Just that really. In my case for a 7 year old? (Or thereabouts)

how much on average would you spend for school shoes and then also trainers? I have no idea but want to send money for my niece for shoes and trainers for school and don’t know what is realistic amount.

I usually spend about £50 on each, so £100 total. I probably could buy cheaper, but CBA. We go to Clarks, get measured and buy shoes/trainers there and then.

TheKeatingFive · 27/07/2024 20:52

At that age, about 60 quid

Tiredforfive45 · 27/07/2024 20:52

Shoes around £50 and trainers around £30.

Lovely thing to do for your niece (and the adults who would have to buy them otherwise!)

Airbrb · 27/07/2024 20:53

A realistic amount is £50 in Clarks.

A1ia · 27/07/2024 20:56

We tend to spend between £15 and £25 a pair for school. Because of football and lots of outdoor play, then tend to be quite scuffed even when I have splashed out for Clarks. So, now I spend a little less (usually getting them from TU or George) and look out for sales/discounts/promotions because he has new ones every term anyway.

Strugglebus86 · 27/07/2024 20:56

£30 on shoes
£40 on trainers

MumChp · 27/07/2024 20:58

I bought from Next and no name trainers. Around £60 for both.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 27/07/2024 21:00

About £50-£70 for school shoes out of Clark's.

£15 supermarket trainers but probably buy a few pairs through the year.

Milkandtwosugarsplease · 27/07/2024 21:01

Around £30 for school shoes and £50 for trainers.

Crazycatlady79 · 27/07/2024 21:02

Around £60 for shoes and £30-60 for trainers.

FirstNameSecondName · 27/07/2024 21:03

We get shoes for about 30 ish from either Next or M&S and trainers about the same amount from sports shops.

macaroniandcheeze · 27/07/2024 21:04

Clarks are around £45/50. Trainers probably a bit less, depending on brand/unbranded. You could look on some websites to get an idea - Clarks, next, M&S, sports direct etc.

Gladespade · 27/07/2024 21:08

For Clarks you need about £50, but if the trainers are just for the PE kit then I have found George trainers for about £15, are totally fine - if for day to day wear, maybe up to £40. I reckon I would probably give them £75/£80 on balance. This is incredibly thoughtful, this time of year can get very expensive, particularly if you have more than one child.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 27/07/2024 21:08

Just done the shoe shop.
DS: £15.99 in TK Max (lucky bargain)
DD: £56.00 in Clarks.
She has narrow feet and she's a half size so I felt it was necessary.

GreatScruff · 27/07/2024 21:09

School shoes. £50ish

I always get Nike Revolution trainers for school PE because they are light to carry and inoffensive. They are £50 but you can pretty much always get them for £30 if you look.

These are the junior ones

Molone · 27/07/2024 21:10

Is expect to spend about £30-£35 on a pair of school shoes. Trainers would be from Sports Direct so probably another £30 or so.

PNDshame · 27/07/2024 21:13

Usually one pair of school shoes per school year around £40, and one pair of trainers per term (just £15 supermarket cheapies) but he does wear those twice a week and on the weekends so they get lots of use

MigGirl · 27/07/2024 21:16

I think some off you are over spending on trainers, especially if they are just for PE kit at school when they only wear then a couple of times a week and will grow out of them quite quickly. I can even get DS who in high school a pair for £25 from sports direct for school. I do spend more on ones he wears at home, but school ones just stay in his PE kit and don't get much wear.
School shoes however are on their feet all day, but smaller feet can be a bit cheaper but DS are around £60. Primary are more like £40-£50.

Sprogonthetyne · 27/07/2024 21:17

About £25-30 on shoes and £15 on trainer's. Usually both from sainsbury, toe-zone for the shoes and tu for trainer's. If I time it right I get them on a 25% off week, then it's more like £20 & £10. My kids are 7&5, and will probably have outgrown them by Christmas, so long lasting isn't the priority.

GreatScruff · 27/07/2024 21:19

I totally misread this as for a year seven.
Blush

snowballsintheoven · 27/07/2024 21:22

£80 on DM Kamrons - never failed us

snowballsintheoven · 27/07/2024 21:23

£30 Sports Direct for trainers

He's 9.. Under Armour or whatever

ThisNoisyTealLurker · 27/07/2024 21:24

I used to go to Clarks, get them measured and then pay a fortune to get them kitted out. The shoes often fell apart in no time so I went to shoe zone, got my son a pair for £9.99 and they lasted longer than any of the others and were apparently very comfy! (no I don't work for shoe zone)

sleekcat · 27/07/2024 21:26

I think mine had shoes from Clark's at that age, probably close to £40, but they are nowhere near that age now! At some point ended up in black trainers which were Nike or Adidas but I think that was later on.
