Covid - anyone unwell now?

I currently have Covid and have been in bed for days feeling ghastly.

Anyone else got it atm or anyone recently recovered? I am questioning how long I will feel so rotten for.

@HappyWorkingMummy I've been badly fatigued for most of the time, and while I was also dizzy, had no appetite (and lost half a stone that I can't afford to lose in those first 10 days), couldn't concentrate, was short of breath, had a blinding headache, my legs gave up the ghost, was nauseous etc as well, it was the fatigue that kept me away from work.

Most symptoms started to ease quite suddenly a week or so ago, thus the start of the phased return. I was only ever spoken to by a GP once at the start, who seemed sympathetic but not at all concerned and signed me off for 2 weeks. After that I just kept applying for further sick notes and getting another 2 weeks at a time. I've seen another GP recently who referred me for blood tests and a chest x-ray but again seemed generally unconcerned. Can't say I blame them at this point though. I can be referred to a long covid clinic at 12 weeks post positive (self) test, and think I might need it. I'm very lucky to have a very supportive boss, despite my absence leaving them all in a pickle, and full sick pay, as the stress otherwise might have finished me!

But I know I've just been very unlucky, as I've not read any other especially recent stories of this kind of reaction to the new variant, despite searching high and low. I'm glad to be alone in this!

I hope you feel better soon x

My husband became ill with covid on 15 July and has finally tested negative today. In almost 50 years, I can't ever remember him being ill enough to stay in bed, but Covid flattened him for six days, and he still felt quite rough until yesterday. It was awful timing because I had back surgery on the 15th and my daughter had to take time off work to look after both of us 😆

spikeandbuffy · 27/07/2024 00:24

Think there is something else going round too, my dad is coughing so so badly. Doctor sent him for a chest x ray and he's going for a CT scan tomorrow
He sounds like he's hacking up a lung but three Covid tests all negative
My colleague is off with the same and also negative for Covid

What symptoms has everyone for? I feel wiped out and awful but doesn't feel like covid classic so not sure if I have another illness simultaneously 😩 (I feel really nauseous with stomach and back pain as well)

Mine started out as a mild sore throat whilst on holiday, but by the evening it was gone. Think that was the Tuesday. Got home on the Friday and by the Saturday afternoon my throat just felt really scratchy. Like I'd gotten a piece of hair stuck in it. Also felt a bit sniffly so just took hot lemon and made hot lemon and honey drinks. By the Sunday I felt crap. Cooked a small jacket potato and managed about a quarter of it. I barely had any appetite although at that point I could still taste and smell perfectly fine so still didn't think it was covid. Sinuses were painful but not fully blocked. My nose alternated from being partially binged up to dripping like a tap and aside from the short walk to the bathroom I spent 5 days in bed completely exhausted. I did take the Wednesday off work although by the afternoon I was feeling semi better. It wasn't until the Wednesday though my sense of smell and taste disappeared completely. It was my other Half who commented on my hair smelling nice and I could t smell the shampoo I'd used. Got a LFT didn't come up straight away but the line came up within 10 mins. The other symptoms for me were really short of breathe and a blocked burning sensation in my right ear. So much different to the first time round

Pograze · 27/07/2024 00:50

I've recently had it. The only bad symptom I had was a headache with fever. It was awful. All over my head to start, and now it's behind my right eye. It only hurts when I look left now, but for 2.5 days, it was migraine like. The fever dreams were the only plus side. I'm grumpy because everything tastes like shit now.

Interesting.

Are you able to report back when you hear results?

@HappyWorkingMummy yep I can - antibiotics don't seem to have helped

Zanatdy · 27/07/2024 08:45

There’s a lot about. One of my staff was rushed to hospital yesterday with complications from covid. She’s only in her 20’s, and has been unwell for 2wks but gone worse.

Condolences you've been going through this. Good you were supported.

I also can't afford to lose any more weight. I'm naturally small (no humble brag; I wish I were curvaceous but it's not meant to be) and just don't have any more weight to lose. I can't stomach food and only sips of drink.

Is everyone still testing for covid?

Everyone? No.
Some people? Yes.

Hope that helps.

jennylamb1 · 27/07/2024 08:54

It went through our household a few weeks ago, first few days rough, but recovery a lot quicker than previous times.
We tested because we wanted to know and partner was positive and then myself. We didn't test son, however he was symptomatic.
Unfortunately, it was just before we went on holiday and our insurance didn't allow us to delay etc so we went. The family we were going to see in Greece also had it (independently of us), so we just got on behaving normally.
It felt weird not isolating, but there are no restrictions now and many don't even test, so aside from washing our hands more, giving people more distance and sitting away from clearly elderly people we carried on as normal.

Greentrilby · 27/07/2024 09:02

My friend is an nhs administrator. She told me yesterday she’d been asked to order covid supplies and from Monday they go back to wearing masks.

Greerton · 27/07/2024 09:08

Had it last year for second time. Was just as bad as the first. I sounded coarse/phlegmy for at least a month.

Are people finding that the symptoms lessen with each subsequent infection?

Dontcallmescarface · 27/07/2024 09:24

It's taken 4 years but I'm now suffering my first dose of covid. I'm not too bad...worse than a heavy cold but better than 'flu. My only real issue with it has been the dreams I've been having, they've been quite scary.

ETA I tested as work pays 100% pay from day 1 if covid and 80% from day 3 if not.

lolaran · 27/07/2024 10:07

DH & I just had it and we both felt very poorly for two weeks, absolutely awful. Positive for 14 days too. We quarantined for the whole time, wouldn't wish this on anyone. We're negative now but started with the most horrendous dry cough that sounds like we're going to throw up. Awful.

I've just come out the other side of what started as an end of term cold but completely wiped me out! I did wonder if it was COVID especially as I was so tired, but end of term so hard to tell. Sounds like it probably was though.

Your dad may have had Covid, I'm like this now two weeks after having Covid. I'm negative now but the cough is terrible

@AmiablePedant@spikeandbuffy

This article mentions a resurgence in whooping cough at the moment, could that be it?

What dreams?

Well last night's involved my mother (who died of covid in 2020) walking back through the curtains of the crem yelling "I'm not dead, I'm not dead don't let me burn".
