To be a secret Tory voter and feel embarrassed about it?

SecretToryVoter · 04/07/2024 12:41

I’ve just gone to do my vote and had to admit to myself that I’m one of those secret Tory voters and would be embarrassed to admit it to friends / family!

A month ago I was adamant that I would be voting Labour but ended up changing my mind for a number of reasons

  1. Keir seems to have a number of grand ideas of what he wants to do but no substance behind how he’s going to do it (where is he going to find an additional 6,500 teachers as just 1 example)
  2. Womens rights
  3. my Labour candidate has been helicoptered in and doesn’t look good on paper whereas the Tory candidate is a local, well respected councillor
  4. Tory policy is closer to my values overall

anyone else had to admit to themselves that they are a Tory at heart for this election?

Can always tell when someone is losing an argument when they say stuff like "none of your business" 😂

I'm losing nothing, as if I'm going tell some creepy stranger what town I'm talking about that's 10 miles down the road from me... its completely irrelevant.

Wake up and vote for a decent council instead of playing for the team mentality!

Mummy2024 · 04/07/2024 19:33

Take your pick.... there's hundreds of labour towns across the country.... where I am talking about is irrelevant and none of your buisness.... you will be asking for addresses next. Creepy or what

Edited

Lol. You talked about this mythical labour town that’s done well despite austerity. Surely that tells you Labour councils can be pretty good.
Come on where is it ? And what a weird response.

Notice how some of these posters cannot bring themselves to admit that the Tories are incompetent. It’s everyone else’s fault. Laughable.

They are incompetent but so is my LABOUR council!!! The LABOUR council 10 miles up the road isn't!! This isn't about parties!!! It's about what individual councillors who call themselves labour have done to my town!

Guildford? Not Labour. On brink of bankruptcy. Woking? Not Labour, already bankrupt I believe. Not Tunbridge Wells as Rishi directed levelling up money away from some unnamed impoverished area to shovel it into the burgeoning coffers of the well-heeled, so he said. No wonder you feel embarassed.

See that is absolutely classism that someone above was talking about. Rayner is awful but let’s stick to the political reasons she’s not fit for the DP position rather than getting personal. It really undermines the argument to call someone who’s managed to work to her position a ‘chav’.

I’d probably say that Raynor gets out of her depth easily. She will be expected to speak with global leaders and high profile people if she is deputy. The problem being, if she doesn’t like what someone says, or she’s unable to express herself, she resorts to name calling. Ie; scum, or similar. She has to accept that she is going to come across people who don’t align with her views or opinions, but has to remain professional. Not sure that’s within her capabilities sadly………

Yes I clearly stated the LABOUR council 10 miles up the road are great! Does that mean I should vote my terrible one back in because they bare the name labour?? Because thats what your suggesting. Excuse their absolute failure to make decisions that make the town self sustaining and successful because they have a labour banner. Well no I will not. Won't matter anyway everyone here votes for more failure can't see past the partisan politics unfortunately.

NOTthisOldchestnut · 04/07/2024 19:47

Mummy2024 · 04/07/2024 19:36

If they performed enough they wouldn't be short of cash.... if a ceo made a loss year after year should they keep their job if they blamed the customers instead??? Only in politics is this being allowed and justified.

If you saw my town you would see why I'm angry.

Partisan politics ruins lives

Back in January More than 40 Tory MPs urged Rishi to boost funding for struggling councils. They are heavily underfunded, and no amount of performing will change that. I do acknowledge some people are more competent at their jobs than others, and use resources more wisely than others. Although, at the same time they can only work with what they have, something has to give.
Direct your anger at the Tories.

Sooo she wasn't asking for the name of the town?? Lol 😆 😆 😆 of course she was, if it is even a she... I clearly stated a labour town was a town with a labour council that wasn't enough they wanted a NAME.

Apply for a ehcp if you haven't got one already and ask for your sons private school to be named on it. The council will have to pay the fees. You may have to fight for 3 years and go to court but you should get there in the end

Thank you for the advice but I can’t pay his fees (which are already killing me) plus 20 per cent plus barristers fees for 2+ years. That’s the point!!!

Franzkafkascat · 04/07/2024 19:48

@Mummy2024 you need to calm down.
Read up on the Conservative’s small state obsession. Austerity was a deliberate ideological choice and massively harmful. Many economists discussed this ad nauseam at the time.
Yes some Labour councils have been inept, I’ll agree, but many northern towns were also deprived of investment for years. And austerity made things worse. Scream and shout all you want, but this Tory government has behaved abysmally. We’ve been let down by them time and time again. Levelling up a prime example. What’s your opinion on that ?

You don't need to pay barristers fees. Contact IAS, my friend didn't need a barrister and I'm pretty sure kids under 18 get legal support anyway but she just had her ias representative

’Think about everyone not just your own needs when voting, but not when it means SEN kids get to go to private school due to tax breaks cos that’s taking the piss when my kids can’t go’….

Everyone. Focussing on the most vulnerable. Out of SEN kids whose parents can afford private and those who can’t, which so you think that is?
and if you are on benefits, you can’t afford it so…

You make a supposedly factual statement about somewhere but can’t name the town. You think it will out you ? Let’s just say it doesn’t exist. Cannot be arsed arguing with you.

cardibach · 04/07/2024 19:50

Zippedeedooda · 04/07/2024 18:55

Appreciate your thoughts but at least some of the kids go to private thereby offloading an already stretched system of lots of SEN kids.
Also on your point
Labour have said nothing about more specialist schools they have said in their manifesto they support more inclusivity ie everyone together. With more SEN kids in state ( due to the tax ) and no more specialist schools I can’t see any kids coping in school.

Edited

I was work8ng 8. Education at the time of the last Labour government. They also had people saying all the ‘but what will they DOOO? They haven’t said they’ll do more of x’. It was infinitely better.

marshmallowfinder · 04/07/2024 19:51

I never tell anyone who I vote for. It's private. So just say that if people ask.

Did you read my post at all? I was talking about how people who vote with controlled immigration in mind, that they’re accused of being racist and bigots. Not talking about Labour’s manifesto……

These are your words Labour supporters think anyone voting for a party who are wanting controlled immigration are racists and bigots.
Labour also wants to control immigration, but with humanity and within international law.

Randomlygeneratedname · 04/07/2024 19:52

Well I was embarrassed to have voted Tory in the last election and I'm embarrassed that I voted Labour in this one. There really isn't any decent choice, just gotta go with your gut.

I absolutely agree with you this conservative government has been an absolute farse and I would never vote for them.

Leveling up may have started out with the right intention but it's been mishandled and handed out to private entities instead of state funded education centres and has been abused. My husband signed onto a levelling up course (In a neighbouring town may I add because my town didn't provide any) go figure..... completed the course and didn't receive the qualification.... clearly the people running the course didn't enter the participants onto the relevant qualification courses..... either that or the tutor was so inadequate that they all failed? Can't see that can you?

I completely agree with you about this government and I have been out today and voted labour into government but I will not give this council my vote. People need to stop providing excuses for sheer incompetence

As if naming a town is "outing" as well! How can one person be identified in a whole town. 😂

Oh so suddenly they were asking where, but what does it matter anyway?

Who's losing this argument again?
