Our business has passed an important audit so we ordered dominos for lunch.
Enough dominos pizza to give everyone 1/2 a pizza each and sides and drinks.

Total cost was £450.

One of the senior managers just had to have a word with one of the other senior leadership team that putting 3 entire pizzas, sides and a drink in his car because 'he wanted to take it home for his family and would freeze the leftovers' isn't appropriate when the admin staff haven't even had chance to get any pizza yet.

Our work generally have No issues with people taking leftovers but not when other people haven't even had lunch yet!!

Anyone else work with cheeky bastards?

I've just had to listen to someone moan and whinge about late payers, all the while biting my tongue about the FIVE MONTHS it took him to pay me for some work I did for him.

Generally the cross over between the sort of person who has the balls to steal from colleagues and the sort of person who then has the balls to complain about the food is not zero.

Also, if the person has a bad reaction and ends up in hospital, it may all come out.

There are perfectly legal ways to alter food. It just seems silly to to use a way that could result in the victim of the theft being sacked for gross misconduct / prosecuted but you do you.

Surely all you would have to say is you prepared the food for yourself specifically because you were constipated? Not your fault if someone stole it and got a raging case of the trots from it.

I miss my old workplace but one thing that really used to annoy me was I was expected to organise everything. Christmas dos, maternity gifts, leaving stuff.

Regarding christmas dos- the places often required a deposit which I had to pay out of my own pocket, for quickness before the booking was given up. Getting the money back from colleagues was murder, a couple of times someone said they'd pay me the deposit back on the day of the meal and never showed up!

If ever anyone was leaving or having a baby/milestone birthday, ex colleagues used to come up to me and say 'Wouldn't it be nice to get something for x' then ' you do it because you are good at it' . Muggins here would email about a collection, rarely got any money on time. People would say put me in for £5 , then either forget to give it to me or not be in. Of course I had to buy said gift anyway. I'm sure I'm at least £200 out of pocket from working there over 10 years.

She was definitely cutting off her nose to spite her face just to have something ‘free’.

If it makes you feel any better, teacher lunchtimes are unpaid so she’ll have worked an hour unpaid , saving the school at least a tenner.

Most schools can’t afford to pay teachers for doing a lunchtime duty, so many ask teachers to volunteer to do a lunch duty in exchange for a school dinner( which costs the s hook far less than paying for the actual work done) .

The school in question may have had such an arrangement in place, as the teacher was very much working on duty over her lunchtime.

One of my colleagues brought in a pack of new biscuits to try from a fancy store. So her own personal biscuits.
The CF saw her take them out her bag and put the pack down on the worktop to pour a drink and CF opened and took one and announced that they tasted amazing and took another 2.
There was only 4 in the pack.
My colleague was too shocked to say anything.

Awful! How was she getting in to your locker?!

Ah well - we called them lockers but they didn't actually lock, they were just cupboards really - they were in the staff room so I suppose we all thought people would behave like professionals. It was the thought that she must have systematically gone through looking in staff lockers and mentally noted what was there.

It was the same in a few schools I worked in then - the only lockers which actually locked were in communal areas.

I worked for M&S once, retail side. Uniforms took ages to arrive even though it was from their own range.

They advised to order a size either size of your normal size as they accepted their sizings weren't consistent even across the same product.

They also advised Hotter shoes as M&S ones were known not to hold up long.

After waiting several weeks for the uniform to arrive I arrived at work to find a package for me, ripped open, new stuff removed (all sizes) and someone's scuzzy old dirty uniform stuffed in there. Normal practice apparently.

My manager was about as interested in that as she was in everything else that didn't directly affect those above her in the food chain - i.e. not all.

No, I didn't stay long. Horrible, bullying employer.

Interesting. I worked for them years ago and didn’t reckon them as an employer. Management were dreadful.

Head office always buy each of us a nice Easter egg at Easter.
A few years ago, our then manager wanted to take four of the eggs home for his kids! He told us that we could share the remaining ones. Nope, that's not happening!
He got sacked when it was discovered that he was filling both his and his wife's car up with fuel on the company card instead of just the company's pool cars.

Because it's pointless. I have been paid, and I have no intention of ever working for him again, and if I commented on every pompous arse thing that comes out of his mouth, I'd never get any work done.

BorsetshireBanality · 25/07/2024 14:14

My section was packing in preparation to move to a new site when the goods inwards guy wheeled in a brand new executive chair into the office. The paperwork showed our section number on it meaning the cost had come of our section’s budget. Turns out “Mr Cheeky” the marketing manager who was taking over the office once we moved out was taking advantage of the move’s confusion to get himself a really nice work chair as well as a large office all to himself. I tried to get the cost shifted to Mr Cheeky’s budget but I was told to leave it as he was a friend of the managing director and it’s not good to “stick your head above the parapet”

The site we moved to had a different sales/marketing department. One of the administrators noticed that the foreign travel of “Mr Air Miles” coincided with major sporting events (not F1 but a similarly high money sport) that took place in various countries around the world. His business class travel and high class hotel bookings were all on expenses (but he had never achieved any sales from these visits). The administrator mentioned this travel pattern to one of the directors, but unluckily for her he was a friend of Mr Air Miles and the director sacked her.

@Inertia why should that lunch come out of the money for children getting free school meals? She was literally stealing from the children. Get management to pay for her lunch if she was entitled to one. Although management should also then provide lunch to the volunteers and TAs.

There was a threshold for sick days, they took the maximum every year. When it changed to number of absences, their sick leave pattern changed too. That was just one example. They knew the HR policies by heart and took every scrap they could wing.

My dad told me that he went to work at a local authority in the early 1970s. The sick policy was one week of paid sick leave for every completed year of employment. His first year was completed, and the boss, (the Chief Finance Officer), dropped by his desk and said 'You've done a year, let me know when you want to take your week'. Dad said 'Er, you want to know when I'll be ill?' Boss said 'Well, kind of, everybody has their weeks'. One woman had accumulated 26 weeks, and she took them!

I think I can now safely say it was Avon County Council. Everyone was at it Half the councillors were on some kind of fiddle.

God where do I start I have encountered so many CF colleagues I could fill this thread up alone!

I seem to attract a lot food thieving/scavenging colleagues. In my first job cheeky fucker colleague 1 was a greedy cow she would remark "hmm that looks nice" and just take food off of people's plates whilst they were still eating! She once ate my entire lunch so I had to go out and buy mine so I bought some chips. Got back sat down in the staff room and the cheeky cow said "they look tasty" and reached her hand out but I was quicker moved my box of chips out of her reach and said "aren't you full from eating my lunch" she was shocked but not shocked enough to reply "you're so selfish WickedWitch sharing is caring" which she said repeatedly whenever someone rarely refused to share their food with her or do her any favours it used to drive me nuts because in the 18 months I worked in this place she never brought any food in for lunch or to share with other colleagues and the managers were too shit scared to tell her to stop because 'she got things done' i.e. she bullied people and they were fine with that as staff did as they were told rather than risk upsetting her but I had no such qualms the nasty cow never cared for anyone else's feelings so I gave zero fucks about hers.

Cheeky fucker colleague 2 another food thief when I worked in retail would help herself to my food replace it, show me she has replaced it then would open it up and eat half or most leaving me with a small portion then replace again and do the same despite me asking nicely to stop then straight up telling her to keep her greedy hands off my stuff! She once saw my cigarettes in my bag and called out to me casually "WickedWitch I'm gonna nick a ciggie off you" and reached into my bag for my pack, I snapped "no you're not, get your hand out of my bag now!" To which she huffed then went to her coat pocket where she got her own nearly full pack of ciggies out and didn't offer me one despite poncing about 5 ciggies off me that week! I was glad when she got sacked the lazy thieving cheeky cow.

Cheeky fucker colleague 3 was the perfect example of the sin gluttony and a very greedy madam indeed. We were friends at first but she was two faced and lazy, any tasks she didn't want to do she would cry how she struggled and could I or anyone help (do it for her).

We used to get boxes of chocolates from our service users and one bought us two big boxes of celebrations for all of our team. I ate 4 of the twix and about 2 other chocolates that was it. Within two days the celebrations were finished. The cheeky fucker told our team leader and deputy manager that I ate most of the chocolates and anyone else barely got a look in. Thankfully team leader knew me well and told deputy manager she didn't believe that. Deputy manager questioned me and I admitted eating the twix and 2 other chocolates but left the rest and I don't like nuts of any kind in chocolate or as a snack and asked her to check the cameras as proof of what I was saying (it was similar to a refuge but not one so we had vulnerable people, and sometimes children on our premises hence CCTV everywhere but the toilets and bathrooms). Anyway cameras get checked and cheeky fucker colleague was seen grabbing handfuls of chocolates every time she went into the kitchen. When she got pulled up the stupid cow continued to insist I had eaten the chocolates until the deputy manager told her she was caught on camera she then backtracked and said she hadn't realised it was her! 😯

Another time I was needed for a shift which was on my day off so the deputy manager said she'd buy me a takeaway if I would come in and also do some really important admin work for her which I agreed. When I ordered my food I asked everyone if they wanted to order anything they said no. Within minutes of my food arriving cheeky fucker came in said it smells nice and can she nick a bit of my food. I told her no as I was still pissed off at her blaming me over chocolategate and said she had her chance to order food, she actually tutted at me and 'jokingly' called me tight!

I could go on and on but there'd be no more space on this thread lol I honestly don't know why I attract food thief CF but everywhere I have worked there is at least one who helps themselves to my food and drinks without asking then act offended when I say no their entitlement is shocking I wish I had the guts to put laxatives in my food and drink to teach them a lesson but that's taking it to the extreme plus I don't wanna risk someone having a bad reaction but it really pisses me off when it happens.

At a place I used to work we did secret santa. I wasn't overly bothered about taking part but did in the spirit of things

A good few years ago, I got pressured into SS. I don't really like Christmas in any case; we were told to spend £10 - £12 and given examples of what to get. I got some hand made chocolates for my recipient, just under £12 and got a cheap, shitty deodorant and show gel, which cost £2.99.

Never again.

I do seabed surveys and years ago, we had a huge internet cable job, from Asia, Africa, Middle East and into Europe. We got to the end of a crucial section and went back to the office, pulling 18 hour days, 7 days a week, for weeks. We got it done a little bit early and Alcatel gave out team £500 for a night out. We all went on leave for a few days.

When we got back, we found that a woman who was nothing to do with our department had taken the money. She was French and she and a French department head had taken two other French colleagues, from another company out and spent it all. They were bragging about the £100 bottles of wine they had.

We were really pissed off and complained, only to be told, "Oh, that's Cecile! It's gone now, don't worry about it!"

Stupid blonde, eyelash fluttering performative weeper she was, she had all the male managers sniffing round her and letting her off with all sorts.

Dh did a Christmas season at M&S. Only ever received one item of new uniform. Nothing else in the bag that was addressed to him.

I did a Christmas season at John Lewis.
Temporary staff were not invited to any Christmas functions and you weren’t even allowed the staff canteen Christmas lunch because apparently it had already been organised before you started there, in October.
They’re really tight.

This also happens at our place- global manufacturing, if you are a contractor or working for an agency you are not allowed for xmas dinner or xmas party or attend any events we have - Also don't get a welcome pack when you start ( now its nothing special, a water bottle, notepad, pen etc) I think its shocking., like they are working with part of our team. we have some colleagues there for a few years and they not allowed, so so bad - If i ever bring anything in, i always make sure that they get some of it

cstaff · 25/07/2024 16:34

Back in the 80's I was doing a lot of temporary work, a few weeks/months here and there. I was working as PA to the MD for a company for about 5/6 months when he asked me to organise the Xmas lunch. This was before email so I had to type up individual invites to all employees (about 25 I think - small company) and hand them back to him to sign off on. Stupidly I made the mistake of doing one for myself only to have him come in and tell me that as I was only a temp that I was not part of the company. I was so embarrassed. Another employee tried to speak to him on my behalf but he was having none of it.

I know some people will say that I was in the wrong but all I was was mortified. I was only early 20s at the time also.

We have often have treats at work. My supervisor will go up and get one, again and again, across the course of an hour or two, and essentially decimate the entire offering. He sees no problem with it and loudly declares it each time!

@PregnantWithHorrors they were entitled cheeky fuckers but they acted so fun and easy going not everyone saw the problem of them stealing other people's food until happened to them of course then it was a different kettle of fish. Cheeky fucker colleague 2 had no shame whatsoever she ponced off everyone and if you ignored her she would repeatedly ask again and again until you gave into her it was almost like she was trying to shame you into sharing with her. I ended up telling her I'm not bloody food bank and to buy her own lunch if she was that hungry. She didn't care she would rifle through the cupboards and fridge and take anything she fancied. I did get my own back I came in one day and she had eaten my kit kats, chrisps, drank my can of coke and finished off my butter and milk. I went apeshit and called my managers boss raging and he said to take the money out of the till to replace my food. I hid all her stuff, sweets, chocolate, chrisps etc and when she came in and couldn't find it she accused me to which I replied "not me maybe its the same person who keeps stealing my food" she then texted my other colleagues and manager in the group chat accusing them of eating her food and I was seething at her nerve I chucked it all in the bin when she wasn't looking so she had to replace it all, served her right the greedy cow!

Sounds more like junior school antics than a workplace.

@S1lverCandle thats exactly what it was junior school antics but these were grown women in their 20s, 30s and 40s with children of their own. It all sounds so petty when I read it back but it was a big problem I wasn't the only one they did it to but it was my food that was repeatedly stolen the most myself and colleagues complained so many times and nothing was done because certain managers felt it was petty but as I and a couple of others pointed out we aren't food banks its costing us a lot money having to constantly replace our food.

When I worked in retail in a bookies the cheekiness of colleagues was next level. Two lazy colleagues pocketed a £30 tip between themselves when it was known to split the tips between colleagues who were on shift. I found out what they did when the customer who tipped mentioned it. I had no clue what he was on about then he told me. I told my manager that since they won't share with me I won't be sharing my tips with them and he agreed. Low and behold a good customer had a nice win and as I sorted the bet and paid it he handed me about £20 and said it was for me. I thanked him and put it in my back pocket and said nothing a little while after the lazy two who didn't split the tip with me asked for their share I took great delight in saying that since they don't share the tips they get I'm not obligated to share mine. They wasted no time in telling the manager who told them I was right and thats the new rule if you don't share your tips you can't expect a share of other people's tips. Didn't work out for those lazy sods because me and the others used to get tipped a lot whereas they didn't because they couldn't be bothered to make the effort with customers needless to say they used sit there with faces like a slapped arse whilst we enjoyed the fruits of our hard work. 🤣🤣

Last week, as we were breaking up for summer after a particularly hard year at school, the governors sent us a box of cupcakes which was a really lovely thought. However, there were 4. We have 60 staff in school 😅

I am the governor for cakeage at school... we have 166 staff... I buy a cake for everyone and a large amount of chocolate at Easter, otherwise it is not fair. It is, however, a bugger to carry them over from the supermarket.
