Can you demand a GP surgery see you sooner than 2 weeks ?

I had am MRI last week and They've sent me a text

'Could you please book a routine appointment to discuss MRI scan results'

But they don't an appointment for 2 weeks so I've got tl worry for 2 weeks and there could be something seriously wrong ! Why make me wait 2 weeks to give me results??

I've looked on my NHS app no results are showing

I think its cruel to cause someone anxiety like this

Hospital found a tumour in my head 28th May from a CT scan. I jumped through hoops and got lucky to get an MRI cancellation appt for another scan. My follow up consultant appointment is 6 weeks later! Now 5 weeks in and the wait has been horrendous in terms of anxiety and stress and putting any summer plans with my kids on hold as no idea what the results will determine. Am I fine and just something they’ll monitor annually or are they going to tell me I need brain surgery or am about to expire?! It’s been hell, so I really hope the 2 weeks goes fast and you get good news. The waiting times on these things are not good for anyone.

Thanks again everyone
I tried contacting doctors today and looking on my.app but due to the worldwide outage today it was not possible to get Any appointments or access my NHS app
It's like I have something looking and some people's experiences on this app is not filling me with positivity. I hope its not a tumour I couldn't deal with that
I've always had health anxiety but it calmed down now it's at it highest level !!!

My experience has been the Dr's have contacted me and arranged my appointment when my scan results need action. And it's been quick, before I've had any letters etc..
I hope the non-urgency from.your Dr's is because there is little concern.

Pussycat22 · 19/07/2024 23:01

The OPs are right,if you were going to expire very soon, you would be called in early to discuss your tests. I had similar and there was very little wrong. Take care x

TreacleMoon · 19/07/2024 23:40

Try not to worry, our surgery usually says a 'routine appointment' when it's nothing serious, but like you, I've worried myself sick over these type of messages in the past for myself and my family (I care for a young person with complex needs) but thankfully the issues were not anything that couldn't be remedied.
I am sure (and would expect) if it were a serious matter, they would call you.

spikeandbuffy · 19/07/2024 23:52

They let you know if it's serious
I've had bloods done and a call a few hours later, an MRI done and operated on the next day

The last times I've been asked to make an appointment was
Blood results - low vitamin D
CT scan of my kidneys - fine but we found a random cyst on your ovary

If it was anything serious, they'd have you in straight away, or ring you and tell you to go to hospital.

Hi, I work in a GP surgery and we have to inform lots of patients to book a routine call with GP to discuss results, in my Practice, if it was something urgent/bad news etc, the GP will make the call themselves and would not make you wait 2weeks for this. 'Routine' is generally just a follow up to go over everything in-depth with the patient so they understand the results fully. However, when we inform patients to make the routine call, the GP will always make a note for us to tell the patient 'nothing worrying/sinister, just want to explain the results in more detail' which hugely reassures the patients and they are happy to wait for the routine call. Its a pity your GP surgery doesnt do this also. I hope you are able to settle with the fact your call is classed as routine & that the call brings you good news.
Also, recently a family member had an MRI scan, told generally these can take a couples weeks for results but got a call the next day to say they had detected a small stroke had taken place. As this was classed as urgent, the consultant rang family member themselves.
I believe/hope since your message says routine and you werent contacted directly by a GP, this will mean good news for you 💫

PeloMom · 20/07/2024 00:20

If there was something worrying they’d fit you right away. So don’t worry

Shakespeareandi · 20/07/2024 00:26

My OH had an MRI scan last week. He was told that, unless suspected cancer, it would be 2 weeks before anyone could even look at it due to lack of staff.

Rottweilermummy · 20/07/2024 05:14

I would think if it was more serious the hospital would have had you in to discuss the results. Easy to say don't worry as not in your shoes, but try to think of this as positive as less urgency, no harm in ringing and asking though, explaining you can't get an appt for 2 weeks.
It's so annoying though, not being able to get a routine appt quicker, only other way would be to try get an emergency appt.

Itsjustmeheretoday · 20/07/2024 05:21

I think if it were urgent they'd get you in immediately, try not to worry Flowers

Thanks everyone
The thing is the results are not even on my NHS app no documents showing the results or anything no notes about it
No referrals being made at all there is a reggeral left on there from ages ago for ear nose and throat when I was diagnosed with acid reflux ( constant mucus in my throat) but nothing else. Shouldn't it be in my NHS app account as it is my results and are entitled to see them?

Sometimes sometimes not. App stuff has to be manually released to the patient so they don't read stuff they shouldn't. Not everything goes automatically if from hosp vs gp. Not to mention the huge nhs crisis. If u want a copy ask for it but you may have to pay £10-15 for it

Lostsadandconfused · 20/07/2024 05:45

My DP once had some tests right before Christmas. Got a call on Christmas Eve to call the drs surgery urgently. By the time he’d called back they’d closed, for 3 days over the holiday period. When he finally got through to them after a very anxious and spoiled Christmas, they’d just needed to talk to him about a small mistake with the billing. Tests were fine.

Havinganamechange · 20/07/2024 10:53

2 weeks is perfectly reasonable given the current pressures on the NHS. There are a lot of people who can’t get to see their GP within 2 weeks and their query is urgent. Honestly I’m sorry OP but you just sounds priveledged to me. If you want a next day service, go private.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 21/07/2024 09:17

They'd call you if it was serious

asdfgasdfg · 25/07/2024 20:13

Ask for a copy of the report. Your medical records, you are entitled to them
