Why can't people just be nice?
When did being 'nice' become such a terrible trait to have?
Ok, it's not quite as easy to show your wit and intelligence in a 'nice' post, much easier to slag people off and use long words in defamatory posts than 'nice' ones from what I can see, but FGS!

im nice almost infallibly

i have to have the occasional not nice one just to highlight my general niceness and reasonableness

CountessDracula · 11/04/2008 10:58

defamatory posts?? Where?

OP posts:
MadameCh0let · 11/04/2008 11:03

Absolutely. I read the fekking Daily Mail and I'm appalled by a few of the threads on here.

I am in favour of genetic research and I don't hate foreigners, I'm not obsessed with immigrants, and I don't begrude people on benefits fresh air!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously it is mumsnet that is bad for the national psyche.

SoMuchToBits · 11/04/2008 11:03

I have not bothered posting on any of these threads, instead I have been having a nice, cosy time chatting to people about Playmobil.

Agree with you about not just being able to be nice, though. Everyone these days seems to think you need to be full of problems and angst or else you are "boring".

lacarte · 11/04/2008 11:06

yes, it's very depressing. I just wanted to find out about potty training.

VictorianSqualor · 11/04/2008 11:07

I leaving all threads that aren't about fairyflys ex's poetry.
It's the only thread worth reading today.

oh you're well known for it, fio.

jesuswhatnext · 11/04/2008 11:25

i think this will be my last post for a while, i joined mumsnet in the hope of chatting to people with a sense of humour, a bit of life knowledge, you know the type of stuff i mean, i was looking forward to new conversations as i was concerned i was starting to live a 'blinkered existance'

the last few days on here have been like reading a bnp leaflet

so, i'm off to lunch with my rl lady friends, who are tolerant, kind, clever, socially aware and at least know how to laugh!

iloatheironing · 11/04/2008 11:26

Before I joined mn I never realised that the daily mail was anything more than a newspaper all of which are expressing an opinion which you may or may not agree with. I also didn't know that fruitshoot was the work of the devil (still not clear why though!) ditto Macdonalds, Greggs, anything nestle, formula feeding, anything not organic, free range, ethically produced and definately anything from China.

MascaraOHara · 11/04/2008 11:32

I keep saying on nearly every thread over the last few days that MN is just weird at the moment. I keep thinking about actually doing some proper work and some RL.

stleger · 11/04/2008 11:36

Was there a free Hello in the Mail last week in England? Did you get that Madame C?

MascaraOHara · 11/04/2008 11:40

"see i really hate all that 'i blame mothercare' chat, it's so snooty. but there definitely are some right thicko posters here at the moment...
"

Aitch!

That aside, I consider myself an Oldie here and I really don't think MN has dumbed down. I think there have always been these weird cycles but that they are just more frequent these days. But then MN is much bigger than it used to be.

It has changed, considerably but I don't think it has 'dumbed down'

btw I've never read the DM, what's it like?

BetteNoir · 11/04/2008 11:40

It feels a bit like a lot of weird people have invaded.
I'm sure they have always been here, but perhaps they are just posting more lately.

zippitippitoes · 11/04/2008 11:41

rofl at right thicko posters here at themoment

zippitippitoes · 11/04/2008 11:42

moh havent you been listening

the dm is like mn

MascaraOHara · 11/04/2008 11:45

DM is like crack?

AitchTwoOh · 11/04/2008 11:48

oh yes, the website is. you go on it to look for pictures of jessica alba's baby and all of a sudden you're staring up at britney spears' pantiliner. and then the next thing and the next, it's amazing. i defy anyone to spend less than fifteen mins on the DM site.

i hope you're right, MoH, that would be good. that OP CD linked to was profoundly depressing for so many reasons...

MascaraOHara · 11/04/2008 11:51

Lol, I just went and read the first handful of posts. It past me by.

I must admit I find less and less threads in Active convos that I feel linclined to click on..

..yet still I'm here.

Do you have to hit rock bottom before I can get free?

MascaraOHara · 11/04/2008 11:52

that should read "do I have to.."

zippitippitoes · 11/04/2008 11:53

well in the foyer of the hotel california i think the daily mnail is othe only paper available today
