To ask if you've ever had a verruca spontaneously resolve after so many years?

I've had a verruca for about 9 years now. I've tried all sorts to get rid of it - apple cider vinegar, bazuka and bazuka extra strength, filing, cutting it out with razor blades and nail files, duct tape, banana peel, silver nitrate from the podiatrist, freezing from both the podiatrist and over the counter, nail polish, corn plasters, taking multivitamins inc zinc to try and boost my immune system. It's bled profusely in the past from treatments and still not gone. Nothing I do seems to get rid of it and I'm utterly fed up. I can't afford more expensive private treatment like Swift.

It seems to get to a certain point and refuse to budge any more plus it really hurts. The latest I've tried is extra strength bazuka and using professional nail clippers to cut it down as much as possible and then file it down with a foot file. It never seems to go any further than this though.

Is it possible it'll just spontaneously go at this stage? I don't know what else to try!

Yes
I had loads as a young teen.
Went in the sea on holiday and they disappeared within weeks

BlueSoul · 18/07/2024 08:48

I had several on my foot and they just disappeared after many years and many attempts to get rid of them. It was very bizarre.

LoathingMyself · 18/07/2024 08:53

Yep. Tried various home treatments to no avail, decided to move on with my life and forget about it. One day it was just gone. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hotjsaj · 18/07/2024 08:54

Why don't you guys go to the foot doctors who do the surgical removal thing?

JaneFinn · 18/07/2024 08:58

Really oddly mine went after about 25 years when I had radiotherapy following a mastectomy. Slightly drastic though.
I would suggest going to a private chiropodist where they will get rid if it. It involves making it smaller, cutting it out, tgen putting some sort of fuck off drug in the cavity. But that’ll cost about £200

Ragamuffin8 · 18/07/2024 08:59

@Rainbowsponge Lol - glad it’s not just me!

wombat15 · 18/07/2024 09:00

Your immune system can clear them. Dcs all disappeared spontaneously in a few days. I got rid of one with salicylic acid as a child but it left a scar.

CrotchetyQuaver · 18/07/2024 09:01

I had one for over 20 years, it became a lockdown project for me and I succeeded in getting rid at the second attempt. Salicylic acid patches and filing with a scholl foot roller/sander thing did the trick. But you have to carry on until it is absolutely all out. That's why mine came back.

redannie18 · 18/07/2024 09:04

YES! It was fascinating, if you're in to that sort of thing! I had it for about maybe seven years and tried ALL the treatments from getting it frozen, gouged out, all the chemist things and the mad internet things like duct taping banana skins on etc etc. In the end it just disappeared almost overnight and left a big crater on the sole of my foot, but no evidence of the verruca at all (and it was a BEAST). Foot went back to being totally normal.

longdistanceclaraclara · 18/07/2024 09:05

Yes I had one for 15 years tried all sorts on it in the beginning and then one day on holiday I noticed it had completley gone.

Tessiebeare · 18/07/2024 09:06

I’ve had a verruca on and off for 25 years. I’ve tried everything over the years to get it to go but the only thing that’s ever shifted it was two beach holidays where it went and stayed away for about 2 years each time but came back again in the same place after going to the local swimming pool again.

eggandonion · 18/07/2024 09:08

My daughter used pickles ointment after months of treatment. She had mosaic verrucas.
The ointment seemed to help but getting the hpv jab which was then new seemed to finish them off.

I’d really recommend going to a podiatrist and getting a weekly treatment of nitrous oxide. This was the only thing that worked on my 9 year old daughter. They do an initial consultation first. I think we were paying around £40 every week, one week was free but after a month or so all verrucas completely disappeared.

We have not had to bother with any creams or treatments following the podiatrist sessions.

Ragwort · 18/07/2024 09:13

Yes - trued all the usual 'home' treatments, saw a podiatrist etc but nothing changed (tbh it never hurt or caused pain just looked unsightly) but after about ten years it just disappeared.... no idea how !

Creamnose · 18/07/2024 09:15

When DS had one I asked GP (was there for something else) what the current recommended treatment was. He said leave it alone, it will eventually go on its own and he'll have immunity. It did and he's never had another in nearly 20 years, despite being a very regular swimmer.

EatTheGnome · 18/07/2024 09:15

I tried loads and stuck woth duct tape. Keeping the same piece as long as possible. You really have to stick with it because it will work, it might take ages though but you have to really stick with it and not decide that it isnt working and change methods.

YellowSunRays · 18/07/2024 09:17

Had one for years and had tried everything with no success, then read a thread on here about using nail varnish. Worked immediately- no sign at all of it now even though previous treatments just seemed to make it larger and left a big crater on my foot.

PeriIsKickingMyButt · 18/07/2024 09:17

Yes. They are caused by a virus and your body can eradicate the virus eventually. I had one foot completely covered with them and after quite a few years they just all vanished pretty much overnight.

PregnantWithHorrors · 18/07/2024 09:21

I had one verruca that went away by itself as a kid. It's never happened as an adult.

The thing that's worked for me is matches. Light one, blow out, straight into the verruca or wart. Mine have always gone away with that since I started trying.

HangryHandful · 18/07/2024 09:21

I had one single massive verruca for years as a teen and I got it regularly frozen by a nurse at my GP surgery for a very long time and she’d scrape it and eventually I couldn’t be bothered anymore I stopped. The only different thing I did was wear socks less at home - tried to air it out. It also miraculously vanished shortly after that.

Greydogs123 · 18/07/2024 09:21

Yes, I have. I had one for 20 years, actually thought it was a corn for a long time as it never hurt or changed. Went to a chiropodist a couple of years ago as it had started hurting a bit. He said it was a verruca, filed it down and said to use bazuka stuff. I didn’t get round to the bazuka stuff and then noticed after a week it had completely gone!

DrJump · 18/07/2024 09:22

I'm having mine surgical removed. It's just in his office.

SayDoWhatNow · 18/07/2024 09:24

Weirdly yes - had a stubborn one on my foot for years. It disappeared when I was pregnant and so far has never come back.

Blingismything · 18/07/2024 09:25

Yes I have had one that disappeared (after many years and lots of money spent trying to have it eradicated) it disappeared spontaneously after another couple of years.

A couple of years later another huge one appeared in a different place, however ACV worked, I followed the regime religiously and after a couple of months it had faded to nothing. I was amazed!

ChimneySweepLiverpool · 18/07/2024 09:25

Mine just disappeared last summer after years of trying different treatments and pain while walking
