Snide bloke Vinted - light hearted

Selling an item on Vinted, it is practically brand new, bought for £40 quid and worn once so selling for £15. I’m totally aware I’d be lucky to get £15. Anyways, this bloke messaged offering £9, I’d already had an offer for £10 from someone else but declined, I’ve only just popped it on, have had 10 favourites and lots of views already so was just planning on seeing what happens.

He sent a message back immediately asking what I’d accept. For some reason the app won’t let me message, it won’t send. I did try to justify why I was asking for £15 but in the end all I could put was a generic reply with an amount so I said I’d accept £15. He’s put ‘good luck with that’

AIBU or is this a dick move? Obviously can’t reply but if you could what would you put? I wanted to put thanks 😊

On Amazon as opposed to Vinted I mean.

Janieforever · 19/07/2024 09:24

God all this for a pound. I can’t decide who’s worse, him being snidey for a couple of quid or you being so uptight about it you start a thread.

Why would you sell something for cheaper than you bought it? Especially if out of print. If it's £15.00 on Amazon, would you not be better of selling it on Amazon for £11.00 or £12.00

Mind you back in the day it was easy to be a seller on Amazon, I don't know about these days.

Mainly because amazon turnaround times for posting are quite tight (or at least they used to be I haven't sold on amazon in a long long time) vinted is just an easier more seller friendly platform.

I must admit I do love Vinted as a shopper rather than Amazon or Ebay now. It has a friendlier and more accessible feel to it. Like Ebay used to in the early days.

@Janieforever I’m uptight? 😂 your post says more about you than it does me

@DysonSphere just nosy curious! How damaged was the dress you received?

cansu · 03/08/2024 14:40

I always price items about three quid more than I want. People make an offer. I counter at the price I am willing to accept and everyone is happy.

boredybored · 03/08/2024 14:47

I offered something for free once and the lady was really friendly . I offered to drop the item off because I wanted rid of it but it would fit in my car in the end . When I politely messaged her she got soo nasty telling me all sorts of vile stuff .. honestly selling stuff is so tricky

boredybored · 03/08/2024 14:48

On vinted though if they bid me low and counter with my original asking price . It amuses me 🤣

Tightfishedtwat · 03/08/2024 15:27

Thing with Vinted it the. It just £15 it's postage and protection on top. I was looking at a hoodie which is £55 delivered brand new. The second hand one was £35 "with a small mark" so adding postage and protection on top I may as well go new for the a little bit more.

There are some right knobbers on Vinted. Some people just don’t like to be told no.

Lol love the phrase "knobbers"

FiloPasty · 03/08/2024 15:45

I usually reply that I don’t discount for the first few days.
if someone really wants it they’ll pay for it.
or I counter offer and don’t get into any discussion and ignore.

@DysonSphere just nosy curious! How damaged was the dress you received?

Stitching in left side seam was torn from the arm hole down to waist.

Stitching on right side seam torn from top of zipper to armhole.

Around a 4 inch tear in left front seam.

Left and Right back seams tearing.

Small stain on front looks like lipstick.

Fabric been through the mill, mottled in places and colour faded. It looks like it was either a former display piece that was kicked around on the sewing floor or whoever had it was too big for it and put pressure on the seams and then washed it in the washing machine with a load of rough jeans on maximum spin.

Unfortunately the fabric has no stretch and is quite delicate now, so although I restitched the seams they will probably tear again at some point. The stain isn't going anywhere but it's small enough not to notice.

But I don't care I love it!😁 I would have gladly paid the seller more if she had asked. For me it's a great bargain. I had my eye on it for ages but broke so couldn't afford it. Bit of sewing and no one is bothered except me and the fit and shape suits me so well!

And that's why I prefer Vinted. Ebay used to be like that, personal. But now it's homogenised to the point of being margarine. I can't remember the last time I got a real bargain on it.

ABirdsEyeView · 03/08/2024 16:22

I don't think it's necessarily optimistic to expect the asking price, if your item is fairly priced. I've paid 'full price' for loads of things - I consider whether I think it's worth what's being asked and buy (or not) accordingly.

This cheeky fucker man doesn't have a right to buy your items - they are yours to sell or not, as you see fit. Sometimes the hassle of bagging an item up and taking it up the post office, isn't worth the puddling amount someone offers.

mostlylovinglife · 03/08/2024 16:42

@DysonSphere ah so glad it was salvageable and you were happy!
