To ask what the most ridiculous thing you have ever spent money on is?

Mostly to make me feel better. I'm currently up and about because I have a hacking cough and can't sleep, and have just spent £6.50 on a baby lego crocodile on eBay.

Backstory: DS(6) has a Lego set which includes a family of crocodiles. Today a friend's toddler was over and took a shine to the baby crocodile, so he gave it to her to take home. He is totally unbothered, and knowing him will remain so, but I've felt sorry for the parent crocodiles all day, and have now spent actual real money to assuage my upset that two small pieces of plastic might be missing a third smaller piece of plastic. I even caught myself (briefly) worrying that the new baby crocodile isn't quite the right shade of green, and that they might know it's not really theirs.

My only defence is that I am quite pregnant and hormonal, and due to aforementioned cough have had very little sleep for the last few days. I'm honestly not usually this batshit...

Has anyone else spent money on anything so completely ridiculous?

Bought small thin skinned smooth fur dog a warm coat. Big fluffy thick haired dog sniffed her and looked expectantly at us, poking head in bag. Then realised there was no coat for him. Tail down, sulks off to basket.

Dh rushes out, purchases big coat for big dog. Big dog can't stand wearing coat and tears it off Immediately.

I got sucked into a website which sold the nost beautiful journal case with a years worth of monthly planners in. I think it was the moody colours and the vintage aesthetic that sucked me in. Also the prospect of getting my act together and being organised.

It turned out to be made in Australia, but by the time I realised that, I was too bought in to cancel.

When I ordered the set, somehow it came to over £100 for the set, plus £12 to ship. Still I didn't heed the alarm bells.

When I ordered it, it said as it is a bespoke item, the next available date was July - three months away. Still I proceeded.

Finally I got a message saying it had shipped. I waited eagerly for delivery. Three weeks later I got a message from the Royal Mail telling me I had a customs charge to pay of £25 plus admin fee of £12 ish. By this time I was in despair, but I duly paid the tax and finally this thing arrived, six months after ordering it.

It now sits proudly on my desk with two of the daily organiser pages filled out during its two months of use. 😫

A sewing machine because I love sewing bee. It's sat gathering dust because I couldn't even work out how to thread it.

I have two really old teddy bears and rescued them from my parents' house. One had one eye and one had no eyes. I paid far too much to send them to a doll's hospital to get the eyes replaced and the bears posted back to me. I just couldn't stand the thought they couldn't see!

Now that’s the sort of thing I did .
Had a little dog on wheels renovated plus my teddy that granny gave me when I was born .

A fabric shaver, hoping to breathe new life into bobbly jumpers and coats. A perfectly sensible purchase but it came with only the most basic instructions and I'm too scared to use it on anything in case I damage the fabric. So it just sits in a drawer.

New puppy anxiety (mine, not pup's). It arrives Tuesday, so I bought a heartbeat soft toy. It arrived stuffed into a tiny bag and turned out to be cheap and nasty despite the many glowing reviews. Returned it to Amazon. And bought another more expensive version which arrives today. Just read the reviews they keep hidden at the bottom of the page. Sounds exactly the same plus, this time, a fire hazard. Will I never learn?

I have just bought another Dustbin because I discovered a family of snails living in my old bin and could not put it out for collection in case they got crushed by the bin machine! they have now got a dustbin home all to themselves.
