“I don’t respect your opinion”

Me and my partner were discussing that video in the airport with a police officer kicking someone in the head. I said it didn’t seem right, he said it’s justified. (He did used to be a police officer). Anyway we ended up having an argument and he said he has no respect for my opinion and doesn’t value it on something I have no experience in. He also said he’s fed up of my leftist liberal attitude. Lol. Not very nice or am I being sensitive?

Thank god he’s no longer a police officer if he thinks that kicking a man in the head and stamping on him while he is already on the ground and has been tasered is ok. It’s plainly excessive force.

Anyone who told me they didn’t respect my opinion and they were sick of my political views would be out of the door. He’s told you what he thinks of you, OP. Have the self respect to leave.

ToofHurty · 24/07/2024 18:50

I don’t think anyone needs to have experience of being a police officer to express an opinion on a police officer firstly kicking like a football, and secondly stamping on the head, of an unarmed man lying face down on the floor with his arms at his side.

Your partner sounds like a vile prick and I can imagine he fitted perfectly in the police.

VolvoFan · 24/07/2024 18:57

You can respect the right someone has to hold an opinion, but you don't have to respect the opinion itself.

MammaTo · 24/07/2024 18:59

I think if I was with someone who thought that video was acceptable then I’d be rethinking the relationship. Things like this and where you stand morally/politically on them is an indicator of whether your personalities mesh well or not.

RomanticOutlaws · 24/07/2024 19:01

The video is vile. There's no justification for stamping on someone's head when they're cuffed face down on the floor, having already been tasered. Your OP sounds like a twat.

Sisterdeloris · 24/07/2024 19:03

I'm not saying all coppers are the same but............

Krusatodon · 24/07/2024 19:06

I’m sorry OP. Have you been together long?

Knowledge of knowing not to kick the head in of someone lying injured on the floor? Exactly what kind of knowledge do you need other than being sane?

TrishM80 · 24/07/2024 19:09

Is there any police officer in the UK, current or former, who isn't a depraved and violent scumbag?

Tbh i agree with him! He's actually done the job so therefore has more knowledge of it to judge with! Also i could absolutely not listen to someone spouting liberal leftie crap all day long.

zzar45 · 24/07/2024 19:28

@lovelysunshine22 He's actually done the job so therefore has more knowledge of it to judge with!.

That’s only true if you think the police are infallible and shouldn’t ever be held to account by any outside bodies.

dizzydizzydizzy · 24/07/2024 19:28

What sweeping criticisms! Not nice at all!

Sounds like he was trying to put you down a. Peg a two.

FuckKnowsMate · 24/07/2024 19:39

I’d end the relationship on the spot after his comment condoning the actions of that police officer. Utterly disgusting behaviour and no context is justifiable for what he did.

betterangels · 24/07/2024 19:43

I couldn't be with a police officer though. Former or otherwise. He sounds awful.

GoogleWhacking · 24/07/2024 19:45

It was absolutely unjustified and the Police statement misses the point. That man was complying and had his head stomped on. I don't care if a police officer was injured in the earlier altercation. That was assault by the police officer, of an unarmed and compliant person, not self defence. If I'd done that to someone I'd be arrested. That police officer should be too!

You Oh sounds like a prick.

Krusatodon · 24/07/2024 19:47

It’s not liberal leftie nonsense to expect trained police officers to conduct themselves professionally and to deescalate stressful situations without extreme brutality. I hope that piece of shit loses his job and goes to prison.

This exactly @lovelysunshine22 .
So many police officers have been behaving badly. Every week there seems to be one in court for violence and/ or sexual offences. Many female and minority officers leave the force due to bullying. The Met and GMP seem to be the worst for bad behaviour.

lottiegarbanzo · 24/07/2024 20:55

Not respecting your opinion on one incident is one thing - and clearly wide open to interpretation in this case.

But he's told you that he doesn't respect your opinion as a general principle - the liberal left bit - so does not respect you. That's a problem.

HillBillieEilish · 24/07/2024 20:57

I've seen the video and there is no way it's justified. I read police officers are injured so will agree it's heated etc but there was no way that kick is ok in any world. It made me feel sick.

Now for the real issue, your opinion is 100% valid and to be respected. By anyone. Most of all the man you share your life with. Dans la poubelle!!! I hope to fuck your don't have kids with this bell end.

What has being a liberal got to do with the price of fish?

Do liberals’ brains work less than Conservatives?

What a ridiculous comment.

sprigatito · 24/07/2024 21:00

Ugh, he's a massive thundercunt. I couldn't breathe the same air as someone with such repugnant views. He will never, ever have any respect for you.

OCDmama · 24/07/2024 22:01

Tbh I wouldn't expect anything more from a police officer. They're scum through and through.

Out of close friends and family who've married/been in long term relationships with them they are always, always pieces of shit who frequently break the law themselves and treat women badly.

Candlelights1 · 24/07/2024 22:07

You are not compatible and he sounds awful.

Why are you wasting your time with him?

Because we have a young child together.

He is being unreasonable to believe that the behaviour shown in the video is appropriate.
