Do you believe the universe tries to tell us things

And it tries to push us in another direction or gives hints of it?
Currently live abroad, but for a while it feels everything has been against us-not keen on the schools, had money struggles, now lots of ill health and people passing in the family.
I often wonder if it’s just telling us to give up, go back home.
Have you ever felt like this? Do you fight against it or leave things to fate?

I believe things happen for a reason ut not sure what the reason is.
I think sometimes its to teach us life lessons.

PetrichorSoul · 20/07/2024 20:46

Yes!

If it’s easy it’s the path I should follow.

If it’s impossible to find a solution, it’s time for another plan. I’m in limbo at the moment waiting for direction. I hope it’s path I want to take!

savethatkitty · 20/07/2024 20:46

I believe signs are everywhere! Absolutely the universe will attempt to guide/warn you. The difficulty lies in being able to hear & decipher those messages!

BibbleandSqwauk · 20/07/2024 20:47

Absolutely not, no. And I don't think things happen for a reason either..I mean, physical cause and effect yes, but not some cosmic fate that comes about through x,y and z events. Things happen due to choices made. Interesting work being done all the time about the link between neurology and "free will" but that still does not point to "meaning" or "destiny". If a good outcome eventually occurs following shitty events that's nice, but the result of simple happenstance.

Hateam · 20/07/2024 20:50

I believe shit happens.
That's where my deep thinking ends and my problem solving begins.

AppleCream · 20/07/2024 20:51

I don't believe this personally. But if things aren't going well, then you can decide to come home. Not because the universe is telling you but just because you choose to.

BollockstoThis1 · 20/07/2024 20:55

Not sure in your case.

But sometimes in the past when I have simplified certain things life gets better as it’s less complicated and less stressful. Not thinking of anything major just something like applying for a better job I enjoyed more, more money, much closer to home i.e. within easy walking distance rather than a fairly short drive with lots of traffic and around the same time DD turned two and I was able to move both DC to a nursery closer to home rather than work and closer to the primary school they would eventually go to. I not only saved time, saved stress, got some exercise, time outside and more quality time with my DC so I felt happier.

HoppityBun · 20/07/2024 20:57

Absolutely not.
“The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent, but if we can come to terms with this indifference, then our existence as a species can have genuine meaning. However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.”
Stanley Kubrick

KreedKafer · 20/07/2024 20:58

No. The universe is no more aware of you than you are aware of an individual cell in your body and things absolutely do not ‘happen for a reason’.

Round3HereWeGo · 20/07/2024 20:59

No. The universe isn't thinking about me or anyone else.

dbeuowlxb173939 · 20/07/2024 21:07

No

MounjaroUser · 20/07/2024 21:11

Lovely as it would be to think this, then it really doesn't make sense. Within a relationship the universe could be telling each of you something different!

I do believe in intuition, though, which seems to be what's going on for you now. There are tons of tiny things that are happening and realisations made that come together to make you know the right thing you should do. Listen to your inner voice and to your experiences, not the universe

MounjaroUser · 20/07/2024 21:11

That Stanley Kubrick quote is brilliant.

1441x · 20/07/2024 21:17

Yes and no.
No the universe doesn't try and give you signs or tell you things, that's a huge load of people it would need to give signs to. However I do believe certain things happen for a reason (burnt toast theory) and I've this year been telling myself over and over to stop trying to make things fit the narrative, for example i have to do this or that because that's what I originally planned or that's what people would expect.
If you feel something isn't quite right living abroad then come home, don't stay just because it would be the easier option and would fit a better narrative

SeeSeeRider · 20/07/2024 21:18

I think 'the universe' is like a giant Rorschach test - a psychometric examination of pareidolia, the active pattern of perceiving objects, shapes, or scenery as meaningful things to the observer's experience. The universe is a bunch of matter. It can no more 'tell us things' than a rock can.

SeeSeeRider · 20/07/2024 21:19

Totally this.

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 20/07/2024 21:20

The only thing I think the universe tells me is that I deserve another biscuit.

LuckyOnes · 20/07/2024 21:20

No. In your case, you are unsure about the step you have taken, in part because some of the settling in stuff/being away from your home country hasn't gone well, so you are desperate for a 'meaningful' pattern that tells you whether you should just go home again because the universe wants you to.

It's much harder to listen to yourself and decide what you actually want. And to take responsibility for deciding to stay or go home. The universe is mute.

XChrome · 20/07/2024 21:22

Not sure. I'm agnostic, so I don't believe in a higher intelligence at work in our lives. Nor do I disbelieve. I think it's unknowable.
I do know that shit happens, and it happens completely randomly. So I would not be leaping to the conclusion that these are signs from the universe.

FinalCeleryScheme · 20/07/2024 21:25

Yes, of course. The mountains on Mars and the gas clouds around the as yet undiscovered galaxy MHT345 totally care whether that bloke rings you back. Defo.

PinkPlantCase · 20/07/2024 21:25

I believe that god does 🙂

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 20/07/2024 21:26

I think so, I'd like it to be true anyway

Werweisswohin · 20/07/2024 21:27

No, I don't believe that at all.
I do believe we can convince ourselves it is though.

Longdueachange · 20/07/2024 21:28

Ha ha, 100%. People who talk about the universe needing them to do something need to come off whatever it is they are smoking and take responsibility. Its like the new "God's will" or "Jesus made me do it".

DriverMeCrazy · 20/07/2024 21:29

‘Things happen for a reason’ is the greatest load of bullshit.
Explain childhood cancer, kids being murdered in war. What’s the ‘reason’ for that?
