To feel strange and upset about this

I'm a single mum who called out a gas engineer because my radiator was leaking. When he arrived and I told him the radiator was in the bedroom he was really weird, he followed me upstairs and loitered in the doorway as though he didn't want to go into the room. He then suggested that I purchase a spray from Amazon and spray it onto the leak. He then bolted downstairs saying he didn't charge a call out. I feel really upset now as I don't know what I did wrong? I could have understood if I was wearing a negligee but I had jeans and sweatshirt on😂

A spray wont do anything to a radiator leak.

Perhaps he'd just had a message about a more lucrative job. Or realised it was a bigger job than first thought. Whereabouts is the leak?

Just below where it turns off, it's like a little hole in the pipe. I think the spray would work but it was the way he bolted downstairs that puzzled me.

I think he didn't want to be in your house alone with just you there , I've had a plumber like that , he won't come out to the house if you are a woman on your own

Yes I did wonder if maybe someone has accused him of something or he knows someone who's been accused

Surely loads of plumbers work consists of a woman alone in the house. It can't be that scary!

DH recently had a man round to fit a new window. A date for fitting was scheduled but the window man later rescheduled it because I was going to be on my own that day, he told DH he'd come back when he was at home. I think for him it was a cultural thing.

dottiehens · 10/07/2024 18:00

I heard of some guy who thought the lady of the house was trying to seduce him. Apparently, she said there is a lot to do in the upstairs bedroom. 🤣 I wondered what the truth was? Anyway, good luck with the leak.

HollyKnight · 10/07/2024 18:06

I'm guessing he didn't feel comfortable being alone with you.

Or he thought you needed a plumber rather than a gas engineer to fix a radiator.

It's not fear he does it so that he can't be accused of anything but he did tell me that he won't attend if I'm on my own when I called him

User628291938949 · 10/07/2024 18:19

It's defo him, not you 🤣

RandomUsernameHere · 10/07/2024 18:21

Agree it's him not you! Most houses have radiators in the bedrooms so I can't see why he would be surprised at having to go in there.

gardenmusic · 10/07/2024 18:21

I had a weird man when I tried to return a black sparkly chiffon-ey blouse.
I put it on the counter, and he pushed it back
'We don't exchange underwear' He was very embarrassed, red and sweaty.
'It's not, it's a blouse - a shirt'
'Well we don't exchange underwear'
'It's a shirt!' It was, and clearly so, no room for confusion
This went on for some time.
I had to find a female shop assistant to return it.

fatphalange · 10/07/2024 18:39

Maybe he had the shits and just wanted to get out of there 🤷‍♀️

How very strange! Maybe he misread something into you wanting him to work on your pussy flap? 🤷🤣

😂😂😂

Ah, that was my big mistake. I did ask him if he wanted to see my lovely ginger pussy.

Opinionwontchangeluv · 10/07/2024 18:46

Maybe he been accused of something before or he needed to poop

Tinkerbellflowers · 10/07/2024 18:46

Was he definitely the gas engineer? Could he have been knocking on your door for another reason, and you just assumed he was the gas engineer?

TwinCheeks · 10/07/2024 18:49

Tradesmen would only run if the house was a smelly pigsty, or if he felt he was being propositioned.

I can understand why some men would want to avoid working in a house with only one woman present. In any case presumably the radiator leaks water and not gas so you probably need a plumber instead of a gas engineer.

Neither of those but it will be smelly if the carpet starts to rot😂

But true. If you offer a tradesman a cuppa and he says no, it's cos he doesnt trust your cleanliness.

Yes, sorry I did say in another reply he's a gas engineer/plumber who installs bathrooms etc.
