Blinds with long chords - holiday - 2 year old

holidaya · 16/07/2024 14:54

Is there anything I can do ( except keeping an even closed eye ) on my two year old.

I arrived yesterday and didn't realise that the blinds in our holiday house have these very long chords.

I'm sure there's a simple solution I have not even thought about.

He's sleeping in bed with me but I just kept waking up all night worrying he'd got up and I didn't notice and he hurt himself.

I'm scared to go outside in the pool while he's napping now, in case he wakes up and something happens with these chords. Any ideas please ?

Can you tie them up, like use the cord to double tie them up near the top so it shortens them?

That's what we've always done, just tie them in a knot near the top?

BingoMarieHeeler · 16/07/2024 14:57

Just flip it up over the rail of the blind, so the cable is in half and the loop is too high for him to reach? Is that possible with the blind set up? Or tie a knot in it so it’s too high for him.

Underlig · 16/07/2024 14:58

Just tie them up.

coxesorangepippin · 16/07/2024 15:04

What pp said

Tie in a top knot right near the ceiling

LoveSandbanks · 16/07/2024 15:04

If you’re in the uk, this is a massive health and safety violation. And should be reported. I’ve worked in window stylings and suppliers must fit cleats for the cords when fitting. In properties that are open to the public again cords absolutely must have cleats for the cords to be tied up

Another vote for tying them up!

Elsbetka · 16/07/2024 15:05

Can you get any drawing pins?

maudelovesharold · 16/07/2024 15:09

I’d be more worried about the pool than cords, tbh. Just tie them up.

PCBabies · 16/07/2024 15:09

Tie them up high with rubber bands.

givemushypeasachance · 16/07/2024 15:10

Just tie it up on itself, or use a hair tie to bundle it up out of reach, or loop over a curtain rail - lots of options. But also flag with the property owner it's a hazard.

Createausername1970 · 16/07/2024 15:10

Tie them up.

Sellotape them to the window

Drape them over the top fixings

Open the window, dangle them outside, shut the window.

🤣🤣 sorry but you had to start a thread about this?! I am shocked. Clip them up, tie them, wrap them round a curtain pole, hook them onto a cupboard or whatever is next to them. So many solutions.

AzureAnt · 16/07/2024 15:16

Can you tuck them right it at the top?

Are you in uk? Are you sure that there are not breaks in them?

Ilovemyshed · 16/07/2024 15:28

Tie them up. Then report to owners or booking company for H&S violation.

Not difficult.

It genuinely beggars belief!!!

RookieMa · 16/07/2024 15:29

You shouldn't go in the pool while he's napping

You honestly never know what's going to happen

Can you keep the blinds pulled up and stick the cords out of reach

Use a hair grip or something to hold them up

longdistanceclaraclara · 16/07/2024 15:31

Tie them up and don't go in the pool while he's napping. Don't they have those breaker things in? Is the pool fenced?

I'm in Italy. I've tied them up ! I hope I'll be able to untie them when I leave and won't get charged for tangling them up.

They're those little metal beaded strings.

The pool is not fenced but the doors are impossible even for an adult to open, so it's not so bad. There's no way he could unlock the door to go outside.

Sorry if this has been posted but are you sure they aren’t safety cords. We had blinds fitted and they had long cords. I was really worried but when I questioned the blind company it turns out they fall off if any weight is put on them (so not dangerous)?

endofthelinefinally · 16/07/2024 15:54

Clothes pegs or hair bobbles
