It's in range

How hard are you working in the classes? With the best will in the world, just because you’re present doesn’t mean you’re working with high enough intensity to cause any changes to your body composition.

I go to CrossFit classes most days, and see quite a lot of men and women who come, don’t try particularly hard, use light weights etc and they don’t look like they work out 3/4 times a week, but they do it to socialise/other health benefits rather than to bury themselves for a six pack 🤷‍♀️

FlowersAndFairiesAndPie · 28/06/2024 15:17

Very hard. Heart rate up to 160. Sweaty. It's advanced class.

I'm using 12 or 16kg kettlebells

How tall and heavy are you because 1300 calories is probably only around your BMR and if you're doing exercise several times a week you're possibly not eating enough for your body's needs. You're definitely not going to gain muscle on that sort of calorie deficit.

gamerchick · 28/06/2024 15:33

VelvetBow · 28/06/2024 15:00

I'm willing to bet money you are not weighing your food every meal and therefore you're eating far more than 1300 calories without knowing it.

1300 calories isn't enough food.

Scales lie when you do weights.

Use a tape measure at the beginning, take photos front, side and back and then every 6 months to track progress.

I exercise every day but it hasn't led to weight loss because its not meant for weight loss. I exercise to increase flexibility, improve cardiovascular function and especially to improve my mental health. They do say you can't outrun the fork tho it sounds like you're already eating a low amount of calories.

Don't give it up yet! Remember muscle is heavier than fat so you may be gaining muscle. Has the fit of your clothes loosened any? That's a great indicator.

And I agree with others, 1300 is just too few calories unless your frame is tiny tiny imho.

gamerchick · 28/06/2024 15:49

Muscle is not heavier than fat. It just take up less room.

Clothes re definitely the best indicator. Dropping dress sizes was the main reason the scales got chucked. Just didn't compute.

FlowersAndFairiesAndPie · 28/06/2024 15:56

My clothes don't really fit anymore lol.

Have you tried resistance training / weights? I've been doing that 3 times and week and cardio 4 times a week for several months and definitely seeing a difference. I lift as heavy as I can manage

FlowersAndFairiesAndPie · 28/06/2024 16:08

Yes I did do some resistance. We do it in the classes too. I just think I dont really want to do it anymore and just accept my.body for what it now is.

At that height unless you weigh something crazy like 40kg you should be losing on 1300 especially with the exercise as well.

For reference

I am 155cm (5'1) and weigh 53kg (8st 3lbs ish) and I'm 37.

I do approx 15-25000 steps between Monday and Friday just going about my daily life.

On top of that I run 3 times a week and lift weights 3 times a week. I've set my calories to 1600 but I'm never totally 100% consistent because I always nibble something like a chip at work. I was losing at least half a kg a week ok 1450 but I'm starting to run further and faster now and my weights are getting consistently heavier so I need the extra fuel.

Why not try upping your calories a bit, keep them the same for 6 weeks and then reassess? I don't think 1300 is enough and sometimes it helps to increase them or have a couple of breaks where you eat at maintainance for a bit.

If you don't enjoy the gym anymore then that's a good enough reason to quit but if you are only not enjoying it because of weightloss I think you need to keep going and forget about the weightloss.

I've wanted to quit running so many times because I didn't feel like I was getting anywhere, I have a bad day and think what's the point but then I go out and do well and I enjoy it.

Brrrrrrrrrritscold · 28/06/2024 16:35

What are you eating? Is it decent whole food? Are you eating any diet / keto / low carb products. How much are you trying to lose? Have you pushed yourself to increase reps and weight in the gym? What age are you?

Cornflakes44 · 28/06/2024 16:35

unbelievablescenes · 28/06/2024 14:56

Something's going wrong here. Either you're eating more calories than you think or your exercise intensity is low or you have a medical problem. At 1300 cals a day and all that exercise you'd be losing something or at least toning up. It's simple biology, calories in less than calories out you lose weight. If you're not losing weight the balance is wrong.

I agree with this. You should be losing weight with all that. If you're not could you have a thyroid issue? Or maybe not eating enough? Could you try the 90 day challenge with Joe Wicks. 30 mins of exercise x 4 a week. And a meal plan so you are definitely getting the right amount of food. You take pics and measurements before and after so can see the results outside of the scales. Might be a better use of your time and effort.

AstonMartha · 28/06/2024 16:36

@Jom222 a kilo is a kilo whether it’s a a kilo of feathers or a kilo of pebbles.

@FlowersAndFairiesAndPie I agree on upping your your calories. Try it, what have you got to lose?

Oh God, because it's respectful, positive & healthy for your body? It shouldn't always be about your body losing weight by X in y set time, else you hate it. That's not a healthy relationship with your body.

At the same time, I get what you mean, and it could be that you're doing the wrong mix of exercises for you, and/or diet is letting you down, so it might be a great idea to review that. Exercise doesn't have to mean gym.Im a PT and the most weight I ever lost was by walking!

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 28/06/2024 16:43

Are you 40+?

I would say, ditch all the cardio and long classes in favour of heavy weights (i.e. if you can do more than 8-10 reps your weights are too light. )

Eat a lot of protein. Get some muscle packed on, then worry about slimming down. It's very difficult/impossible to build muscle AND be in a calorie deficit losing weight at the same time.

WavingTree · 28/06/2024 16:48

Work out your calorie goal on the James Smith Academy free calculator: its good.

go with that target for a month and track religiously, oil, sauces, everything.

if you’re in a calorie deficit you will lose weight.

up your steps if you hate the gym

How long have you been eating 1300 calories and how are you tracking said calories?

It's not making any sense to me at all, you really shouldn't be gaining.

SchoolQuestionnaire · 28/06/2024 19:10

What age are you? I ask because if you’re in your forties it could be perimenopause.
