I haven’t, just intrigued when everyone else normally does it

I wait to see what my DH’s shifts are and have just looked. He’s off Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, yay! This means nice food, nobody will be travelling anywhere. Fab. Dogs, woodburner, tin of Celebrations (for the DH, I don’t eat chocolate).

tillyandmilly · 29/07/2024 22:20

yes we have booked our break for 9 nights up in Derbyshire over Christmas self catering - quite a few of us go and it gets booked up quickly!

Superworm24 · 29/07/2024 22:22

I'm normally a miserable cow and we travel over Christmas. But this will be our first year with our baby that took us 8 years to conceive. So I've been looking at what we want our holidays to look like going forward. I didn't have the best childhood and I'm actually excited to get to make it a magical time of year for our little one.

FourChimneys · 29/07/2024 22:36

We have booked to go away with friends. None of us are interested in the whole retail carnival it has become and none of us are religious. We will barely acknowledge it, and have plenty of activities planned to keep us busy.

So, no Christmas plans made, but firm plans for 22 - 29 December iyswim.

Rainbow1901 · 29/07/2024 22:42

Booked onto a Panto with big family group, Fairytale in New York show with DH and Xmas Markets too because we are planning on an overnight stay, we did a steam train thing last year with GCs, DD, her DH and another set of GPs which was a lovely day out so planning on that again.Traditionally we also take GCs to see the Santa at a Garden Centre and have lunch or tea out.
Christmas itself is being discussed, DH's ex-pat son is planning on staying with us so he can see his kids. It's also the turn of my DS plus his DH and DD to join us (which should have happened last year but didn't!) So lots of talking going on there but no hard plans yet!!
And yes it is on the wrong board - but I do like Xmas!

EvenLess · 29/07/2024 22:54

Not sure about the day itself. Anything will be better than last Christmas - had an ungrateful houseguest staying with our friend who was living with us and she was in a rotten mood too which spoiled the morning, it was my first Christmas without my DDad and even though he wasn't bothered about Christmas it hurt tremendously and for reasons too long to explain we ended going to in-laws rather than see DM. Just before we got out of the car, 3 year old DD asked why we weren't seeing my Dad and why he couldn't come back 😣In-laws were tetchy and annoyed at each other and by the end of the day I couldn't hide my feelings and basically said please let me go home DH!

So any Christmas will be better than that one. I will not spend this Christmas at the in-laws. If DH is that desperate to go, he can go himself. As for events, we'll do a lights walk, Santa visit and book a panto or a show for the week after Christmas.

Weirdly, I just booked Nye plans today.

You know you always say "hey, let's book a big house and get together at NY" well, we are!

ToffeeSquirrels · 29/07/2024 23:12

I put my sprouts on to boil a week ago, can’t bear them
to be under cooked.

I do miss Sarah Kennedy. She always had hers I about now.

DTisawazzock · 29/07/2024 23:47

For flip sake. It's mid summer. I don't know what I'm doing next week.

Crazycatlady79 · 30/07/2024 01:09

Funnily enough, today I broached the subject of Christmas with my ex and whether or not he would like/would be having our twins this Christmas.
His "probably" response indicates I probably need to ask again in December, as God forbid I plan in advance. 😅🤦🏼‍♀️

Flatandhappy · 30/07/2024 02:04

Christmas got planned for me a while back, it wasn’t my turn to host which I was quite happy about but the people who I thought would host (and would want to) announced they are spending Christmas overseas so I guess I’m it!

Not sure why people are so dismissive of early planning, I bought tickets for DD and I to see The Nutcracker ballet at the Opera House in December within a few days of them going on sale in January, they were sold out by the end of the week so just as well I did. From what I read here Pantos and special trips to see Santa in the UK are the same, you snooze you lose.

coxesorangepippin · 30/07/2024 02:06

I have no idea but know I cannot spend another one at bils

I am almost willing to pay an extortionate of money to go abroad, just to have an excuse

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 30/07/2024 03:54

Single with no commitments so always go away with a close friend whose situation is the same. Going to a lovely hotel close to a fabulous beach. We have a completely decadent few days and don’t have to lift a finger. It’s perfect.

MapleTreeValley · 30/07/2024 03:56

No. We usually make a plan for Xmas day in around Sept/Oct.

BruFord · 30/07/2024 04:11

All I know is that I’m not traveling to any family members this year, none, nada. It’s always us doing the traveling and I won’t, won’t, won’t this time. I hope that I can stick to this resolution. 😂

I do want to see a Christmas show though and I’ll need to book tickets fairly soon as it’ll sell out.

Powderblue1 · 30/07/2024 04:27

We've started having Xmas day just us by the coast and we love it. Will see wider family on Boxing Day instead and saves us spending alot of Xmas day travelling.

Haven't booked our Panto tickets yet but I know which one we're going to so planning to book on pay day. Will also be doing to NT light trail again this year. Not booked a Santa visit yet as the one we like to do isn't for sale yet.

We've booked a Lapland holiday to say thank you to Santa but going in the new year.

FuckMeUpFlorida · 30/07/2024 04:36

Yes! I live abroad and there are a limited number of flights back to the UK, so if you don't plan ahead it can become quite expensive/no availability the closer it gets.

Aug12 · 30/07/2024 04:38

We will be settled into our new home so I’m really looking forward to Christmas this year, feeling very festive already as I’m packing up boxes ready for the move lol we will probably just stay home and visit family on Boxing Day, no activities for the kiddos booked yet as nothing local has been released yet, we normally book the Santa train and breakfast with Santa so will look for similar in our new area.

LesFlamandes · 30/07/2024 04:55

Yup. Booked a flight to Perth, via Kuala Lumpar. Going with DH and our teens to see my best friend and her family. Can’t wait!

We fly on 23rd Dec. So there’ll be a couple of early Christmas celebrations with family, panto, performances, London trips, church and choir events before then.

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 30/07/2024 04:58

God no, hate Christmas

GapsGalore · 30/07/2024 05:32

Only because SIL and BIL are renovating and all the family get-togethers have been at ours this year so they are insisting we go to theirs in December. I imagine they'll have SIL's family on the actual day, as they always go to her family then, and us on Boxing Day or close to. Suits me fine, I refuse to get drawn into "whose" Christmas is it is and this way there's no pressure from the IL's. MIL had quite a religious upbringing so Easter Sunday is the non-negotiable family day.
