Dogs in restaurants

MealDealDreamz · 21/07/2024 10:50

Informal dining and cafes, fine. Pubs, fine. But only if dogs are on the floor and reasonably well behaved (by that I mean not barking all the time).Restaurant not fine. Am I alone in this?
If I am paying to go somewhere specifically to enjoy the food and pay extra for it and want to enjoy a special evening (birthday) why do I have to put up with a dog lying on the floor at the table next to me?. I just don't think this is necessary or acceptable. Am I totally alone in this?

Oooh goody, it’s another dog thread! 🙄🙄🙄

Portakalkedi · 21/07/2024 18:44

It's disgusting. Dogs have no place in restaurants or anywhere people are eating. It's hard to find a place that doesn't allow them, so it's not as easy as that. It goes against all food hygiene rules and common sense and I'm amazed it's allowed at all.

PixieLaLar · 21/07/2024 18:45

Trixiefirecracker · 21/07/2024 16:27

I did, it was a follow on from my original post. Dogs lick their arses, eat shit and leave fur around. That’s basically why they shouldn’t be allowed near food for starters.

Describing dogs in a derogatory way doesn’t prove your point - I could say toddlers shit themselves, dribble, drop food, scream, cry and break things so I would rather they weren’t in restaurants over a dog sitting quietly under a table literally not doing anything.

I’ve shared my kitchen diner with my dogs for years. Nothing bad has happened. My dogs are more hygienic than some humans.

@PixieLaLar

dogs shit isn’t contained in the way that a toddlers would be seeing as dogs don’t wear nappies or pants.

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/07/2024 18:56

As a dog owner no way would I take my dogs to anywhere people eat. Couldn't think of anything worse and it would freak my dogs out.

Startingagainandagain · 21/07/2024 18:56

@Philandbill
' Dog owners like you @Startingagainandagain come across as incredibly entitled...'

Which is funny because I am not a dog owner. I have cats.

I do find dogs perfectly pleasant and don't expect their owners to keep them locked at home...

I am also tired of people whining about dogs all the time, especially in a situation (restaurant) when the solution is so simple: eat somewhere that does not allow dogs.

My dog has never shat inside a pub or restaurant though toddlers shit themselves on the table next to you and it stinks. I have also seen people changing their dirty nappies on restaurant tables whilst other guests around them are trying to enjoy their food.

Now that is disgusting and unhygienic.

It’s hardly derogatory, just plain fact or would you like to argue about that?

I’ve never come across a dog shitting in a restaurant. They’re usually well behaved.
Whats licking a bare arsehole got to do with a dog sitting quietly under a table ?

There are plenty of people who spit, don’t wash their hands after wiping their arses and cough in your face.
I would have thought they would be more of a health hazard in a restaurant setting. Imagine the back of your chair touched by someone with shitty fingers !

To get more to the point, what you said is not relevant because dogs don’t piss or shit on restaurant floors, generally speaking.

Yeah how many blokes come out of the men’s, zipping their fly, with mucky hands?

It does not go against food hygiene rules at all. Places that allow dogs can still have a 5 star rating.

Dogs are not allowed in the food preparation areas, but then neither are the general public. That is to do with food hygiene rules.

i haven’t read the whole thread but has this descended into a “dogs are better than kids” slanging match yet? That’s the usual trajectory.

No, but some lick other people's arseholes. Rimming anyone? 😅

I don’t mind so long as the dog is well-behaved and not yapping.

I’ve had many evenings out interrupted by loud / drunk adults, but never a dog.

I agree they shouldn’t be on the furniture.

Edited

I feel the same about children in pubs & restaurants!

Onemorefortheroad · 21/07/2024 20:01

Have had a couple of instances recently where we have been out for dinner and someone has brought in a dog that absolutely stinks. Not exactly what you want when eating 🤢

Dogs up on furniture as well is so frustrating as someone with very severe allergies but seems to be the way it's going. I reckon it will full circle as people are so entitled that it will go too far.

True 😅

When you think about it, humans are pretty disgusting. But we have rules about certain things, whereas dogs don't. Holding dogs to the same standards as humans is just bizarre. Dogs lick their arses because that is how they groom themselves. It is their way of keeping clean.

I remember on one of the other hundreds of dog threads, someone said it would not be acceptable for a human male to be playing with himself in public, so it should not be allowed for male dogs to lick themselves in public either.

The world is full of arse lickers, literally and figuratively speaking.

I don’t know….I’ve spent many an hour on my previous train commutes to work sat next to people why smell like they bathe in their own piss! Look at Jonathan Ross admitting to showering only once every two weeks. These people live, and eat, amongst us.

sunglassesonthetable · 21/07/2024 20:03

It's up to the restaurant..
That's it.

And money talks.

You just have to ring ahead.

Not to mention the nose pickers and snotty toddlers.

sunglassesonthetable · 21/07/2024 20:08

The why should I HAVE to ring ahead argument is feeble.

Want vegan food? check first
Want gluten free ? check first
Want nut free? check first
Don't want loud music? check first
Want the specials? check first
Want a table for 10 ? Check first.
Don't want dogs ? Check first

There are soooo many dog threads started though. At least one a week, just repeating the same narrative about dogs allowed in restaurants, in shops, in cafes. So clearly you’re going to read the same narrative about children. Some people like dogs, some like children and some like both. Businesses have to cater to their business needs. And if they get people using their facilities daily or weekly due to their policy on allowing dogs, then they will accommodate. Dog walkers are out and about every day, so are more likely to use cafes, whereas someone without a dog might just do the odd monthly visit.
