Why not take your bloody coat of then?

Ratfinkstinkypink · 26/06/2024 16:07

Haven't seen anyone in a coat over the last couple of days but maybe they have body confidence issues?

Fairydust34 · 26/06/2024 16:08

they could have scars etc on there arms they want to be covered, or be self conscious

greencartbluecart · 26/06/2024 16:10

You don't need a coat to cover a scar !

AmelieTaylor · 26/06/2024 16:11

Coat? Really???

Hellskitchen24 · 26/06/2024 16:11

Very much doubt you’ve come across anyone “in a coat” moaning they are too hot!

A lot of people aren’t confident with their appearance hence covering up. Don’t judge.

timetorefresh · 26/06/2024 16:12

I'm a teacher. There are teenagers refusing to remove jumpers AND blazers then complaining it's too hot to work

DanielRicciardosSmile · 26/06/2024 16:12

A few years ago on a very hot August day I was on a bus where there was a woman wearing a thick coat, scarf and woolly hat. She opened her bag and got out a tiny battery operated fan. I did wonder then why she didn't just rake off her winter clothing instead.

XenoBitch · 26/06/2024 16:12

I have been wearing a cardigan, and am very hot. But I have a lot of self harm scars.

Rubyupbeat · 26/06/2024 16:13

Man's not hot

NotAgain1963 · 26/06/2024 16:13

I have seen a couple of people wearing coats, one was even wearing a woolly hat! But they weren't moaning they were too hot.

Bordersgarage · 26/06/2024 16:15

I wore a thin jumper yesterday because when I set off to a work event (at 6am) it wasn’t particularly warm. I stupidly didn’t iron the shirt I wore underneath, so when the temp climbed to 26 I was absolutely baking but couldn’t remove as the shirt underneath was a total shambles. Luckily the venue had good air con but the walk for the train wasn’t great!

Cornettoninja · 26/06/2024 16:20

It could be anything from covering a skin condition, scars, to embarrassment over sweat marks (which is a catch 22 I admit).

I used to be, and still am at times, that person who covers up because of psoriasis and general hairiness because I’m a dark haired woman blessed with porcelain skin. Well apart from the bright red cracked bleeding patches all over my arms and legs… I might look hot at times but I rarely, if ever, complain of being too hot. Doesn’t stop people starting the conversation as if I had been complaining and dishing out what must be the most obvious bleeding advice in existence though.

if I choose to confide in what are deeply personal issues to me, then it’s a bombardment of ‘I don’t care’. Oh alright, that’s ok then… wait, no it isn’t because I fucking do.

tldr; mind your own. Mumble a ‘it is hot today’ in solidarity and then get on with your day.

I have SI scars all over and have to live year round in cardigans. Sometimes it’s a coat because that’s what’s closest.

it’s pretty miserable, but nothing I can do about it. Can’t stand the judgemental stares if I have bare arms.

fieldsofbutterflies · 26/06/2024 16:32

There are all sorts of reasons people might want to cover up. Try not to judge.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 26/06/2024 16:37

@Mokel you might want to try scotland for a few days!!! here, we frequently have 4 seasons in one day and sometimes even an unexpected snow shower!!!! we honestly dont know what to wear going into town!

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 26/06/2024 16:44

DB is autistic and can't tell the difference between a light breeze and feeling cold so he wears a coat all year round.

Same here.
Last year, I caved and took my cardi off. Some old chap came up to me and said he wanted to ask about my arms. Um, no.

Years ago, I was asked to leave a pub as my arms were "upsetting some people", and I refused to cover them up.

Rosemarycc · 26/06/2024 21:51

I’m self conscious about my skin. I’m extremely pale and whenever I expose arms / legs on holidays I get locals coming up telling me I need a tan or in parts of Asia kids crowding round commenting on me/ trying to touch my hair.

Makes me want to cover up but even I have had to wear a dress these past days!

😂😂

I have no idea where/what this is from but my DH says it a lot and it tickled me 😆

I was shopping yesterday when schools had finished...high street was full of teens in jumpers and blazers. I remember when we had a couple of days last year of those 40 degree days...saw a couple of teenage boys in full school uniform, jumper blazer AND puffer coat!

Yes, this is often my husband. He really has a lack of body confidence and will often 'cover up'.

footgoldcycle · 26/06/2024 22:04

That's my MIL. she will be wearing jeans, thick t-shirt and a woollen cardigan and complain it's too hot!! That's the bare minimum she will wear

TooLateForRoses · 27/06/2024 04:40

Does this help OP? Do you understand more about hot weather coat wearers?

I would like to add people with mobility issues who trusted the forecast that it would rain and are now left wearing a coat until they are able to take it off.

People from warmer climates who usually find it cold so are still adjusting and haven't twigged the coat can come off now.

People who have dropped food down their fronts so are covering it up.

garlictwist · 27/06/2024 05:25

I wore my coat yesterday when I set off to meet my friend as it was really overcast and about 18 degrees. Once I arrived the sun came out and it got quite warm to about 25. This has been the issue the past few days, the sun isn't always out so it's hard to guage.
