To ask if you eat breakfast?

Ever since I was a child I have never been one to eat breakfast. Food so early in the morning just does not appeal whatsoever and if I do try to force it in makes me feel physically sick. I don’t typically get hungry until around 11am - at which point I’ll have a small snack (eg: cereal bar, fruit, croissant etc) to tide me over until lunch.

Today a close friend (known to have disordered, heavily restricted eating) accused me of having an ED because of the lack of breakfast. Personally, I can’t see any issue here. I’m a healthy weight and this is simply the pattern in which I have always preferred to eat. Any calories that I’ve missed from not eating early in the morning are certainly made up for later in the day with lunch/dinner

Is she just being unreasonable? Is it really that odd to skip it?

Every single day. Always have done. Think about it before I get out of bed each morning.

Gowlett · 26/06/2024 22:08

I think each body & mind is different.
You don’t need breakfast? Fair enough.

Luxell934 · 26/06/2024 22:09

I always eat breakfast. If I’m not hungry enough for breakfast then it’s usually because I’ve eaten too much for my evening meal or snacked in the evening which is not good. If I eat three healthy, portion controlled meals in the day then I am hungry for my breakfast when I wake up.

callaspin · 26/06/2024 22:10

I always have a bowl of porridge for breakfast. I don't get dizzy but I get hangry so it's best for everyone if I eat something! I have skipped it when fasting though.

Passthecake30 · 26/06/2024 22:12

Every day, I wake up hungry and also have a bit of reflux which breakfast helps, I eat at about 7.30am. Usually shredded wheat/porridge, seeds, fruit. Sometimes eggs on toast.
2nd breakfast is usually 9.30/10 - banana, nuts, hot chocolate.
I’m 6ft and 10.5 stone, and slim. I tend to graze all morning, have lunch and then don’t tend to eat after my evening meal.

I was doing intermittent fasting and did not eat breakfast. This was fine until I started exercising midmorning and found it just wasn't working (dizziness, fatigue). So I have started to eat breakfast, just moved my lunch time yoghurt to the morning instead.

I prefer no breakfast though and I will go back to that once I start working out in the evenings again.

It’s so interesting to see how we’re all different. If I exercise after eating, even a couple of hours after, it makes me feel really sick.

I can (and do) eat for England immediately after a workout though.

Rarely, DH is convinced that skipping meals is the reason I can't lose weight.

Onacuctustree · 26/06/2024 22:17

No. Not unless I am about to travel and know I won't be able to eat a couple of hours later.

Eating within an hour of getting up is hard for me.

If I don't, I will be starving after 3-4 hours though. But then I will eat proper food, rather than a piece of toast or yogurt.

So life allowing.
Breakfast is eggs on toast and fruit and yoghurt.. much later.
Very light lunch, then a proper dinner.

Cocopogo · 26/06/2024 22:19

No but once I stopped eating in the evenings I was much more hungry for breakfast

Lovemycat2023 · 26/06/2024 22:21

I used to be able to eat breakfast really early, and whatever I wanted. I remember having leftover fish pie before school. Now I can’t eat breakfast before about 8am, and then it’s quite small. My preferred time to eat it is 10am and by then I’m hungrier and can enjoy it.

I think being able to listen to your body and eat when you’re hungry is the opposite of disordered eating OP.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/06/2024 22:24

If I’m going to work (or working from home) I always eat breakfast - in winter porridge with a spoon of peanut butter, in summer granola and Greek yoghurt. On a non working day I never do, regardless of what time I get up. I’m a lecturer and off most of summer, never eat until lunchtime then.

AlanBrendaCelia · 26/06/2024 22:25

If I’m ok holiday and staying in a hotel, I will have breakfast every day.

The other 51 weeks of the year I don’t have breakfast because then I would be (even more) late for work. I can’t make myself get up earlier in order to have breakfast - I’d rather have an extra 10 minutes in bed.

I always have time to give the cats their breakfast though!

Berlinlover · 26/06/2024 22:25

I honestly think I’d faint as soon as I left the house if I didn’t eat breakfast.

dahliadiva · 26/06/2024 22:26

I have breakfast twice 😋 I have a cup of tea and a biscuit at 6.30 ish when I get up, and then about 8.30 or 9 I have toast and scrambled egg, or a bowl of granola and yoghurt. Or porridge, depending on the time of year.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 26/06/2024 22:27

I'm 55 now and I haven't eaten breakfast since I was at junior school.

I don't get hungry until about 11am-ish which is perfect because my lunch break is 12 to 1pm.

Normallynumb · 26/06/2024 22:31

I'm 59 and I've never been able to stomach breakfast. The exception being when I was pregnant and managed a milky drink" for the baby"
As I've got older I have almost no appetite and only eat once daily

Boxina · 26/06/2024 22:32

I can't eat in the morning, I'm not hungry till later, I usually eat about 12 but if I'm busy can go till 2 or later. I eat dinner late though, often 9.30/10. But I eat two meals a day and have done for years.

Shyshay · 26/06/2024 22:33

I don't eat breakfast, haven't for years! Might grab some fruit around 11 but my first meal of the day is definitely Lunch.

Stumpedasatree · 26/06/2024 22:39

I don’t tend to be hungry in the morning, and eat breakfast (which is almost always porridge) anytime after around 12:30pm. The only time I do eat in the morning is if I have a race (I’m a runner) and then I have to really force it down! I do have coffee, kefir or orange juice in though.

Thepeppapigfanclub · 26/06/2024 22:39

I never eat until lunchtime. If I have something to eat in the morning, I'm more hungry -so I don't. Who decided we needed breakfast? I think it's a myth. Unless you count a black coffee and a vape.

fieldsofbutterflies · 26/06/2024 22:40

Yes, everyday. I work an active, outdoors job and would feel sick by about 10am if I didn't eat.

Normally it's toast, banana, a glass of apple juice and a coffee.

AdoraBell · 26/06/2024 22:44

YANBU

I also struggle to eat when I wake up. I used to have gym sessions with a trainer I had to force myself to eat. We had to drop the sessions due to money. Now I’m back to eating about 2 hours after waking.

EyeOop · 26/06/2024 22:46

Once in a blue moon I wake up hungry and when I do I’ll eat straight away. But the vast majority of the time I don’t eat in the morning. If left to it’s own devices my body wants a light meal at about 4.30pm and a bigger meal about 9pm. It doesn’t want a third meal. I usually have my first food of the day between 3-6pm if I can manage it. I don’t have any problems with food, love it and have never been on a diet.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 26/06/2024 22:49

No. Never really felt hungry for it even as a child.

mondaytosunday · 26/06/2024 22:53

No I don't. I don't get hungry til about 11.
My daughter doesn't eat dinner if she goes in to college. She eats lunch on weekends though.
Your friend is projecting.
