Our business has passed an important audit so we ordered dominos for lunch.
Enough dominos pizza to give everyone 1/2 a pizza each and sides and drinks.

Total cost was £450.

One of the senior managers just had to have a word with one of the other senior leadership team that putting 3 entire pizzas, sides and a drink in his car because 'he wanted to take it home for his family and would freeze the leftovers' isn't appropriate when the admin staff haven't even had chance to get any pizza yet.

Our work generally have No issues with people taking leftovers but not when other people haven't even had lunch yet!!

Anyone else work with cheeky bastards?

I'd have to call that out - that just isn't fair.
How about a cheeky "I will when you will" kind of response to this 'manager' who is basically getting you to do their homework for them??
Do you have anyone you could go to about how your work is being passed off as theirs? Can you put a watermark on your work (perhaps hidden in white on a white background) so that you could protect your work and claim credit for it if/when the time comes?

I may have misunderstood, but can't you just put year 10 in the shared drive, and hang on to your year 11 stuff, so you've got it in the bag, but as you weren't supposed to do it anyway there shouldn't be a problem with you not sharing it?

Chickenwing2 · 24/07/2024 16:16

I was given £200 as a Christmas gift by a customer. I told my manager who said I had to give her the money as we are not allowed to accept gifts due to bribery rules. She said she would keep it away for the next team night out. The money never appeared at future nights out and I really regret telling her I'd been given the money. £200 is a massive amount of money to me.

It's tricky- she literally does my performance management reviews. I guess the nuclear option would be to complain to her line manager but that would be major.

Just keep ‘forgetting’ - she cannot say anything as you are planning and performing. Or call in sick/come in late one day just to see what she does ?

fitzwilliamdarcy · 24/07/2024 16:23

I used to work with a boss who at 2pm every day, would kick back his chair, tip back his head, and have a 45 minute nap. Every day. Not his lunch break - he took those earlier in the day. Didn't even hide it - it was incredible.

My current colleagues are CFers in the sense that they all refuse to work Christmas because they've got kids - but I've had that in every job I've worked.

ToxicChristmas · 24/07/2024 16:26

I don't know what happens to some people when they get to work. When I worked in HR, we regularly dealt with issues around stolen lunches. Who steals a lunch?! Who goes into a fridge and spots someone else's food and thinks 'I'll have that'. I worked with people then who, on the surface, you'd never have down as thieves. We would put on a Christmas party at work with three "sittings" so that everyone could attend on whatever shift they were on. It was a buffet which we would obviously refresh and renew between sittings and a few party games with prizes. This was held in the canteen and organised by us in HR, so we did all the food/games etc. The greed was unreal. We had people shovelling chocolates into pockets by the handful and even people sneaking up between sittings to take more food when they had already had their party. You'd think they'd never been fed. Also, the mess! The often purposeful mess people would leave. Unwashed cutlery and plates left in the sink, tea bags thrown against the wall or left in the sink, rotting food or milk in the fridge, piss all over toilet seats (or worse). I always wondered if people behaved like this in their own homes. This obviously doesn't apply to everyone, but it was surprisingly common behaviour.

KStockHERO · 24/07/2024 16:27

For a year before I went to university, I was the workplace CF.

I did about an hour of work every day.
I basically spent the year walking around the building clutching a pile of paperwork to appear busy.
Whenever I wasn't doing this, I was camped at colleagues' desks pretending to get training but, instead, gossiping or flirting.
I had flings with quite a few colleagues.
In the run-up to financial year-end when we had huge targets to meet, I went off sick for a month because I couldn't be arsed with it.
I never stole food though.

At my leaving party, my boss, his boss and his boss all tried to convince me to ditch university and stay at the company, or to come back after my degree. Madness.

Omg a woman I worked with did exactly this whenever we ordered Dominoes! She’d put slices to one side to take home for her children.. no hun pay for your own kid’s dinners 😂😂

OldTinHat · 24/07/2024 16:34

A Barking Mad franchisee was the worst CF. Anyone starting with her had to be self employed and work a week, full time, free of charge, which she said was for 'training'.

She'd stay in bed until the middle of the day, but we would be expected to let ourselves into her house, clear up the piss and crap from her five dogs who weren't house trained and then go off collecting/delivering dogs.

We'd be expected to dog sit overnight at her house if she had to go away, free of charge to her. We were also expected to be available seven days a week. I said I could only do Monday to Friday as I also had a second job and was a single parent to two teenagers.

The final straw was when she asked me to work on a Saturday and consecutive Sunday, I refused (well, I was self employed after all...), she threw her toys out of the proverbial pram so I told her to stick it. She didn't pay my final invoice and took to Facebook (forgetting I had her login as I was required to post on there), slagging me off, saying I was going to prison, that I wasn't to be allowed near animals.

She was an absolute cow and even her sons wanted nothing to do with her and had gone NC.

Local authority dept head used to come in at 10, leave at 3.30 and take an hour for lunch every day. His argument was that he had to commute and it took him ages. If his secretary organised a meeting for 2pm he'd bollock her because there was a chance of it overrunning and encroaching on his 3.30 clock out.

Also worked for a charity, head of fundraising applied for a bunch of grants and put the money into his personal account. He was at least got rid of, although they let him resign and didn't prosecute.

Worked in a school, head teacher, deputy and chair of governors also diverted funds into their own pockets. All resigned and no one was prosecuted.

Went to work in another school, private this time, people paid a fair whack to go there. Deputy Head turned out to be a massive nonce, had cameras rigged up around the school that he sat and watched from home, all sorts.

I am surprised the fundraising person could do this. Grants are normally only paid to a charity bank account in the name of the charity and a copy of the bank statement has to be provided before payment. Unless this was a long time ago when there may not have been the same safeguards?

S1lverCandle · 24/07/2024 16:47

Just one colleague asked around if anyone didn't want theirs so that both his DSs could have one. I thought that was really nice.
What was really nice about trying to blag a second freebie?

Meadowwild · 24/07/2024 16:49

Not my story but the greedy management stories reminded me an actor friend of mine was in a series with a very famous, very wealthy actor. Catering staff kept finding big items like catering-size jars of coffee and oil were going missing. Guess whose car boot they were discovered in?

Secondary school teaching department. We are supposedly responsible for different year groups. I plan e.g. Year 10 well in advance, put everything on the system for colleagues to use.

Colleague who is supposed to plan Year 11 and is also head of department, just doesn't do it. Right up to the last minute before I'm supposed to be teaching the topic she still hasn't done it. The night before, I end up doing it myself. She breezes into my classroom. "O... what's that? Don't forget to put everything on the shared drive!" I end up planning everything for both year groups. She's my line manager.

Can you not simply make your yr10 resources as expected and put them in the shared area for yr10 but keep your yr11 resources (made in desperation) in your personal drive. Obvs, depending on your school's policies, they may ultimately belong to the school but at least you're not stuck making the plans and resources she's supposed to make.

At a place I used to work we did secret santa. I wasn't overly bothered about taking part but did in the spirit of things.

My santa was one of the most senior managers, which i worked out after the occasion. Just before the works christmas party we all gathered to each receive our presents which were all laid on the table, except I didn't have one. They were going round the room asking each person what they got. I felt my stomach fall and tears stung my eyes. I just quietly walked out of the room and the building and went home and didn't bother with the Christmas plans that afternoon.

A bottle of prosecco turned up on my desk a few days later. Nice, but I'll never forget being excluded. The same person also absolutely promised my job would be safe and I would be coming back post furlough. I was made redundant. Fuck you, EM.

BorsetshireBanality · 24/07/2024 16:59

My sister used to work at a charity in the late 80s - early 90s. A new CEO came onboard from an academic background who brought a new PA with him.

One day my sister came into work to find that the charity was being wound up and she was out of a job. The CEO and trustees had held a meeting over a slap up lunch in London and decided to shut up shop. My sister knows the meal cost about £500 as another employee who was being laid off showed her the receipt from a SOHO eatery submitted as expenses. The CEO went straight into a prestigious job at a University. He had spent the 18 months as CEO as leverage to get a prestigious academic job, employ his girlfriend as PA (he was married) and treat himself and his pals to fine dining.

I wish more of my colleagues would! I'm fed up of all the bad stuff hanging around the office.

I organise food for events and do take the odd thing home for other half if lots left over, save binning it but most of the time it is stale so don't. We leave left overs in kitchens for people not at the events and it normally goes. Had one woman tell me I needed to arrange to go 2 miles in to town and give it to the homeless when was binning some stale sandwiches. I told her she is free to do it if she wishes. I tend to under cater now so not much waste.

I had this during my teacher training year as we had just had a new curriculum so needed new content for everything 😅

I had the same thing at a school that I worked in.
But not only SoW, but handovers for shared classes, and exam results.
He left to go to a new school, didn't last a term but the old school had him back as the SLT loved him.

RockahulaRocks · 24/07/2024 17:08

Not sure if it’s CF or just entitled knobhead behaviour but I used to work with someone who requested reasonable adjustments, not because they had a disability but because they were put out that someone else in the wider team had some adjustments in place because they were registered blind. Apparently it was unfair and therefore against the Equality Act (?!), but he had no disability or concerns that he wanted to declare.

His list included not being contacted for at least one day per week, because he found meetings pointless, as well as working from home more often because his commute was too long (he’d moved out of town just after lock down). The company even arranged an assessment with OH to see if there was anything which may meet the need for reasonable adjustments but found no disadvantage to be alleviated.

Squellyolwelly · 24/07/2024 17:09

Colleague moved from a big city with good transport links, to a rural area. Doesn’t have a driving licence. Got a dog and then came in on the Monday after having his son bring him and the dog home, to say ‘might need a favour today, a lift to check on my dog’. So apparently couldn’t have the consideration BEFORE collecting dog to say ‘picking up my dog at the weekend, is there any chance you could please take me to check him at lunch for the first few days’

if this wasn’t bad enough, he then sat in my car on the way to his house at lunch and said his mum was saving her car for him until he passes his test, but did he really want the extra expense when he’s just taken in a dog!! Whilst using my expense!!

Soon nipped that one in the bud. Give an inch…

RockahulaRocks reminded me of the colleague who expected paid compassionate leave when David Bowie died. She didn't know him, she was just a fan.

I don't know the ins and outs. I'm just a serf. It was lottery grants under various headers is all I know. He used to come into the postroom and ask if "my" [his - quite literally as it turns out] lottery cheques had arrived. And we would all ho-ho-ho about winning the lottery - but that cheeky fucker literally did. Presumably he wanted to get a hold of them fresh from the envelope so no one else in his department saw them.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 24/07/2024 17:10

Whenever someone brings birthday treats in we tend to include some Gluten Free things. One member of staff has decided that these are meant for her sole use, so will swoop in and pick up ALL GF treats and stash them in her locker. Last time it happened she was challenged and agreed to take one thing and return the rest of the box. But in a devious counter attack upended a box of Celebrations into her bag and scuttled off!

I can see her point to be honest, especially if she's ever done any unpaid overtime, which she could equally call her time being stolen.
Lots of workplaces tolerate a bit of personal use of equipment and Sunday School classes aren't usually huge

She never had any unpaid overtime. Do you know the cost of ink/toner cartridges? No, it wasn't a few pages either. It was reams of paper she was going through, A4 and A3. A few here or there, I wouldn't have noticed. She was dismissed soon after for gross misconduct- nothing to do with the printing though.

Are you usre they were actualy taken from the office though, or is just that they are the same?

I have the same glasses at home and work, but because they're the 1st cheap ones that come up on Amazon, not 'cos I'm a theif!

It could have been a coincidence I suppose, but both the glasses and the cutlery bring the same is less likely. Also the glasses were quite distinctive, not just bog standard tumblers.

TypingoftheDead · 24/07/2024 17:15

Two managers who embezzled from the same company (one took money, the other took things ordered for the staff to use on residents - stuff like shampoo/shower gel, and then seemed puzzled when we kept running out. She also stole a full sized fridge from the kitchen!)

When I had a college weekend job, my rich bitch boss had a go at me for various things, including changing the (murky, greasy) water I was washing dishes up in too frequently, throwing a wet tea towel on the floor after she pointed out where she wanted me to put it, and wouldn’t do anything when I pointed out the cleaning products had worn out, illegible labels.
