To think that protein shakes / powder can make you shit yourself (or is it just me)??

I'm in gimmer territory and am always trying to look at increasing my protein intake so that all the muscles in my body don't completely disappear. I have been supplementing my meals with a whey protein shake. I have also been suffering from nearly shitting myself. There is no elegant way to put this.

I was thinking I would have to go to the GP, as I was really struggling with what I can only describe as leakage. I've already had a sizeable repair up my bum, as having DS's giant head dragged out with forceps and DD's slightly smaller head ripping through me did untold damage to my internal passages.

I was worried that I needed another repair, but went away for a long weekend where I stopped having the protein supplements and the leakage issues disappeared too. I tried to reintroduce the shakes and it started again, so I know that it is definitely connected.

Has anyone else had this problem with protein supplements? Am I being unreasonable to think that there might possibly need to be some kind of warning on these things to say, "You may shit yourself if you take this supplement"?

I think dairy intolerance would create those symptoms. It’ll either be that or the sweetners - do you have much of either in the rest of your diet? Maybe try and cut one out and then the other and see what helps.

Cutting out the whey powder definitely stopped the seepage / leakage problem @Hobbes8 . The only thing I'm not clear on is if it is the whey powder or the sweetener added to it that was causing the problem!

Do you struggle to eat at lunch and dinner? Could you not add more protein to those meals and not worry about breakfast so much?

If you consume too much protein it simply is expelled by the body, can also cause excess gas too 😬 your body can't store excess protein so it simply exits the body. Also kreatine has a strong poo reflex so make sure your protein does t have added kreatine as that'll go through you like anything

You could try peanut powder. Are you sure you're not aiming for too much protein? The protein thing is a fad at the moment
Too much protein can have a bad effect on your kidneys, as it puts a lot of strain on them.

I find inulin gives me that issue, when I used a vegan one with insulin.

But if it's the whey versions, and you also have problems with quark, are you sure you're not lactose intolerant?

I can’t eat anything labelled “protein” without having a really upset stomach. I’m not sure what it is exactly that causes it but I just steer clear of any highly processed forms of protein.

I use pulsin vegan protein powder and never have this problem!
