It was parents evening last week at kids sch

ABIU to think it is not nice to have a register to sign in when it's ones booked time to go in & speak to child's teacher? The register is got the child's name, and parents names next to it and a signature box to sign in.

ABIU to think there shouldn't be parents full names on the registration form? For privacy reasons?

Also. Doesn't everyone know your name anyway? My kids know all their friends surnames and i know the first name of every mum in the class and 90% of the dads.

Of course under normal circumstances no big deal but not when you already have some very nosy people who you know will take note of the name or even a picture of it and go home to google it no doubt 🤣

Oh don't be so ridiculous!

Pottedpalm · 26/06/2024 19:35

Are you embarrassed because you are not married??
No one cares.

DowntonCrabby · 26/06/2024 19:35

What’s your actual concern with this?

TooLateForRoses · 26/06/2024 19:36

If you are in witness protection, or there's another safeguarding reason not to have your name on the paper let the school know.

If you're the parent of a celebrity or person of political importance child and they have their surname but you don't to enable you to have some sort of "normal" life then again speak to the school.

Or indeed if you are a celebrity

AliTheMinx · 26/06/2024 19:36

This is bonkers! Of course, it's fine...

HappierTimesAhead · 26/06/2024 19:41

How do you navigate adult life if you never want to tell anyone your name (which is the most basic bit of information about you)?

PonyPatter44 · 26/06/2024 19:49

Perhaps OP doesnt want to be SM stalked.

So she needs to sort out her privacy settings. It's not exactly hard, is it?

Greatmate · 26/06/2024 19:51

Catch a grip.

Pogointospring · 26/06/2024 19:52

Perfectly normal to sign in at a school, using your name, when you enter or leave the building, for parents evening and assemblies and the like.

If you have an actual problem with it (as in your security is at risk because you’re a high profile political figure or something) then speak to the school. Otherwise no one is remotely interested, your privacy is not at risk and I would imagine someone photographing the sign in sheet would rapidly come to the attention of staff. I cannot imagine anyone ever being bothered to photograph the sign in sheet or google other random parents though.

WeeOrcadian · 26/06/2024 19:57

Has the summer holiday arrived early?

IBelieveInFerries · 26/06/2024 20:01

As a parent, you need to choose your battles with your child's school. Because, one day, you will really need thrm to listen carefully to what you are telling them, and respond supportively.

This is not a battle to choose.

Well what have you got to hide?

AlpineSue · 26/06/2024 20:04

Don't be silly. Unless you are a celebrity no-one is going to google you and if you are so bothered you can set your social media to private or stay off it altogether like me. No-one is that interested in you.

Why would anyone need to take a photo of the name of a celebrity, if they know they ate a celebrity they know their name, I don't understand 😂

OP you need to explain why anyone would be trying to find out your name and is there a register for each teacher or one the way in? It would certainly stave off the boredom of waiting in a queue to watch other parent trying to nonchalantly take photos of the sign in sheets

LlynTegid · 26/06/2024 20:07

As long as the register is not kept for any period longer than absolutely necessary, no issue to me.

Robin198 · 26/06/2024 20:12

You are the type of parent we talk about in the staffroom.

Ain't that the truth!!😂😂😂

Meredusoleil · 26/06/2024 20:17

At my dc's primary school, the Head would sit at the entrance with a list of all the children's names and the parents would have to sign next to their child's name before they went through to meet the teacher. I think that is fine as not open access to everyone to see.

mycatsanutter · 26/06/2024 20:21

Why would they go and google the other parents names ?! Are they all really that interesting and surely lots of these parents see each other on a daily basis anyway !

summersofdoom · 26/06/2024 20:24

Could be worst, they could ask for your identifying hobbie.

It's pretty much always golf or cycling, which are just SO niche...

I am a Governor, and occasionally see that parents have looked me up on LinkedIn! But that's just one of the those things, as a governor I can hardly prevent people knowing my full name :-)
