How often do you eat takeaways?

I work in a pretty stressful job and often have to work overtime. Lately, I've noticed that I'm eating 4-5 takeaways a week and sticking to simple foods like sandwiches when I'm at home.

While I haven't put on weight yet (I'm still in my mid-20s). Using "Just Eat" is so easy and convenient, but I'm becoming increasingly concerned about my health.

I came to this realisation when the takeaway driver said the staff at the shop were surprised when they found out I was a female in my 20's apparently they thought I'd be a bloke in my 40's.

Now I'm too ashamed to order from them again. 😭😂

How often do you eat takeaways & how do you make time to prepare your own food?

Once a month, normally pay day Friday, and I go all out with a Chinese. Sometimes get a takeaway twice a month if I'm feeling wasteful 😂

We never get delivery, on principle.

So if we have a takeaway, one of us has to walk and pick it up.

We find it’s a really good way of making sure we actively want the takeaway rather than just can’t be bothered, as by the time we’ve walked and queued we could have cooked something, or bought something from the shops anyway.

We do sometimes like to walk, pick up fish and chips on the way and take it to eat in the park. It’s a once every couple of weeks treat in the summer holidays, but we don’t do it the rest of the time, but probably collect to take home once every couple of months. Nearly always fish and chips.

But we do eat out in a cafe or restaurant about once or twice a month - if we’re walking anyway, we may as well walk into town.

Once a month at most. Sometimes not even that. I always feel quite gross after eating them. I am quite a good cook so that helps.

Twice in the past 15 months and both times because we had in-laws staying with us for an extended period of time and I was fed up of cooking for them.

We can easily afford it but my DH has crohn's disease and DD has food allergies so we prefer to do healthy homemade food. It's just less stressful than worrying about the health implications of takeaway.

Aweee I hope everything goes well for your family! My sister has food allergies mainly to peanuts so I know how stressful it can be when shopping around for food.

That sounds lovely that you eat it out in the park! I really need to put this into my life, just a simple treat maybe every few weeks.

We have a Payday takeaway once a month.

Then if DH is away over the weekend looking after his mum and ds isn't working, I'll sometimes splurge on a pile of samosas and some daal. DH hates lamb and it's only about once a month.

The rest of the time I cook from scratch which is a tad wearying, but I use Rukmini Iyers One pan books so I can just throw everything in the oven and forget for an hour.

I've never heard of Rukmini Iyers! I only know Gordon Ramsey! I'll be sure to look up some of her recipes!
Ohhh and I love lamb, especially with a dash of mint sauce. 🤩

Never, is my default
I've ordered one off my own bat, in my entire life, maybe 4-5 times not of my own free will but perhaps if hungry and friends were ordering ones and I felt like I should join in, or someone I was with at their house ordered one and I'd get a side order as to not appear rude. Nowadays if that happens (was much younger then) I'd choose to go to the shop and get 'real' food, or if I had friends round I'd opt to make something.
I like cooking, like healthy food and they're extortionate and full of crap, why would you?

I'm not sure if it's something psychological in me, I know I'm eating trash but I'm so used to it! I have to change though! I want to live a good life.

Do you go out to eat at restaurants? X

Never.

Astrak · 09/07/2024 15:33

Never. I have a horse and a cat to look after. They get 5* care and attention, with all their needs fully met.
I use any money left over (very little) for me. And before anyone suggests that I get rid of them - don't. I'm a widow and my son has an expensive wife and their several children to look after.

fussychica · 09/07/2024 15:35

Honestly, never but do buy M&S/Waitrose meals to bung in the oven some nights, served with salad or veg.

muddyford · 09/07/2024 15:39

Once every three months when I have fish and chips with my parents.

Weekenders · 09/07/2024 15:42

I'm about the same as you - 4 or 5 per week.

One of my main indulgences in an otherwise unextravagant life.

How you doing with this Op? still struggling to cut down?
