To let him go to theme park?

Ds was off school with a headache on Monday, no temperature. Felt well enough to go to school yesterday. But last night before bed temp was 37.7, this morning on waking it is 37 but expect it to increase when he gets moving.

Dilemma is, ds is supposed to be going to a theme park with school today. Not expected home until 7.30pm. He's 15 years old so I can trust him to take paracetamol and ibuprofen responsibly. He's desperate to go - would you let him with a low fever?

Aibu - keep him in bed
Ainbu - let him go!

If he's been off school and still has a fever then no I wouldn't.

FawnFrenchieMum · 10/07/2024 07:01

Yes, if he’s generally well in himself. Although if he’s well im not sure I’d be checking his temp.

FudgeSundae · 10/07/2024 07:03

I wouldn’t count anything below 38 as a fever personally. If he’s 37 this morning that’s normal!

llamajohn · 10/07/2024 07:04

He isn't even ill .. he went to school yesterday, he can go.

He was at school yesterday ... Je hasn't got a fever ...

foothandmouth · 10/07/2024 07:05

Absolutely if he's will in himself. Probably just got a mild virus.

Willmafrockfit · 10/07/2024 07:05

let him go, he will rally round

FantasticFox27 · 10/07/2024 07:07

He took his temp last night as he had a headache. Today seems he has a headache but it's minor at the moment

I’d let him go, he’s 15, not 5 and easily he could really round and if not at that’l age they can get on with it far better than adults

Cheepcheepcheep · 10/07/2024 07:09

I’d have been on the fence if he hadn’t been to school yesterday, but if you’d send him in today I don’t think you can tell him he can’t go just because today is more fun that sitting at a desk 😁

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 10/07/2024 07:10

37.5c is the upper end of the range for a normal temperature so a one off reading of 37.7c is nothing I’d get worked up about.

Id definitely let him go on the trip today if he wants to (especially since he felt well enough to go to school yesterday) with 2 lots of 2 tablets cut from a strip of paracetamol and one of ibuprofen and a note about the times he can take them so he has them if he starts feeling off colour again.

FleetwoodMacAttack · 10/07/2024 07:10

He’s got a regular temp, let him go!!

mitogoshi · 10/07/2024 07:10

2 paracetamol and off he goes, old enough to decide for himself. I don't feel great myself but I'm off to work, since when did we start staying at home for minor self limiting illnesses? Oh that would be 2020!

Littletreefrog · 10/07/2024 07:22

Yes I would let him go on the trip because I wouldn't have kept him off school at 15 years old with a headache. Paracetamol and get in with it. Do you have the day off work when you have a headache?

Homesweethome23 · 10/07/2024 07:47

Any thing over 38 I count as a temp so I would let him go.

itsgettingweird · 10/07/2024 07:52

I would because he went to school yesterday.

However that would be on the proviso he understands that if he does start to feel worse during the day he's stuck with the painkillers he's got and stuck there!

Mrsjayy · 10/07/2024 07:55

37 Isnt a fever its normal temperature he is feeling a bit off but he's well enough to go to school let him take paracetamol and go, he's 15 old enough to manage a mild illness.

fieldsofbutterflies · 10/07/2024 07:58

He doesn't even have a temperature - he's fine and went to school yesterday.

Why on earth wouldn't you send him? Confused

Greenlittecat · 10/07/2024 08:01

I would let him go.

Maybe check his temp just before he's due to leave for your own peace of mind but as he was in school yesterday I think it's fine xx

KreedKafer · 10/07/2024 08:04

He doesn’t have a temperature. He didn’t have one when you took it yesterday either; 37.7 really isn’t a fever. He went to school yesterday. And he’s 15 ffs. Of course he can go to a theme park.

Would you usually take your teenager’s temperature every time they had a headache?! Sounds a bit OTT. Pretty sure most 15-year-olds just ask where the paracetamol is and sort themselves out.

Do people routinely check their offspring temp when they just have a headache? Confused Why?

LeonoraFlorence · 10/07/2024 08:07

I’d give him paracetamol, take plenty of water and make sure he’s had something for breakfast. Is it far if you had to collect him?

I didn't take temps pasy toddlerhood I feel of the forehead and a spoon of calool after that was fine ! I never called a temp a fever either.

Edingril · 10/07/2024 08:11

If he was OK in himself then I see no issues going

I certainly don't unless they're very poorly.

If it was a 15 yo with a headache and maybe feeling a bit ill but otherwise fin, they'd take paracetamol/ibuprofen regardless of temperature, surely?

Only if they were obviously ill/sweaty/lethargic etc would I think about taking a temp.
