To sell the house at a loss and move to Spain??

Absolutely sick to death of this weather. It’s currently sheeting it down in mid July. The house is dark and dingy because there’s no sunlight. I just don’t think we can cope.

we’re in the middle of a renovation so couldn’t sell the house for what we paid for it but we’re both feeling desperate just to get out of this country!!

I think Spain are changing the rules about buying property and revoking 80% of current leases so you may want to look at that too.

YANBU

I’m also laughing at everyone who thinks a move to Spain is the most radical thing you could do or a pipe dream, literally thousands of Brits do it every year and why not? Is it ridiculous when somebody from another country moves to the UK?

I grew up in Spain. I'd give anything to be able to raise my daughter there, but my financial situation doesn't allow for it. Go for it.

I’m with you. So sick of incessant cold, dark and rain. I have an EU passport but waiting until dds finished school

A few things to consider:

  • do you speak the language?
  • what would happen if you lost your job with this company?
  • can you cope with the heat?
  • if you don't speak the language how will you deal with all the admin/legal side of things?
  • if you don't have an EU passport what are the legal options for you to settle there?
  • If you sell your house in the UK and then decide that Spain is not for you after a while you might have issues being able to buy again in England
  • Living in a country full time is very different than just spending a couple of weeks there on holiday when you see everything through rose-tinted glasses
  • could you move to a 'sunnier' part of the UK instead? I am on the Kent coast and it is warm today and we had a few decent days of sunshine in the past couple of months.

Basically don't make a rash decision, instead do some research and planning first to confirm that this is a good option for you.

That was before Brexit and many of these people were retiring, rather than going there to work.

@colachive I wouldn't consider moving to Spain at the moment. There's lots of hostilities towards non-Spanish buying or renting their properties. You don't want to sell up, especially at a loss, and regret it.
