So, all previous posters, please explain to me, why exactly it is such a sin, and why it makes me automatically, so very very ignorant ?

morningpaper · 11/04/2008 21:00

The Daily Mail is awful because it is anti-women, xenophobic, and convinces its readers that we live in a terrible country which is going down the pan

expatinscotland · 11/04/2008 21:01

it also prints falsehoods.

morningpaper · 11/04/2008 21:04

"Daily Mail Today's Debate: Should we scrap the welfare system and simply pay-as-you-go for services?"

(P.S. As a Guardian-reader can I point out that the great thing about the Debate of the Day is that throughout the posters have spelt it "Welfair")

Oblomov · 11/04/2008 21:10

Morningpaper, o.k. that is me screwed then. I am not "anti-women, xenophobic", but I do think that GB , well the world actually is
"going down the pan "
Oh dear, does this make me a Dm'er ?
I am not sure I can cope with the stigma.

Boco · 11/04/2008 21:12

The DM seems a little middle of the road compared to some of the 'lets wash the scum off the streets' threads today.

Alarming.

It's as if everyone glaring at their reflections with freshly mowed mohicans screeching 'YOU LOOKING AT ME?' salivating over the latest sky news flash and preparing their lethal injections.

expatinscotland · 11/04/2008 21:13

Tommorow's DM Debate:

Dickensian Britain - Were They Onto Something?

Ooops. That won't work. It implies one is familiar with Charles Dickens' work.

annoyingdevil · 11/04/2008 21:14

People on MN are so quick to jump upon any thread that is in any way judgemental. Yet here you are judging anyone who reads the DM. FWIW I agree that it's mysoginistic, xenophobic and the rest, but if I chose to read it for some of the features (which are generally a better standard of journalism than the average woman's mag) then it doesn't make me any of those things

expatinscotland · 11/04/2008 21:14

The thread that's really going to haunt me tonight as I try to sleep is the one about the 'love scene' in a book involving a woman inserting her clitoris into a man's yin yang.

Mhamai · 11/04/2008 21:16

Expat, it's symbollickle!

Oblomov · 11/04/2008 21:17

Expat, yes thats me out. Charles Dickens ?
oooh ? Never herd of im ?

expatinscotland · 11/04/2008 21:18

Ever heard of some wifey putting her clit up a man's willy, Ob?

I tell you which one I find more haunting . . . .

morningpaper · 11/04/2008 21:19

I know what you mean expat, I sort of wish I hadn't opened that thread....

p.s. Really, the world's isn't going down the pan

expatinscotland · 11/04/2008 21:19

No, it's not going down the pan yet.

It's just circling the bowl .

Mhamai · 11/04/2008 21:22

Well in keeping with the books theme, don't you mean down the Panino?

Oblomov · 11/04/2008 21:30

No that neiver Exapt. God I am so ignorant and uneducated. I now noffink..
Not about the likes of clits up willys anyway. Never lived, I tell ya.

2GIRLS · 13/04/2008 11:29

Isn't it funny that all that people that hate hate hate the DM and slag off the people that might read it, knows exactly what the DM says and what it's got in it.

Are you reading it, just to be able to say 'that is so crap'?

I don't like quite a few newspapers but I couldn't tell you what they say today or who their columnists are because I don't buy them or read them or go on their website.

2GIRLS · 13/04/2008 11:32

So what newspaper are we allowed to read then?

zippitippitoes · 13/04/2008 11:36

because there are daily mail pet subjects which they have been banging on about for years and because people quote from the paper and from the tenor of the quote you can bett it is the daily mail

tho the express is pretty poor too

there arent independent papers as such so they refelct to a large extent a certain set of values so you are unlikely to read a paper and notr subscribe to the views

unless you read several and claim that you are getting a broad range o fopinion

opinion is what you get in a newspaper as there is no such thing as unbiassed new coverage in any media it is reported by humans
