To feel strange and upset about this

I'm a single mum who called out a gas engineer because my radiator was leaking. When he arrived and I told him the radiator was in the bedroom he was really weird, he followed me upstairs and loitered in the doorway as though he didn't want to go into the room. He then suggested that I purchase a spray from Amazon and spray it onto the leak. He then bolted downstairs saying he didn't charge a call out. I feel really upset now as I don't know what I did wrong? I could have understood if I was wearing a negligee but I had jeans and sweatshirt on😂

Was your vibrator out?

TheQuickCat · 10/07/2024 18:59

All these innuendos and reasonable suggestions and my fist thought was ghost!

Maybe he saw something you didn't.

ginasevern house definitely has a ghost in it. There's no other explanation.

But true. If you offer a tradesman a cuppa and he says no, it's cos he doesnt trust your cleanliness.

We never got as far as tea😂

He has probably watched too many 70's porn movies. Lonely housewife seducing plumber was a staple plot line.

Why is it relevant that you're a single mum? Did you tell him that?

To get the point over there was no husband in the house at the time.

Why do people go on threads just to have a go about stupid things???

TwinCheeks · 10/07/2024 19:03

Did you remark on his large tool?!

No it was in! Maybe he heard it buzzing😂🤣

Hr was testing you to see if you’d run after him. Sorry OP, you failed.

No but now you come to mention it he did have a huge bag...

This thread is hilarious OP. Please don’t feel upset tradesmen are often weird. I am now a bit worried about the joiner I have coming round tomorrow about my downstairs floorboards. My DH won’t be here. @MavisPennies that’s so funny! I think a woman on MN did answer the door with a boob hanging out. Maybe all tradesmen should wear body cams for their own protection.

Very strange to get the tools off the van, come in, take a look then run and not charge a penny. My money is on he couldnt be arsed to drain the whole system down as it takes ages. Probably thought it was just a quick tighten up job, so he made his excuse about some spray and legged it. Either that or he was creeped out by something.

I've actually just had a text from a friend who said he left someone with a half finished bathroom!! The plot thickens!

That is strange! Sounds like you had a lucky escape.

13Bastards · 10/07/2024 21:07

Do you have any pets? I have seen plenty of tradespeople terrified of pet cats, dogs, rats, snakes etc.

No I don't have any pets.

Sounds odd. If they're worried about being accused of something inappropriate, you'd think they'd check whether you'd be home alone or not before agreeing to come and look at the job. Otherwise, surely they're just wasting time and petrol driving out to your house then leaving a minute later!

We had a pipe leak under the bath. The plumber was very nice and I was just about to leave him to it when he got very agitated and said he had to leave and couldn't do the job. He picked his bag up and ran- literally- downstairs with me left baffled. I followed him and he was standing outside looking like he was 'taking a moment'. I asked if he was ok and he said 'Sorry. A cat nearly came in the bathroom. I saw it on the landing and it looked at me. I'm terrified of them. I can't come back in. I just can't.'
I just said that was fine.

Another plumber. When our kitchen was being done, the builder had a plumber he used and he turned up to connect the sink so we had water in the kitchen. 20 minutes later I went in to see how he was getting on and there was only the joiner who looked uncomfortable. I asked where he was and he said 'He's gone. Went about 10 minutes ago.'
I said (naively) 'Oh is it done already?'
Joiner 'I don't think so. He just said he couldn't stay and left.'
So, I was in the room next door and he didn't even tell me, just drank the tea, ate all the biscuits and left without doing the job, leaving the joiner to tell me.
Builder followed it up, apparently he'd 'had a hard day'.

Another plumber. We had a new kitchen tap fitted when we first moved in, and a bathroom sink (which seemed loose) attached more firmly to the wall. Within 15 minutes of him leaving, the sink fell off the wall and the kitchen tap fell to bits. Water everywhere. I had to turn the water off. His explanation was, none of it was his fault, the bathroom sink was 'too heavy' and the kitchen tap 'had a part missing from the box'. Well why didn't he tell us either of those things? Instead he just did a botched job, took the money and left.

Or he doesn’t like tea

I actually don't feel too bad after reading that! They're obviously a strange bunch😂

I really wasn't having a go, I was genuinely curious as to why it was relevant. I'm sorry for offending anyone.
