Covid - anyone unwell now?

HappyWorkingMummy · 26/07/2024 21:40

I currently have Covid and have been in bed for days feeling ghastly.

Anyone else got it atm or anyone recently recovered? I am questioning how long I will feel so rotten for.

My sister has it. She 100% got it on the flight home from her family holiday.

JMSA · 26/07/2024 23:15

And she's feeling really unwell.

Are people getting time off work with Covid?

I'm a carer on a zero hours contract. I don't get paid if I'm off, and we've been told we need to come to work.

Do you all get paid as normal if you're off sick?

This is negligent on the company's part. You could take out old people with this.

Is everyone still testing for covid?

StrongasSixpence · 26/07/2024 23:17

Felt a bit off and tired Saturday after coming back from sport club. Cold symptoms and general crap Sunday/Monday (tested positive on Monday) with reduced appetite and slightly upset stomach. Felt a little better on Tues but still snotty. Mosty back to normal and did my usual high intensity exercise Weds onwards.

Worked from home and stayed out of public all week but didn't take any sick days.

AmiablePedant · 26/07/2024 23:17

I have been lucky (especially given that I'm in my 60's); a day or so of tickly throat, aches, general malaise, then the equivalent of a moderately bad very snotty headachey cold for five days; lost sense of smell but it came back after four days. Tired for another three or four days after all this; OK now. Never had to retire to bed completely.

Topofthemountain · 26/07/2024 23:17

I was rotten leading up to it, sore throat, cough, runny nose, headache. I was ill for a while before testing positive. (It was in the office, I felt rotten, hence the testing)

Positive last Thursday, wiped out Friday - Sunday, felt ok by Tuesday/ Wednesday. I got it from work, my manager said that when he had it a couple of years ago it was a drawn out affair, but this time it was hard hitting but recovery was quick.

What symptoms has everyone for? I feel wiped out and awful but doesn't feel like covid classic so not sure if I have another illness simultaneously 😩 (I feel really nauseous with stomach and back pain as well)

Fever with hot sweats then chills, sore throat (worst I've known), headache on the front and temples, jaw ache, legs stiff and sore, eyes hurting, cough and sniffles (not too bad all things considered), and an odd one is pain on my vulva.

I tested positive on Tuesday. Started like a heavy cold. Then added temp, headache, sore throat and body aches. Then started feeling weak, nauseous and got stomach cramps. Sore gums too. Then got a cough. Feels like a flu. That constant horrible weak, faint feeling. I'm hoping it will recede over the weekend. I've had Covid a few times already and this was by far the worst. Wouldn't want to pass it on to anyone. And I've had all the vaccines and boosters.

Better than on the flight there.

I’m pretty sure it has just gone through our house. We did treat… see no evil.
the headaches for me and a serious amount of phlegm are the worst parts.

rockstarshoes · 26/07/2024 23:23

People at work dropping like flies & all pretty poorly with it!

We're lucky enough to be able to WFH but most are too ill to do that!

Topofthemountain · 26/07/2024 23:24

My headache was no worse than my standard headaches (so for others they may have had the worst headache ever iygwim) it just wouldn't shift.

My work is crazy around sick leave, as soon as you test positive you are barred from the office, until then, and when I was feeling the worst, you are expected to be in. Sick leave is almost a no-no. It is bonkers. COVID? - Stay away. Ebola? - Into the office you come.

PleaseNoDontBeSickAgain · 26/07/2024 23:25

I was stuck in bed for 10 days, and am only just able to begin a phased return to work now, 2 months later. Like pp said, it's the worst illness I've ever had too. Truly awful.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 26/07/2024 23:29

We don't test but I think my DS had it last week and was unwell for 5 days.

Suspect DH has come form with it today.

Minniliscious · 26/07/2024 23:35

Tested positive last Wednesday after days of feeling rotten! I work from home but couldn’t physically stay awake on Weds or Thursdays so took sick days and stayed in bed. Feel really weak, sweaty and achy still with headaches that come and go.

Tinks15 · 26/07/2024 22:36

What’s everyone’s symptoms with Covid at the minute? I’ve had a terrible sore throat today.

Hope all those that have it feel better soon.

Edited

I've had something strange I suspect might be Covid. Sore throat, sore nose, sore/blocked ear and easily exhausted

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 26/07/2024 23:40

Can't say for sure of it was Covid as what is the point in testing?
But felt absolutely wiped out and awful cough which still hasn't gone a fortnight on.

Ghastly news.

Condolences to you.

What were your symptoms to be off sick so long? How did the medical professional test to write you out of work for such a period? Was your boss ok with that?

I caught it at the start of July. I only knew as i had been caring for father who was admitted to hospital and he tested as positive. Had a sore throat for a few days, a cough and could sleep much longer than usual. Several weeks later and i have to spend time coughing up lumps of phlegm, worse in morning but throughout the day also.

The hospital said they were getting increasing cases with alot of staff affected.

I do think this is shocking.

A couple of years back there were carers losing their jobs because they chose not to be vaccinated . Now you are being forced to work when unwell and risking making clients really ill.

Do you work in a care home or for an agency?

smooththecat · 26/07/2024 23:51

I had it recently. Didn’t take much time off but I realised that I haven’t really got anything meaningful done at work for about 2 weeks now, my brain is gone.

Bearpawk · 26/07/2024 23:52

I had it for a 8 days recently....Felt dreadful this time.
I've had friends and colleagues who felt awful for a day or 2 then fine.
No rhyme nor reason to it.

Blackalice · 26/07/2024 23:54

Tested positive Saturday when it suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks in the evening. Grim and just chilling on Sunday/Monday. Got dressed Tuesday but still weak and had awful awful throat and ear pain. Had no option but to drive Tuesday evening and pull an all nighter at my Mom's death bed. Tired but generally better Wednesday. Had to go out and about registering deaths and doing bereavement stuff (lost my Dad 3 weeks ago as well as Mom) the past couple of days and felt pretty much OK except very tired. Hoping that's it done now except the lingering tiredness I remember so well from previously. Hoping to get back to the gym on Sunday so we will see!

goneveryquiet · 26/07/2024 23:57

A week off work all the symptoms including loss of taste and smell. Temperature and the pain in my back. 6 tests later and it's negative
