To think my pay should have risen at least a little since the new tax year?

Private sector, small company. Happen to have only just seen my payslips due to useless accountants (outsourced payroll) and seen everyone else's payslips too due to their error. The other employees had rises I haven't even had an adjustment.

Haven't had any negative feedback.

Also what's the best way to bring this up?

What were you told about what raise to expect? Private companies aren't obliged to give everyone raises, and normally you would have been told the outcome of your pay review.

Are you on NMW? (which has obviously gone up so you should definitely have seen that increase if so)

Spinachandcheese · 30/06/2024 13:45

Haven't had a pay review no annual review whatsoever

Also no not on minimum wage but hardly far off

Did you not benefit from the recent national insurance change- most people would have done. Ask for a pay rise

Spinachandcheese · 30/06/2024 13:53

In my location there's no change to ni this year

What was their error that allowed you to see all their payslips and also determine they all had raises? Have you reported the error to the appropriate people ad it is a massive confidentiality breach.

In that case, ask your manager for a pay review.

If you've been there longer than a year I'd agree with this

BarcardiWithGadaffia · 30/06/2024 14:34

Does your contract say that your pay will increase at the start of the tax year? How do you know what other employees were getting paid before the payslips you saw?

Jamieie · 30/06/2024 14:35

I'd be careful about raising that, just because the info was in front of you it doesn't mean you needed to look at everyone's pay. I dont think they'd take kindly to that. You need to fight your corner, not comparing yourself to others. If you think you need a payrsie ask for one.

Spinachandcheese · 30/06/2024 15:08

Yes I did flag the error to the accountants reminding them it was only my own payslips I was after. This issue isn't something I'm going to raise with my boss.

I've just never been in a role that hasn't been adjusted by at least a few quid in the new tax year. The fact the others got raises at this point just makes it extra unacceptable.

Thank you, yes I will ask for a review - never had to do this before eek!

You really need to flag to your boss that the accountants have sent you copies of all the payslips, this is a massive error on there part and as your boss is paying for this service he needs to urgently know about this.

longdistanceclaraclara · 30/06/2024 15:23

You've seen everyone else's payslips?!

This. You'd be expected to see the first payslip wasn't for you then IMMEDIATELY flag this to your boss and the person who'd sent it to you and delete it. You shouldn't admit you know everyone else has a payrise.

Jamieie · 30/06/2024 15:38

Also, how so you know they've had a payrise? How do you know what they were on before April?

Spinachandcheese · 30/06/2024 17:17

I know because they sent payslips plural

OP posts:
Spinachandcheese · 30/06/2024 17:23

And frankly if he values me that little he can do one I'm not telling him anything it'll be my little favour to the next person in my role who might also get 'lucky'

Are tax year pay rises the norm in your industry, I've never had a job where that was a thing. What kind of work does that?

Jamieie · 30/06/2024 18:28

Spinachandcheese · 30/06/2024 17:17

Plural as in current payslips and pre April payslips? How did you make a comparison to what they were previously on?

Spinachandcheese · 30/06/2024 19:58

So many curious questions about the payslips. It's not hard, people. Also no, I'm not outing what industry I'm in.

If anyone has any valuable tips on how to raise this I'm all ears eyes

Don't mention you saw the payslips. Don't compare yourself to other people and say "I found out/heard they got raises", that's irrelevant to your position/pay. Ask for a salary review and explain why you feel you deserve a pay increase. It can help if you actually have had a bit of a look around/spoken to a recruiter etc about what someone in your position, with your experience and skillset "goes" for, the going market rate of what you can expect should you be looking for a new job tomorrow. You're in an even stronger position if you can actually go to an interview etc and bring an offer to the table (which they would have to match/counter offer), I know people who've done that before, personally if I've gone through the trouble to look/interview elsewhere I'm already gone so no point in sticking around (and also if you do accept a counter offer be aware it might burn the bridge with the other place for future opportunities). Be prepared to vote with your feet if they aren't willing/able to pay you your worth, otherwise the whole discussion is a moot point (if you aren't going to do anything if the response is negative). But also remember that the grass ain't always greener on the other side and sometimes what you are being paid is just as important as other things (team, opportunities to grow, office culture etc).

SheilaFentiman · 30/06/2024 20:15

How long have you been there? In my company you have to be there a certain number of months to get a pay rise in the set month pa that it happens. Otherwise it doesn’t happen until the next payrose date.

The set month is not the tax year end, where I work, so possibly your prior companies chose to align annual pay reviews with the tax year

Shortfatsuit · 30/06/2024 20:21

My tip is not to let them know that you have looked at all of the other people's payslips that were sent to you in error, as you'll be more likely to be looking at a disciplinary if you try to base your argument on the fact that you looked at stuff that you shouldn't have been looking at.

Spinachandcheese · 30/06/2024 21:05

Thank you good point about seeing what the going rate is. Going to book in with a recruitment agency asap as job adverts never show remuneration details. I've been there over a year. And no I'm not going to mention that I have any knowledge of what the others are getting paid. And yes, I'm more than willing to walk, be skint and enjoy being on top of things and seeing my kids happier for a while until I get anything else than stay somewhere where I feel I'm being taken the piss out of.

Jamieie · 30/06/2024 23:40

Questions about the payslips as it doesn't make sense how you knew what people were on before. Unless this is the second time you've been sent all of the payslips. Or unless you are rooting instead but don't want to say that.
