...it seems like there are lots of conservative voices bots currently starting threads about how terrifying a labour govt will be.

In the interest of balance, I thought it would be useful to have a list of terrifying things the Tories have already done.

I'll start thus:

Brexit (we aren't supposed to think of this as an election issue but it's shite so I will)

Partygate

The COVID ppe scandal

... Would anyone like to add any more?

One of the quickest vaccine roll outs

Free school meal vouchers during the holidays as well as holiday clubs.

Increased minimum wage before paying tax.

Fluffyowl00 · 30/06/2024 22:41

Told everyone during the cost of living crisis we should eat turnips

Blair and Brown aren't standing in this election. It's one thing to have a short memory but the damage the Tories have done was even less time ago. In fact, all over Britain there will most probably be rivers being pumped with sewage as we type.

Universal Credit. Changes to disability benefits.

Disability benefits are being paid out to more people than ever, thanks to the changes. They tried to get rid of 0.1% fraud but instead more people than ever are now entitled to the higher rate.

On the free school meals thing, wasn't that because Marcus rashford spoke out against them being stopped during lockdown and the backlash was too strong? Or maybe I'm wrong?

I'm not sure they deserve much credit for free school meals when they were actively against it; only to evetually buckle under the pressure of Marcus Rashford's campaign.

The holiday meal vouchers only happened because a footballer shamed them into it. What holiday clubs are free? Very few.

😂I know the cost of living crisis is down to numerous factors affecting the world but if Labour were in the world would be rainbows and lollipops 😂

Fluffyowl00 · 30/06/2024 22:45

After 7 hours of waiting in children’s A&E with my child’s temperature hovering between 39 and 40 I discharged (?) her and told the nurse if she was going to die I’d rather it be at home than on one
of those plastic chairs.

My German friend honestly didn’t believe me.

The vaccine rollout and the furlough scheme were just about the only two things they got right in COVID! And the FSM in the holidays was because they were shamed into it by Marcus Rashford. The Tories resisted that until the last moment.

There has been fiscal drag in just about every other area, the tax burden is tremendous! Benefits have been annihilated!

You're really clutching at straws here! Feel free to vote Tory, but I hope you'll never need support in any way, shape or form, as it will most likely not exist.

The ones that happen during the holidays, if you are on FSM then you would know.

Well, they have had plenty of time to withdraw them and haven't. Guarantee Labour will be doing so.

Conservatives wanted to and gave £20 a week increase in UC so they could get rid but there was an outcry.

If I read the phrase “Labour don’t know what a woman is”, whilst conveniently failing to mention that the Tories do not give two fucks about women and their rights, and then saying they’ll vote Conservative, again, I think I might scream.

Yep me too. The Conservative record on supporting women is dismal, off the top of my head there’s these things:

A Met policeman rapes and kills a woman, women understandably protest about this, there’s footage of police abusing women at the demo. The Met is riddled with misogyny, nothing important is done.

Rape convictions are something like 1% end in conviction, that’s a lot of rapists getting away with the crime, hence me not believing that men need to wear skirts to rape women. They do just fine without them.

The CSA is gutless and crap, how many women do we see on here saying that their partner has taken off and left them without support? This could be improved with a political will to do so.

The burden of austerity fell disproportionately upon vulnerable women, did the Tories give a fuck? Hell no.

The trans movement so many of you hate on here, under Tory watch. How have they proved ‘they know what a woman is’ over the past 14 years you’ve bitterly complained about? It isn’t rational, they’ve been in government and you’re about to sign us up for yet more. Their record so far is what they have to give you. Don’t believe the pro Tory bullshit. The only liking they have for women is shagging and leaving them in the case of bloody Johnson.

My friend's child is on FSM and there is only one holiday club available - it is free but she can't get there because she is working and the only bus service into the town runs 2 days a week and not on the holiday club days.

Her children are looked after by their gran and sometimes they stay there in the winter because her house is warmer.

Burying the Russian Report.

Boris not having the confidence of his own ministers as they were all resigning on him in record numbers so he was just shoving people totally unsuited (not that a lot of those who had the jobs in the first place were any good at them) and unqualified into positions of power just to try keep his job rather than admit his time was over.

Wanted to only lock down London when the pandemic began and to hell with the rest of the country.

"let the bodies pile high!"

Eat out to help out or rather, "let's cause another wave to kill more people." who couldn't see what the consequences of that would be?

Totally forgot about those shielding and did little to help them after the first lockdown. Even the "Boris boxes" were more veg soup (mouldy carrots and bags of potatoes that had more water than anything else in them) and random other stuff that wouldn't constitute even just one meal other than a bowl of cereal.

No uplift in benefits for those who are in legacy benefits (ie carers and the long term ill who weren't in universal credit so some of the poorest people)

Letting Dominic and Carrie influence/make his decisions.

Barnard Castle.

Wallpaper gate.

"you can have Christmas! 5 days! All together".... A few days before Christmas when supermarket slots had long gone and people had bought vastly inflated tickets that couldn't be refunded in time to give them the money back to buy their Christmas dinner. "you can have 24 hours and can't sleep over."

The party gate and suitcases of booze being wheeled in under cover so the press didn't see.

I recommend the failures of state book if you haven't read it yet.

Michelle Mone's luxury yacht
Massive increase in food banks
Mind boggling profits for oil companies
30% of children living in poverty
Teachers leaving faster than they can be replaced, ditto doctors.
Huge staff shortages in adult social care.

@ratflaps really? Honestly? Don't get me wrong, I don't think labour are much better.

But perhaps they might have some semblance of a moral compass?

Tony Blair (or the puppet master Alastair Campbell) did not have a moral compass.
I think Keir Starmer thinks he has a good moral compass but he doesn't.

The one flight that took off to Rwanda? More staff on it. One person to send over with a several thousand pound back hander and they failed to mention he was always going to go over to Rwanda and just took them up for an offer to get there for free with free cash

You do remember they were shamed into the school meal vouchers, mostly by Marcus Rashford?

Which was also a drop in the ocean in contrast to the billions of public funds they corruptly funnelled to their mates via dodgy PPE and COVID test deals.

Energy prices are through the roof because of Russian war, green energy etc. Most countries are having a crisis.

The holiday clubs are to include those who are vulnerable and make sure they have a lunch and a wide range of activities like MC children do.

As someone on the bottom of the scale, I find it tiresome that everyone thinks it's dire. As they are always called the nasty party, it hasn't been as dreadful as when Cameron came in but I suppose we could blame Labour spending all the money or illegal wars 🤔
