Dear MNs,

First off all i’ll delete this later today so i don’t clog up ‘AIBU’

I’m paying a lovely lady/company to make me a logo for mine and my sons little side line idea (De clutter /Tidy/ Cleans)

Could you help me /advise me on what colour the wording/text should be? Something that stands out but also complements the blue dress and gold hair/crown and broom and doesn’t clash..

I don’t think this grey/silver is right

any advise (only i’ve not got long and it may stay like this )

thank you so much :)

  1. Copyright - as above. Copyright would be a problem with a image such as this.

The rest don't matter as the copyright is the most important thing... but

  1. Serif, swirly, fonts are bad for most logos as they are difficult to read. Especially on a colour background.
  1. 'Sweeping beauty' may encourage creeps who want a "hot cleaner".

Ohh I went with this company as they look /ed amazing and so many companies have not very good images .. like grainy and just screen shot on google images

i didn’t think it would ‘scream low end ‘ and i sent pics of myself (well let company into my socials ) to see lots of my pics to make me an avatar etc!

I don’t know if the last post and paragraph/question on that post is a little jokey put down or a genuine question.. if the latter then of course i don’t want to sell myself ‘cheaply’ etc

i’m trying hard as no longer can do my main career and want and need to earn and want to leave my 2 DS’s with a project as now stage 4 ‘C’ and no treatment and cure and single mum and not even 40 .. thought i was looking professional doing it this way 😔

It wasn't jokey and I'm sorry that you are so poorly.

What i meant was you need to know your market. Are you at the Harrods end - looking to clean in places like Mayfair, offering discretion, cleaning of specialist items like Agas etc or are you more mainstream like B&M? Good quality, no frills, quick and cheerful friendly service?

Now think of their logos. Harrows is gold and green and swishy lettering. B&M is orange and blue, bold and clear. Neither is a good or bad brand. Harrows sell less at a higher price, B&M sell more to more people at a lower price.

Neither are a value judgement on the brand. I just meant your marketing needs to be clear which one you are so that you attract the right clients and convert into leads and sales. X

Dress is wayyy too similar to Disney. I know its already been said but before I'd even read the comments I looked at the picture and thought 'that's major copywrite infringement' from the pose to the colour, dress and hair style. Changing the face only will not make a difference.

godmum56 · 15/07/2024 09:50

i agree about the massive copyright issue. I do various kinds of crafting and see what other people will offer in terms of disneyesque stuff which wayyyyyy contravenes copyright, especially with the company name. Really do not do it.

Buddysbunda · 15/07/2024 09:59

Honestly you could knock up something better yourself in Canva. The knock off princess thing is pretty low rent. Go for something simple and classic.

AreolaGrande · 15/07/2024 10:00

Have to agree with the majority. This is a copyright lawsuit waiting to happen plus I would never use a company that had this kind of branding. It looks cheap and unprofessional.

FastFood · 15/07/2024 10:05

Copyright infringement put aside, it's just not great design.
It's way too complicated as a logo, and for a decluttering business, it's definitely not appropriate.
Your branding should be clean, simple and minimalist.
I'm also really not sure about your business name - it's all about you where it should actually be about the customers' outcomes of using your services.

AmelieTaylor · 15/07/2024 10:11

@CocoBellaSparkle

im so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I admire you for starting something like this.

I'm sorry to add to the bad news, but many years ago now I had a friend whose job it was to locate images used like this. Disney's legal team employ lots of people to do what she did & their legal team are a well oiled machine!

I wouldn't go there at all & id get a refund from the company you've used to do your logo. I suspect they wouldn't like their business to be reported to Disney

unfortunately I lost contact with that friend or I'd ask her to give you her opinion. But I can hear her saying 'come on, you put it on a chat site & everyone knew who the character was'

sorry x

Agapornis · 15/07/2024 10:11

Please use Canva - it's free. Make something nice, then get the free Pro trial to get a hi-resolution image.

Are you in touch with some cancer charities/support groups to help you and your sons out? It takes time to get a solid client base and earn enough from it, and you may not have enough time.

Sillystrumpet · 15/07/2024 10:13

Honesty I’d be less stressed about the design and more it’s just not great really, very childish , Disney is aimed at kids, not adults. Why leverage it for this business. I’d aim for something very grown up,

declutter devils, dirt demons that sort of thing, or even something like home services,

Catza · 15/07/2024 10:15

OP, this is not a logo. Not even close. The logo has to work at any size on any product. The company should have delivered multiple preliminary sketches for approval, they should have included a limited number of corrections as part of their initial fees. The final deliverables should have been a fully editable svg file.
The font is not going to work at a small scale, the image is blatant copyright infringement and, judging by the communications of the company, they have no clue what they are doing.
I would cut your losses at this point and go elsewhere.

TamarasCDScrunchie · 15/07/2024 10:16

Can you get the designer to do some actual work? So many things they can EASILY do…

  1. change colour of dress and add pinafore
  2. add marigolds
  3. hold a bottle of cleaning spray
  4. change colour of hair
  5. change to a swiffer mop or a mop with bucket or vacuum cleaner
Scissorsisters · 15/07/2024 10:23

Agree with others about Disney copyright.

It also is bothering me that you've muddled up the princesses' identities and it makes your logo/business name less memorable. Because:

It's Cinderella who is usually depicted with a broom.
Cinderella whose Disney dress colour is blue.
Although Sleeping Beauty did also wear blue, she is usually depicted in pink.

thatstakingalongtimetoboil · 15/07/2024 10:23

Agree with others. You can use canva and do a design yourself. Use your name not a silly pun. It will look much better. Canva is free to use. You can the business cards from there it's not expensive.

Mitsky · 15/07/2024 10:25

I’ll reply as if an agency had sent this to me, which isn’t a reflection of you but of their shoddy work

  • The font is difficult to read
  • scrap the woman, I don’t want to be fighting the most famously litigious brand Disney on image copyright. If you want a person in it can they create an outline line drawing instead that is more logo like and simpler
  • It looks like they done what you’ve asked rather than offering you creative consultancy, you are absolutely entitled to push back on them
Buddysbunda · 15/07/2024 10:26

Honestly go on Canva and play around. They have load of logo templates. Type cleaning into the elements sections and you will get mops, brushes, bubbles, everything you can think of. If you are wedded to the name a crown or maybe a castle(to represent people's homes) would be better than an entire princess, you'll get loads of them on Canva to choose from.

Spend 20mins doing that and I guarantee you wonder what on earth this company is charging you for. Their 'logo' is awful, the font is awful. If you don't want to make it yourself ditch them and pay someone else.

MrHarleyQuin · 15/07/2024 10:29

What everyone said, plus I think the name is tacky also - what has beauty got to do with cleaning?

TingeOGinge · 15/07/2024 10:31

OP

I play around with logo design and am happy to throw you some things together, for free x

Coconutter24 · 15/07/2024 10:33

“thought i was looking professional doing it this way 😔”

Tbh I can see what you’ve tried to do but it just looks lazy. You’d be better turning yourself into the cartoon character or not using a character at all. Logos need to be simple. A quick google and there’s loads of ‘sweeping beauty’ cleaning companies…. What makes yours stand out from them? I do like the play on words but it’s obviously been done to death

UpThereForThinkingDownThereForDancing · 15/07/2024 10:33

Don't be disheartened op.

I agree with pp, this logo is a mistake for reasons given.
But all you need is something simple and clear.

A name that's about you and your DC (so it's not just a play on a Disney name but is play on your shared name instead I.e
Clarke's cleaning cavalry

If you Google 'cleaning company logo' most are simple and conjure images of fresh clean homes, not an hourglass figured princess. I think that's a good idea, especially if your DC continue this on without you.

So sorry to hear you are not well and having to plan for life beyond your prognosis this way...

But take heart, you clearly have courage and a good idea, and there are useful images (better suited to the task than these people came up with) you can get for free as pp said.

Rosebud21 · 15/07/2024 10:33

I like the company name, but not the Disney Princess thing, perhaps use a real person/your image instead of this (copyrighted nightmare image)

stormywhethers321 · 15/07/2024 10:34

OP, I will tell you a story about one of my favorite indie perfume houses.

It used to be called Black Baccara, until Baccarat, the crystal company, threatened legal action. Now, a black baccara is a type of rose. It is very much its own thing, and separate from Baccarat. Black Baccara had existed for years. Indie perfumes have this while community surrounding them, and lots people tried to help.

None of that mattered. Baccarat is a huge business and it would have been no problem whatsoever for them to bankrupt this small business. Even if they didn't have a leg to stand on, they had the resources to tie BB up in court indefinitely until the owner ran out of money.

In the end, Black Baccara had to completely rebrand and change their name at their own expense, sacrificing years of reputation.

Do not do this to yourself. It will not go well. The time to make changes is now, before the business is already established and you risk losing an existing customer base.

yellowsmileyface · 15/07/2024 10:36

I think you're well within your rights to ask for a refund, as this logo just isn't usable. Beyond the copyright issues, it doesn't look professional.

Something simpler and more minimalistic would be way better, especially for a tidying up / decluttering service.

UpThereForThinkingDownThereForDancing · 15/07/2024 10:37

I imagine this thread is hard to read op...
