To not go to the party?

DS' (6) friends birthday is tomorrow and he's having an outdoors party/meet up at the park. It has pissed it down all day today and we're due more of the same tomorrow.

Would you want to go to the park in the rain, its not very enjoyable is it?

I'm wondering if IBU not to go on account of the weather. Would you?

I’d probably dig some wellies and waterproofs out and go for it.

Mrsttcno1 · 06/07/2024 12:42

I’d still go, we are waterproof and kids don’t even really notice the weather once they are running around having fun. Plus I’d be devastated if nobody turned up to my child’s birthday party and I don’t think it’s fair to do that when you’ve agreed to go

MooonDreamer · 06/07/2024 12:45

Ask them if it's still going ahead. if it is then go

We were invited to a child's birthday party and the weather seemed awful. In the morning the mum texted saying they're still going but understand if we want to give it a miss. We said we'd go if it's going ahead and it actually brightened up and was fine.

Feelingmentallyunsettled · 06/07/2024 13:17

It's a real shame for the birthday child if every body just drops out.
I agree with pp about contacting the mother to see if it's going ahead. They might be thinking about alternative arrangements if the forecast for tomorrow is that bad.

Epicaricacy · 06/07/2024 13:25

So not only the birthday child has the bad luck of crap weather on his birthday,

but he's be having friends dropping out because of the rain?

Seriously? What if everybody does the same? What an awful attitude, he's 6 years old. I can't believe adults can be so mean.

Ivesaidenough · 06/07/2024 13:32

I had a party in the park for my 3 year old. Only 3 kids turned up because it was overcast! It was awful. I'd always go now.

DinnaeFashYersel · 06/07/2024 13:34

Kids don't care about bad weather - just adults.

Waterproofs and Wellies and go for it.

AssortedLabels · 06/07/2024 13:34

Dress appropriately and go. They also might have a Plan B if the weather is particularly bad.

YellowHatt · 06/07/2024 13:50

I think I’d make extra effort to go to help make the best of it.

AtrociousCircumstance · 06/07/2024 13:51

Yes go. Ask if it’s still on of course. But you turn up.

Dora33 · 06/07/2024 13:55

Hopefully the parents have a backup plan & will instead have the children to their home for party.

Foodieasfuck · 06/07/2024 13:56

I wouldn’t let the birthday child down… it’s miserable. Dog out the wellies and a brolly or 2!

OneWorldly4 · 06/07/2024 16:41

Go!

The host might be thinking of another plan or waiting to see the forecast.

If its still in the park, take a brolly. The kids will love messing around in the rain!

Roryhon · 06/07/2024 16:45

Six year olds ought to love splashing about in the rain. And the organising parents are probably thinking up an alternative plan/venue. Even if you only go for 40 minutes, take the present and have a run around it’s not going to kill you. Think of the birthday child.

Smithhy · 06/07/2024 16:47

Would your DC enjoy it?

WTAFisthisnonsense · 06/07/2024 16:48

Waterproof clothing and puddles is child heaven. Don't curtail your child's fun because of a bit of weather.

IVFlife · 06/07/2024 16:49

humans can dry. Might be a laugh

Geiyotue · 06/07/2024 16:49

Surely they will relocate? I wouldn't go to a party in the rain, it will be miserable.

SpikeyDee · 06/07/2024 16:49

Definitely get the wellies on and go. Parties are a big deal when you’re 6. Birthday child probably very excited and deserves to feel special, not like shite because everyone drops out.

That said, I don’t understand people who have outdoor parties in the UK without a back up plan.

I'd go for it too! Poor little kid will be so sad if no one turns up.

autienotnaughty · 06/07/2024 16:52

They might bring a gazebo. I would not let the child down. Some people might not come and that would be awful for the child

Scorchio84 · 06/07/2024 16:53

Ah yeah as others have said don't pull out unless it's torrential & if that is the case the parents will probably rearrange or come up with an alternative anyway

My son used to go to "forest school" once or twice a week as part of his play school, rain or shine (mostly rain) they still all went out in their wellies & rain coats & loved it

Crunchymum · 06/07/2024 16:54

We had the same today. The parents waited until 30 minutes before the party was meant to start (we're all local and it was a very informal snacks / cake / kids have a runaround together invitation) but still a shame. They mentioned rescheduling for tomorrow but tomorrow looks to be the same 🙄

We were still set to go but can't say any of us were looking forward to it (all 3 of my DC had been invited and as the kids are young it was parents to stay!)

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 06/07/2024 17:00

Hopefully they have a plan in place and make sure you dress appropriately

This.
