I haven’t, just intrigued when everyone else normally does it

CaptainCabinets · 29/07/2024 21:49

My first baby is due on the 19th so hoping for eviction prior to Christmas. Will also be the first Christmas without my wonderful Dad after losing him in January, so expecting it to be a very bittersweet one.

OrwellianTimes · 29/07/2024 21:50

Yes. Give gifts, eat food. At my house. No travelling anywhere.

RLouiseH · 29/07/2024 21:50

Starting to think about it :)

There are usually three December weekends before Christmas itself, and my various friendship groups and I like to do a lot of things… festive pub crawl, Christmas Day with Friends (aka wear festive jumpers and all bring a board of festive food and do quizzes etc!), girls dinner out ft secret Santa gifts, work Christmas do, carolling, light trails etc etc etc… so need to start planning early to make sure everything can fit in and there are no clashes with events!

For all the people saying “get a life” that’s exactly what we are doing, by planning nice events in advance, to look forward to. Those who plan early can do, those who don’t wish to, don’t need to, and no one needs to be mean to anyone else about their choices :)

CharlotteStreetW1 · 29/07/2024 21:50

Actually yes. We've been invited by friends which will be lovely as she's an amazing cook and they're lots of fun.

Also booked Wisley Glow with same friends.

Halfheadhighlights · 29/07/2024 21:51

I absolutely haven’t.

thursdaymurderclub · 29/07/2024 21:53

Yes.. i am working Christmas Day and Boxing Day and we cannot just apply for leave.

So our christmas day this year will be Christmas Eve. This will be the first 'Christmas' in 11 years where DH's children will spend the day with us, and i am very excited for it.

And before anyone jumps on me for not having DH's children for christmas for 11 years, I work for the emergency services, i have worked the last 6 christmas's and his sons GF prefers to do christmas with her parents on Christmas day.

Go tigers
That sounds sad. I hope you are OK.

Absolutely fine - just hate Christmas and the ridiculous build up. The whole ‘family time’ concept makes me itch.

Would happily sleep through the commercial, pressured, shite!

gardenmusic · 29/07/2024 21:56

ok.

Juliet194 · 29/07/2024 21:56

I didn't know there was a Christmas board.

I'm usually so last minute with everything, but am trying to change as find it stressful! I have gotten a bit better over the last few years to be fair. I follow the organised mum for cleaning stuff and she also has a 12 week Christmas countdown which is useful.

I'm pregnant atm, so all being well this might be our last child free Christmas. I'm looking at booking a few adult activities, as next year might be very different! I don't have particulary happy childhood memories of Christmas, and would like December to be a happy and memorable month in the future 🤞, which will mean being a bit more organised I guess. I know that some of my friends with kids have already booked panto tickets and santa visits etc, stuff seems to get booked up!

Judellie · 29/07/2024 21:57

No, but we lost my lovely mum in February so there are no grandparents any more.
My mum adored Christmas, she always made her conservatory magical. We knew last Christmas would be her last, but I've started crying writing this, off to look at something else.

DevilsKitchen · 29/07/2024 21:57

I must admit I am starting to feel the need to sort Christmas! I have a big and close family and everyone wants to see everyone so it gets a bit complicated. Spoke to my SIL yesterday and apparently she, my brother and niblings, as well as my other brother and his gf will all stay a few days at my parents over Xmas until at least the 27th (SIL is on a 3 yearly rotation and my brother’s gf doesn’t get on with her family).

We spent last year with my side so expecting to spend it with DH’s family this year but need to check what BIL and his gf want to do as would like to all be together.

Thankfully my parents have a big house, live locally, and love to host us so we can just invite ourselves to join on whatever day suits us best.

Mamabear999 · 29/07/2024 21:59

Oh god yes I have!! After 20 years of hosting Christmas my new sister in law said last Dec she would do it🎉🎉🎉
I am holding her to it. Can’t wait 🎅🦃🎄

no.

MonsteraMama · 29/07/2024 22:02

Planning starts on boxing day 🙃 I have six siblings, mam has five, dad has three. Most have partners, kids, dogs. If we're all getting together, planning takes all fecking year.

NatWestPigFamily · 29/07/2024 22:02

we are normally last minute people but we have already confirmed my step son and family are coming to us and also my siblings and family. We haven’t booked any trips yet though.

Despair1 · 29/07/2024 22:03

Ahhhhh, that wonderful time of the year when the stars are shining and all playing happy families??????? In reality, for many, it reinforces the heartache and loneliness in peoples' lives. The huge building up and anticipation of this supposedly magical time only serves additional pain and heartache to many.

Hedjwitch · 29/07/2024 22:03

Always have Christmas with my mum for part of the day. Dcs carried this on into their adulthood. She died in April and so have no idea what to do this Christmas. Probably not bother much. Its not the same.

Peakypolly · 29/07/2024 22:05

Booked 2 Christmas theatre things, got one of the last three slots for Father Christmas in our local play village and booked the nicest local restaurant for Boxing Day brunch.
Two grandparents are very elderly and struggling with health issues so things are actually a bit unknown. I find making some definite plans helps my mind cope with the underlying uncertainty.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 29/07/2024 22:07

Pretty much, but I'm in the NHS and already know which of the public holidays I'm working.

I've not discussed with anyone other than DH though, but we know what we don't want to do rather than what we are doing iyswim.

Catza · 29/07/2024 22:11

Rainbowsponge · 29/07/2024 21:36

The Christmas board seems for real keen beans, I wanted to know whether ‘non-eggnog-latte’ people had thought about it yet if that makes sense

Of course not as that would be crazy and those who think it isn’t should go to the Christmas board…

ilovesooty · 29/07/2024 22:15

GoTigers · 29/07/2024 21:43

Other than wishing I could go to bed on the 1st Dec and wake up on the 1st Jan, no.

My feelings exactly.

travelmadmum23 · 29/07/2024 22:16

Going to Dubai on Xmas day 😊 Cant be bothered anymore with any dramas over cmas, who is seeing who, the carnage of everybody buying 4 weeks worth of shopping for 1 day, the endless social media posts of who has bought their kids the most, the elderly family members being bitter that xmas doesn't revolve around them and the obligatory kings speech....

No thank you. I'll have myself a week in the sun

Sidebeforeself · 29/07/2024 22:16

I never understand why people get arsey about posters posting on the “wrong” boards.. don’t read it if you don’t want to!

yes we have booked accommodation for family and I can’t wait

CrushingOnRubies · 29/07/2024 22:16

Nope. Dp doesn't know what leave he's getting if any yet. So no point planning. Not going over to the in laws without him for instance

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 29/07/2024 22:17

It's July. 😐
