Mass beach brawl in a beach club near Magaluf A drunken groom and the stags threw punches at each other , restaurant staff and security guards and other holidaymakers. Groom had to pay £850 bail to be released in time for his wedding. No wonder some countries dont want us.

Plenty of English are perfectly capable of behaving ourselves and learning several phrases of the local language but carry on with the racist stereotype.

Sonener · 23/06/2024 21:54

I never fly on a Thursday or Friday anymore as the flights are horrendous at times. Pissed up before they get on a plane at 7am! We went on one with about 30 lads on a stag who stood up the whole way in the aisles and were just obnoxious all the way.

@HairyChin where do you live where it's appropriate to use these words?

Er, not where we are. The natives are our friends! We go to their houses, we share meals etc

Clearly not where you are!!

You know the Scots and Welsh and Irish don't drink alcohol and get drunk, right?

Oh please !! One flight that was shit for you doesn’t mean that all the rest are on those particular days.

I fly Thursdays and Fridays mostly : alone with two children. Not one pissed up English person have I ever seen! And we fly a lot!

Seriously 🙄🤣

I think airlines are very good nowadays. It's rare to see drunks on a plane, they're barred from flying.

They’re not barred from drinking in flight. Passengers can be unpleasant and anti social without being flat out pissed. My worst flight ever was six weeks ago when we had several hen and stag groups onboard. If they carried on as they started, I pity the resorts they were headed for. (Edited for typo)

DancefloorAcrobatics · 24/06/2024 10:24

I think the mass tourism tide has definitely turned. Some countries are starting to go against it.
I was recently in Spain on a city break and I felt that hospitality was clearly lacking ... it felt a bit like hand over your money and piss off!
But here is the problem: If you work in hospitality & tourism then that's your livelihood....

A recent protest saw 15000 people take to the streets of Palma As they marched many waved placards imploring the "tourists go home!

Many hotels wont take stag parties Is this not tarring all with the same brush then?

They were protesting against all tourists, not just Brits.

YABU.

I never said that they were barred from drinking in flight. I said that airlines are now better at stopping drunks getting on board.
I'm surprised that the cabin crew took no action during your unpleasant flight.

clearwaterrising · 24/06/2024 11:18

I live in an Austrian ski resort and the majority of drunken incidents like this involve the Swedes, followed by the Dutch.
The UK press isn't going to report on a group of Swedes going on the rampage in a small Austrian village so British people don't get to hear about the fact other countries have badly behaved tourists too.

AIstolemylunch · 24/06/2024 11:25

Yes quite. This is a young male/testosterone group behaviour issue, not something specifically wrong with English people as a whole (and has been going on since caveman days btw). Women rarely behave like this (although of course there is always a minority that copy it eg plenty of girl or mixed brawls caught on camera).

But if we want to generalise, this is about young males, peak testosterone and too much alcohol. Not sure what the solution is, sell them less alcohol? Throw them out before they get really drunk? But business owners won't refuse the money.

Corinthiana · 24/06/2024 11:25

@clearwaterrising - I think that's interesting about the Swedes because that's my experience. I was at an event in Stockholm and I was taken aback by the drunkenness. We had to carry a Swedish colleague back to her hotel room because she was so drunk, and she wasn't the only one. High prices don't seem to deter them.

Why is is always okay to generalise Brits but not any other nationality?

And are we Britons, note the correct word, allowed to say we don't want certain nationalities here or would that incur accusations of you-know-what?

Nothing is better than the British press for blaming Britons for the ills of the world.

Badbadbunny · 24/06/2024 11:31

Wasn't there a mass "break through" from foreign football supporters at Wembley a few weeks ago? Basically a huge crowd stormed the security cordon and barged past them.

As plenty of people have said, it's not just the British who have a minority of mindless idiots causing trouble abroad!

Cecil Rhodes....is that you?

Sdpbody · 24/06/2024 11:55

It is not just Brits. It is drunk people, from all countries.

VolvoFan · 24/06/2024 12:09

YANBU. There are even some Brits that I'd prefer to not be in this country. Some Brits seem to hate their own culture and actively admonish it as much as they can, as if, as though they hate Britain, England, their own culture and their own ethnicity, so why should I have to tolerate them? They also seem to have a strong outgroup preference, especially in the workplace, as in preferring someone of an entirely different race and culture for a job instead of an English person. It's a sad state of affairs.

I understood what you said, I wasn’t arguing with you, in fact I agree. Airlines are better at not letting people on planes who are clearly too drunk to fly. My point is that once on board, the airline makes money out of selling alcohol so drinking is not discouraged. The cabin crew manage things as best they can but unless someone actually turns nasty there’s not a lot they can do.

I see. Yes, I agree with you, and they'd rather make the money than ban alcohol.
