To ask is this hypothermia?

Posting for traffic.
I did an endurance run as part of a team last night.
It involved running as a team for 24 hour so had to do a couple of hours overnight.
It was raining. I probably wasn't dressed for it as I thought it would be dry.

I've not been able to get warm or stop shivering for the last 18 hours. I couldn't sleep (camping) as I was a mixture of high on adrenaline and absolutely freezing.
I'm home now, had fluids, food , vitamin C tablets, hot shower and have a blanket wrapped round me. Still shivering.
I'd like to get right if possible for the morning.
What is this? Any recommendations?

have you tried paracetamol?

Floralnomad · 30/06/2024 16:10

Have you actually taken your temperature as that is a good place to start .

Topjoe19 · 30/06/2024 16:10

Yes to paracetamol. Have you got a bath? A soak in hot water is better than a shower when you're cold in your bones.

No working thermometer unfortunately.

Hypothermia is when your body temperature is 35c or less. Have you taken your temperature or googled “hypothermia NHS” to find advice.

Does a neighbour or anybody near have one?

Hugesunflower · 30/06/2024 16:12

Nhs advice is to go to a and e.

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:12

have you tried to treat ir as though you ate coming down with something ie paracetamol?

Floralnomad · 30/06/2024 16:13

Could someone nip to an emergency chemist / family / friend to get a thermometer

Ineffable23 · 30/06/2024 16:13

Is there anyone around to see how physically cold you are? I guess in terms of stuff to do, probably a hot shower might cool your core body temperature because it would cause your blood vessels to dilate. You want to warm up from the inside so I would go with tea and other hot drinks and a heavy amount of insulation or something like a hot water bottle which you can use on your core as well.

QuestionableMouse · 30/06/2024 16:15

I think you should ring 111 for advice.

Campestris · 30/06/2024 16:18

Strange it's been going on for so long. I think call 111

Floralnomad · 30/06/2024 16:18

Have you got a hat on , if not put one on .

Lokshen · 30/06/2024 16:18

Warm drinks, warm bath, lots of carbs.

Killerqueenie · 30/06/2024 16:20

Sounds like you might actually have a possible infection? When I have an infection, I usually get a high temperature but feel absolutely freezing, like I cannot get warm, even though I'm actually roasting.

Are you lips blue? Are you breathing more slowly than usual? If so then that may be hypothermia. Do you know anyone that has a thermometer that you could borrow?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 30/06/2024 16:20

Theyre just going to ask OP what her temperature is. OP, you're going to HAVE to get your hands on a thermometer - isnt' there anyone you can phone to bring you one?

Could just be a fever from a virus.

Hugesunflower · 30/06/2024 16:22

OP, can you get yourself to A and E either by a friend/family member driving you or taxi? If no you need to call 999.

Heavenssakes · 30/06/2024 16:22

Don't take paracetamol; absolutely contraindicated if you have hypothermia.

You need medical help. Now.

Absolute minimum, ring 111.
Better still, A&E

Heavenssakes · 30/06/2024 16:23

Are you alone?

Tulipvase · 30/06/2024 16:27

My husband had done a few ultra marathons and has experienced something like this. I’m not sure if lasted this long though. Can you add a duvet or something whilst you are deciding what to do?

RedHelenB · 30/06/2024 16:28

Have a warm bath OP.

AnnaMagnani · 30/06/2024 16:28

There are a few serious things it could be especially sepsis.

If you can't stop shivering and it's now several hours post run you need to go to A+E.

Heavenssakes · 30/06/2024 16:29

@mrlistersgelfbride
Are you alone?

If so, you need to dial 999 now.

If not, I have a couple of other suggestions.

Killerqueenie · 30/06/2024 16:29

I wouldn't recommend any more ways to warm yourself up until you have checked your temperature. If you have a fever, you will only be causing your core temperature to rise even further.

Hugesunflower · 30/06/2024 16:37

Don’t have a bath. This is very bad advice.

What you really need is to take up temperature and A and E. You’ve waiting 18 hours, please don’t wait any longer. Pop a hat on if you have one too.
