I will start off by saying I love the English countryside, the beaches, most of the people but I’m having a hard time deciding if it’s worth living here anymore. We’ve got the opportunity now to move abroad and I know the grass is not greener and I’ll be incredibly sad to leave but….

We pay a huge amount of tax (top tax band) and it’s not spent on tangible things we benefit from- for example I have no problem if it goes into the NHS or to people who can’t work etc but it’s not; millions of pounds gets spent on things that do not improve the lives of people in our country and then they wonder why people become resentful of paying all the taxes we do.

My children can’t just go out and play as knife crime is rife where we are , as is bullying, fighting and uploading the video etc

Everything seems disproportionately expensive as compared to earnings- for example, rent, mortgage , bills etc out disposable income is a lot smaller than say ten years ago despite earning a lot more.

I love our community, I strangely love the English weather but I’m finding things hard. There were riots in the city near where we live last week. The country just seems abit broken and a lot of unrest.

I read posts on here - especially ones about private school VAT - and people seem angry, hateful of those with more and kindness
seems to have been lost.

Is this just what England is now?

Reasons why I live here:
I was born here
educational opportunities are some of the best in the world ( I say that as a state school teacher)
because the worst that would hurt me in the woods in regards to animals is an angry badger I fall over.
because of our sense of humour, not many countries take the piss out of ourselves and others as much as we do, it suits my personality!
because if you do get lost in the wilderness, it will be ok as a pub will be ten minutes away.
Because even though I moan about our weather I do love not being uncomfortably hot when working or walking outside.
British food! We do amazing meat, cheeses, puddings and are absolute magpies for other cuisines. I got bored of a holiday in Rome once as I couldn’t find any non Mediterranean style dishes after a week of eating just that.
because we are not a corrupt country, there are rules that are largely stuck to- no matter the conspiracy theorists and moaners, go live in Africa or the Balkans then compare corruption!
I like the fact that our Police are not to be feared; you smile at them they smile back. You may have a different experience but most people in England do think like me in that regard.,
I like our lovely quirky boutique shops in pretty market towns
i love old houses, old architecture old old old!
I love wild swimming knowing I’m not going to be eaten by a shark or snake!
I love football banter
i love our accents and slang
i I love our democracy
I love dandelion and burdock
i love national trust properties and museums
i love that we have the best live entertainment gigs available to see in the world- sorry but you won’t get that in New Zealand
I love that I feel safe here- people going on about knife crime. Not sure where you live, but it’s not like that where I live in the midlands and I don’t live anywhere posh.
theres loads of other things but I can’t be bothered to write anymore!
