I'm disabled but have been trying to sort out two bedrooms. I've not needed clothes, rarely used single duvets in a guest room where I've bought a double bed so don't need them. I've broken, outgrown toys that the grandchildren no longer want.

I've four adults staying this weekend so am buying new bedding for one bedroom which the grandchildren use.

Round here it's one place for clothes, another for bedding, the rest going to the tip. So three different places in three areas.

I'm just looking at all the black sacks thinking how the heck do I get them down two steps along the passage, up five steps to where the car is, drive to three locations and hump them in while using a stick.

What I wouldn't give for a man in a van who could sweep them away.

No wonder people hoard sigh,.....

Should I just suck it up and crack on?

Is there any charity which would take the stuff that's not for the tip?

Can't your visiting adults do a dump run for you?

Mmmmdanone · 22/07/2024 13:06

You could definitely pay for disposal but they'd probably just chuck it all away. Does the tip not have clothes recycling bins too? Mine has charity and textile bins.

Mmmmdanone · 22/07/2024 13:08

And get one of the adults to help load the car

Eviebeans · 22/07/2024 13:10

4 adults helping could get that sorted in no time

GenAvocadoOnToast · 22/07/2024 13:10

At my local tip they have people on site who usually come up to you and offer to carry and dispose of the things for you. It doesn't help with the issue of getting them into the car in the first place though. I feel for you as I struggle with all this too.

Thank you I'm really trying to get stuff to where it does the most good

Part of the reason for my procrastination is the thought of it going in landfill! I managed to take a bag of very old clothes to the textile recycling bank at a supermarket a few weeks ago, only to find it overflowing. I went to another one but it was too small to get anything other than a small carrier bag through (and they insisted on the clothes being bagged). So they stayed in my car for another couple of weeks until the first one had been emptied. It's all such a pain but I feel I have to do it as responsibly as possible. Well done on getting it all sorted into bags, that in itself is a big hurdle.

marshmallowfinder · 22/07/2024 13:36

Freecycle? I use it loads to give stuff away. It's brilliant.

Fimbledore · 22/07/2024 13:38

Can you ask on Facebook for someone to take it for you?

PaleSunshineOfHope · 22/07/2024 13:51

Tell your adult guests that one of them will need to do a tip run before they can get into their bedroom.

Can you pay the council to come and collect? Ours do a 'bulky waste' service where you pay a fee of a bit less than £30 and you can put out a certain amount of items. It's usually larger bits like mattresses etc, and I know yours is bin bags, but if you speak to your council and explain your physical difficulties they might sort it for you (ours will, they're quite helpful).

Ours don't just direct us to the recycling centre

Many years ago, when I was in the Scouts, we used to do this sort of thing in exchange for a donation to our unit funds. Thought of trying them OP?

How helpful of them! Pretty ableist. What are people with physical disabilities meant to do?

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 22/07/2024 14:45

Normally Facebook people collect. Why are you making it more difficult for yourself?!

You have four presumably able-bodied adults in the house - why can't one of them help?

wibblywobblywoo · 22/07/2024 14:51

"I've four adults staying this weekend"

I'm baffled as to why that isn't your solution??

If they're close enough to be put up in your home surely they're close enough to help you as needed. No?

SleepingStandingUp · 22/07/2024 15:02

Agree ask adults to help load the cars. Then take bedding and clothes to one charity shop. Get a second load filled and do the tip run

I've never met two of them and I'm not expecting them to arrive to a hallway full of black bags to get rid of for me over the weekend. They're guests. How odd of you to suggest that.

No wonder people hoard and never have guests

Seriously???

You have people staying in your home but you can't say "do me a favour" or "help me" ?? Why would they not want to help you???

wibblywobblywoo · 22/07/2024 16:01

"No wonder people hoard and never have guests"

Thanks for that though, that is hilarious and makes literally no sense! 😂😂😂

I just couldn't ask strangers to do that. It's not like family.

Phone or check your council website, there's usually help available for those who can't manage their rubbish/recycling. In our area (Essex) they have Assisted Collections for those with disabilities.

From council recycling website

...If you can't get your recycling and rubbish out to the front of your house, we can help. This is called an "assisted collection". It means you can agree with us a place on your property that is accessible and we will collect your recycling and rubbish from there...

Paulrn · 23/07/2024 12:06

not sure where you are but this charity collects from us about every two months

Are you on neighbour next door or your local FB page and be willing to ask for help? This is the sort of thing my area is great for. I'd happily do this for a someone local who I don't know.
