Snide bloke Vinted - light hearted

Flipzandchipz · 18/07/2024 20:48

Selling an item on Vinted, it is practically brand new, bought for £40 quid and worn once so selling for £15. I’m totally aware I’d be lucky to get £15. Anyways, this bloke messaged offering £9, I’d already had an offer for £10 from someone else but declined, I’ve only just popped it on, have had 10 favourites and lots of views already so was just planning on seeing what happens.

He sent a message back immediately asking what I’d accept. For some reason the app won’t let me message, it won’t send. I did try to justify why I was asking for £15 but in the end all I could put was a generic reply with an amount so I said I’d accept £15. He’s put ‘good luck with that’

AIBU or is this a dick move? Obviously can’t reply but if you could what would you put? I wanted to put thanks 😊

Worn once is worn, and on Vinted you always need a healthy scepticism when someone claims something has only been worn once or twice. As soon as the tags come off you do have to heavily discount. Even with tags people rightly expect you to significantly undercut the RRP or why wouldn’t they just buy from a business?

It’s an annoying and unnecessary message from him, but there’s a point in there.

CrumbleTots · 18/07/2024 20:51

Thumbs up

CrumbleTots · 18/07/2024 20:52

Or counter offer for £50

pasturesgreen · 18/07/2024 20:52

Meh, life really is too short to justify your pricing to some random bloke on Vinted.

PixiePirate · 18/07/2024 20:53

There are some right knobbers on Vinted. Some people just don’t like to be told no.

powershowerforanhour · 18/07/2024 20:54

Yeah it's a bit dickish. I don't use Vinted- is there a section where you can see how much items that you put on a watch list were eventually sold for. If so, I really hope somebody offers £15 quickly, as much for the "In your face, Goodluckwiththat Boy" as the money.

CrumbleTots · 18/07/2024 20:55

You can see it's sold but no way of seeing how much it went for.

Dinosweetpea · 18/07/2024 20:55

Just ignore, I sell and buy a lot on Vinted, I regularly just decline and ignore silly offers.

powershowerforanhour · 18/07/2024 20:56

"Thumbs up"

Ideal reaction actually- cheery, breezy, takes the snide comment innocently at face value, takes less time to type than his message.

Flipzandchipz · 18/07/2024 20:58

I really wanted to put the thumbs up, the app isn’t working properly. Or was temped to either counter offer for more as PP suggested or settle for either £8 or less then £15 just to annoy him ha

Ineedaholidayyyy · 18/07/2024 21:00

He's basically spat his dummy out because you won't accept his offer, just ignore him. There is obviously some interest if people are favouriting the item.

£15 for a second hand item that's been worn once (if you are being honest) isn't a ridiculous price, but people just expect stuff for nothing on vinted unfortunately.

Flipzandchipz · 18/07/2024 21:02

I do get his point, I just think why the fuck would anyone be that bothered to put a snide message, I think £15 is discounted a fair bit. I probably would have accepted less but his attitude put me right off, I would honestly take a fiver now just to rub it in.😂

I've had similar. Put something up for sale that is new and is £12 from the shop. I can't remember what I listed it as for sure but I think it was £9. Someone offered £7 so I sent a counteroffer of £8. She then rather rudely said 'that would cost me more than if I bought from the shop', with postage. I explained that I can't see what postage is for each individual and assumed it would be a couple of quid as it is whenever I buy anything. Anyway, I accepted her offer of £7 as I thought I'd be nice. No response back!

Weird isn’t it, like if you don’t like the price offered there’s no harm in throwing in a cheeky lower offer but to get snippy with the person selling when they decline is weird, like either take it or leave it, why get so defensive! 😊

I have lovely shoes for boys, brand new with tags. They are no longer for sale from the actual shop.

Someone really wanted them but she wanted them cheap. She said the postage and buyer fee and the full amount adds up to the retail price. I wanted to tell her I had paid postage on top, as well but didn't bother.
Also could've said 'good luck buying them from the shop with them being limited edition'...

I am open to offers generally, but hers was just too low.

Flipzandchipz · 18/07/2024 21:16

I just think if I want to ask for a higher price- in the view of Vinted buyers- then that’s my choice.

Cherrysoup · 18/07/2024 21:42

Vinted is notorious for cheap clothes, tho. I’ve bought and sold jeans for £3, all in excellent condition. You might be better off on eBay at that price.

DysonSphere · 18/07/2024 21:59

Wow, I have been doing Vinted wrong! I have never choosen the 'Make an offer' choice, as I assumed that's only an option for really expensive items (I assumed the seller would set the price high in hopes of getting the offer price they really want) Stupid me!

When someone says 'worn once' I assume it's been probably been worn more times but that it can still pass as new/is on a very good condition so I just pay what's asked.

That said I go for niche category dress items. I do my research so if it's a coveted item no longer being sold from retailer as the PP said, I am willing to pay a decent price for it anyway

I recently bought a dress that has quite a bit of damage on it ( it hasn't arrived so I have yet to see how dire it is but it's not great) for £13.00. Both the seller and I know the price it is new, so I would have been taking the piss asking for less frankly.

But maybe I do need to summon up some bolshines and start trying my luck!

Flipzandchipz · 19/07/2024 03:35

I do have lots of other stuff, generally 2 or 3 quid for dresses/jackets, all in good condition but worn a fair few times but the very odd item that’s essentially new but without tags I’ve popped on for more, as I said am totally aware it’s unlikely to sell but happy to give it a few weeks. Just think snidely man’s attitude was unnecessary and had several choice thoughts of what I could pop back over to him 😊. In reality I doubt I would have sent anything other than a cheeky thumbs up.

@DysonSphere give it a go, I’ve accepted lower offers before, actually nearly accepted a tenner for this item hence why I rejected the £9. I did get someone asking if I’d accept £1 instead of £1.50 for something once which I wasn’t expecting, actually think I accepted it thinking they must have been really desperate for the the item and it wasn’t worth arguing the toss over with them

He offered £9 and you declined - fair enough.

He asked what you'd accept and you essentially said 'the asking price', which is rather optimistic for Vinted.

So you got a sarcastic response, which was fair enough really in the circumstances.

So you think he's a dick for his sarcastic reply.

And he thinks you're a dick for refusing to engage with his reasonable request about how much you'd accept.

So a bit of a non-story really.

This ^^

offers usually last for a couple of days, if I have just listed something I don't even look at messages until the next dsy. Things often go for full price.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 19/07/2024 08:37

I always get people offering £1 for a £1.50/£2 item in good condition, it feels like it's just an offer for an offers sake and it annoys me, just pay the price if you want the item 🙄

CaputDraconis · 19/07/2024 08:58

People want everything for £1 on vinted.

I have a book up, used but pristine condition. It is out of print and I had to buy direct from the publisher which cost £9.99 + postage.

You cannot buy this book on amazon or any mainstream book shops as it is out of print and only available direct from the publisher.

I have it up for £5 which after P&P still comes out cheaper than direct from the publisher.

I am getting offers for £2.

I'm declining them all. They then reply saying "I'll get it from amazon then" OK...it isn't on there new only second hand for over £15 so good luck!

Why would you sell something for cheaper than you bought it? Especially if out of print. If it's £15.00 on Amazon, would you not be better of selling it on Amazon for £11.00 or £12.00

Mind you back in the day it was easy to be a seller on Amazon, I don't know about these days.
