Clothes for slim kids

DD is 5, long legs and slim, length wise she is in 5-6 but the waistbands always gape and fall down. I’ve tried ASDA, Tu, Next, they’re all massive. Any ideas please?

H&M are quite small.

TooLateForRoses · 24/06/2024 21:11

GAP
H&M

DownWhichOfLate · 24/06/2024 21:13

Laredoute. It says on their website that their sizing is smaller than UK brands. What’s her waist measurement?

DecafDodger · 24/06/2024 21:14

Vertbaudet has special narrow fit

AtomicBlondeRose · 24/06/2024 21:15

I was coming on to say H&M, they’re the best for skinny waists IMO.

InTheRainOnATrain · 24/06/2024 21:15

Next is massive, haven’t bought from the other brands. H&M usually fits DD well, or leggings/running tights from sportswear brands like Nike. Although I don’t think it’s that tricky with girls because dresses will always fit, cycling shorts can be sized down and are fine a bit shorter, legging in summer can become cropped and you can do tights in winter. I really struggle with DS though!

Turnthelightoff · 24/06/2024 21:17

Next does plain leggings in long length so you can size down in the waist but keep the length. Then I was also going to second H&M

friskybivalves · 24/06/2024 21:18

The French brands - made for beanpole kids.

AngelDelightButNotStrawberry · 24/06/2024 21:36

Zara.

I find boys not so bad as there is more stuff with the waist adjusters in them.

FamilyAreEverything · 24/06/2024 21:38

Lindex - leggings are elasticated and adjustable, plus I think they’re quite slim fitting too.

TheKoalaWhoCould · 24/06/2024 21:39

Buy boys’ stuff as it tends to have adjustable waists. H&M and M&S both cut quite well for skinny children,

Hinkuy · 24/06/2024 21:40

Primark come up tiny but long I always found.

SereneHighnessPrincessTheresa · 24/06/2024 21:42

We often bought stuff from nutmeg at Morrisons.

BeeandG · 24/06/2024 21:45

I've got a tall slim daughter and h&m aren't bad. School stuff generally ok from Tu with button in waists. She gets on well with primark but need to size up for length. She lives in nike pro shorts most of the time, she's 10, they are a fab fit on her.

WhyamInotvomiting · 24/06/2024 21:52

We have always had this problem with our DD too. She's not tall, actually quite petite in height too but still she grows taller first and is very slim. She's also in 5-6 for height but most waists gape on her and it's always a battle. In summer it is generally easier though if we have the weather for it because as PP says, summer dresses, shorts, cropped trousers etc so I can size down if needed and it doesn't matter if they're a bit shorter than intended.

I do find some odd good things in Next though - she has a few pairs of adjustable waist jeans from there and a pair of drawstring joggers. She is mostly still wearing 4-5 in all her shorts and cropped leggings when it's warm enough. I'm hoping by autumn she will finally have grown into the 5-6 waists enough (she just turned 6).

minipie · 24/06/2024 21:53

H&M, Zara, La Redoute. Look for things with adjustable waists.

TippedOverTheGravyJug · 24/06/2024 21:56

I have similar my 6yo dd needs age 9-10 for height ( 125cm)
Mainly stick to leggings, skinny jeans, cycle shorts.

SpringKitten · 24/06/2024 22:02

My dd has this build too - lean and tall (90th percentile height, 15th percentile weight). If we go on holiday in Europe we try and shop there.

I shop for clothes with adjustable button waist - M&S are good. Gap sometimes do a lean cut legging but you have to search. I look for clothes I can take the waist in. Dd wears a year or two below her age for leggings and wears Converse or boots to bridge the gap at her ankles.

Swimming costumes are also a problem s the material is baggy around her tummy (a problem I can only dream of!)

Avoid boxy Ts which look ludicrous

I have become a genius at spotting clothes that I can modify or will be ok. I use Vinted a lot especially when she has a growth spurt so I can recalibrate!

longdistanceclaraclara · 24/06/2024 22:15

H&M, Zara, Tu

Lucy807 · 24/06/2024 22:20

H&M (but they're still loose)

Chaosx3x · 24/06/2024 22:29

H&M are quite slim fitting but they’re generally very big because it’s a Swedish brand so made for tall kids. So I’d just size down and then the length will probably be fine and it’s a smallish waist fit.

Similarly Lindex are good as they have adjustable waist but because they’re Swedish again they do come up very big.

I find John Lewis quite slim fitting. Agree Next is massive. Zara comes up quite small as does M&S.

TipsyKoala · 24/06/2024 22:31

I always find waist bands huge on kids clothes and my children are slim but not skinny. The sizing is crazy so this is helpful for me too.

MilkLady02 · 24/06/2024 22:35

DS is the same. I’ve had success with Lindex, Vertbaudet and La Redoute.

Fridgetapas · 24/06/2024 22:39

Zara or Dunnes
