Is he inconsiderate & tight?

Got back from 2 holiday with my children(lm a single parent). My boyfriend picked me up in my car from the airport and parked 15-20 minute walk from terminal to avoid parking charges.

Was he inconsiderate not to even have some milk in the fridge for a cuppa after travelling all day? I had to stop and buy stuff at shop on way home. I'm annoyed as l would have milk bought and few bits for sandwich if other way around. We do not live together. I think he is a tight ass. Thoughts please, thanks.

I honestly think this comes under the heading of "just didn't think of it". Had it occured to him, maybe he would have. The parking charge thing is extortionate at airports but yes I'd be a little bit peeved I'll admit.

Catza · 09/07/2024 11:02

To be perfectly honest, I have never bought anyone anything when picking them up from the airport. We also always park a little way off to avoid extortionate parking charges.
I live with my partner and, a lot of the time, I have an empty fridge when he comes back from being away as I do very little cooking for myself when alone in the house. I always think we can just get a takeaway and then sort out the shopping the next morning. So… it’s different for every family and probably best not to assume someone’s character is flawed just because they don’t do the same thing you would.

MidnightPatrol · 09/07/2024 11:04

YABU.

He came and picked you up from the airport. That was nice of him.

I think you are looking for the negatives rather than appreciating the positives.

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/07/2024 11:06

If you wanted milk you should have asked him to get you some. He’s a boyfriend you don’t live with, he did you a favour. Be specific about your expectations so people don’t fail tests they don’t know you’ve set them.

loropianalover · 09/07/2024 11:08

YABU. Some people just don’t think of things like this. It’s frustrating when you know you would have thought of it for him but you can’t assume.

Did you really expect that he would do it? Why didn’t you ask?

Yeah this

It IS annoying as I am like you and would just do it
but lots of people won’t.

you will have to spell it out / ask for these sorts of things

rookiemere · 09/07/2024 11:10

Wow !
He picked you up from the airport and you're quibbling about the car park he used and the fact he didn't buy you milk. He's not the issue from where I'm sitting.
How far away is the airport?

I would never have thought to pick up milk

Yorkshirewithlove · 09/07/2024 11:12

I did ask if he thought of getting milk and he said he did but didn't get some.

If l had left cash with him before l left, then he would have. He would not spend his own money without being asked specifically.

Why didn't you book a food delivery to arrive when you got home?

Or even easier, stop assuming he knows what you want. 'Hi DX, please can you get me a pint of milk and a loaf of bread on your way to the airport. Thanks'

Appleblum · 09/07/2024 11:14

He went to pick you up from the airport, which is usually a long drive from anywhere!

And it wouldn't occur to me to buy milk for someone else's house to be honest.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 09/07/2024 11:18

Weird isn't it, how different people are. I'd always ask a partner or my parents if they want anything for their return - it's usually fresh milk and bread and it's always done for me too

Inspireme2 · 09/07/2024 11:21

I find airport chargers a huge waste so fair enough.
Try using your online shopping to be organised or plan to pick up afew things on the way home is typical of retur ing from holiday.
No he isn't.

Well this is completely different than what you originally wrote isn’t it? Yes he sounds inconsiderate.

C1N1C · 09/07/2024 11:37

Run boyfriend, run!

This is one of those 'he should have known' posts... no, you should have told him.

I've picked my partner up from the airport sooo many times. Virtually all of those times I've asked what they felt like and they said they're not hungry, just tired and want to rest from the flight. The rest of the times it's getting a takeaway because they don't want any stress, and want something simple.

CleftChin · 09/07/2024 11:38

Honestly I wouldn't have thought of the milk.. and my dad always drives round the airport rather than park up, whereas I always park in an airport carpark because I prefer the convenience.

BUT I would have had water in the car and probably some snacks, and offer to pop into a corner shop on the way home if they wanted.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 09/07/2024 11:40

Dump him. Move on.

KreedKafer · 09/07/2024 11:55

The money's got nothing to do with this. You didn't ask him for milk, so it didn't occur to him that you'd need some. It wouldn't occur to me, either.

You're being ridiculous and spoilt if you think this (alone) is a big deal.

Gogogo12345 · 09/07/2024 11:57

I usually just pop in the BP garage and buy milk on way back from airport. Whether someone given me lift, I'm driving or using the train.

Roseyjane · 09/07/2024 12:06

You sound like really hard work, I’d bin you off.

rookiemere · 09/07/2024 12:07

How far is the drive?

littleapplecottage · 09/07/2024 12:08

The milk thing shows he's not massively considerate, if you would have done it for him and were raised to be considerate and caring then you are going to have a struggle with this one.
Some people just aren't raised or don't think like that, I personally think chose a life partner who is like that (read the threads on this board asking people about the nice partners they have, it's an eye opener if you were raised to expect nothing from others).

Re the parking, yes that's right. Flights and travel are tiring and you just wanted to be picked up, I think that was very rude and thoughtless. If he doesn't have the money to pay for collecting parking at an airport once or twice a year then he's struggling for money (no shame it that) but for me personally I wouldn't want to date someone who couldn't afford those basics.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 09/07/2024 12:24

Is this part of a wider set of behaviours? If he is a generally thoughtful, giving person?

I'd say the parking is tight though. If someone is picking you up at the airport, they should actually be at the airport.

Yorkshirewithlove · 09/07/2024 12:30

It did occur to him that l had no milk in. I told him before l was going away to use whatever l had in the fridge.

His attitude was that l would need to get shopping anyway so might as well get the milk too. I did an online shop previously, however, my flight was so delayed that l was not back in time for it.
