love of role play. We have long chats about what her babies (dolls) get upto when she's not with them.

How creepy op! Years ago I heard my son who was maybe four years old chatting away to nobody in the bathroom.. When I pointed out to him that he was talking to himself he said That's so mean mummy, Rebeca is here!! She got lost and now they won't let her back in!! She lives here but she's very sad!
I'd also hear him in his room at night telling her to be quiet because it's bedtime and he'd play with her in the morning.
He's 23 now and he doesn't remember any of this.
The weirdest part is (this sounds made up but I promise it isn't)
When I was 13 I babysat two little girls at my home, they were top and tailing in my bedroom and I was downstairs, I heard them start screaming/crying and rushed upstairs to see what was wrong, they both looked terrified and were pointing at the corner of the room, when I asked what was wrong they both said (they were around 5/6) There's a scary girl called Rebecca in here and she is scaring us!!
This was over twenty years before my son said the same name.

Ooh! Wow, that's interesting! I'd say it's fate that you're supposed to be there but I like to believe in that kind of thing
