Mass beach brawl in a beach club near Magaluf A drunken groom and the stags threw punches at each other , restaurant staff and security guards and other holidaymakers. Groom had to pay £850 bail to be released in time for his wedding. No wonder some countries dont want us.

Inside 'violent' Majorca stag do - mass fight, swimmers 'kicked' and 8 in cells

The Mirror takes a look inside an 'extremely violent stag do' in Majorca, which led to eight British men being arrested after the celebration erupted into a 'mass fight'

The problem is, that the locals only see that sort of Brits

Fat, alcoholic, stupid, inappropriately undressed and too racist to learn any of the language

Er, not where we are. The natives are our friends! We go to their houses, we share meals etc

I think you are being very opinionated here and judgy.

Why is is always okay to generalise Brits but not any other nationality?

I thought generalising was the done thing for other nationalities too.

Stick around MN for a while and your eyes will be well and truly opened.

FWIW I agree with you totally op and, no, it is by no means only the English. I don't tend to drink alcohol and all these problems are caused by people's inability to believe it is possible to have a good time without getting completely smashed
Britain as a whole has a very unhealthy attitude to booze.

I recently changed drs surgeries and had to fill in a form. For smoking it asked Do you smoke? For drinking there was no question asking Do you drink. It was straight into, How much do you drink was the first question. I had to reply that i dont. Then it was "have you ever drunk so much that you cant remember the night before" In the end i had to strike through , write N/A and explain that im teetotal and have never been drunk. But such is the drinking culture in the UK that the first question on a form is not Do you drink but How much do you drink.

I was coming on to say that. Isn't it mainly because people keep buying houses and turning them into AirB&Bs, driving prices up and stopping locals from being able to buy them?

Yes, there was a news article recently. I think they’re probably used to us being louts, but it’s affecting them more now. I can see why they’d be unhappy, yes we bring money in but now we’re driving costs up too. It’s not sustainable.

Likewhatever · 23/06/2024 17:53

It’s not Brits, it’s drunks. Drunk stags, drunk hens, drunk football fans. The trouble is, for some Brits, going abroad in a group invariably means getting drunk.

You mean the Serbians attacking the England fans? The England fans were praised.
We could pull up many news stories and say 'no wonder people are against them being in the country' for lots of different groups of men, across Europe.

WithIcePlease · 23/06/2024 18:50

Home today from Playa de Palma.

Not seen one drunk Brit. Arenal however full of drunk German youth in big groups as usual. Police regularly patrolling from early evening.

I like a decent walk so go to that area some nights but I would never go later than about 8pm And I wouldn't go anywhere apart from the promenade because of the reports of crime in the streets behind.

It'll be chaos there tonight with the football.

At least they're out of the UK for a few days...

SonicTheHodgeheg · 23/06/2024 18:52

Locals in touristy areas of Britain don’t want tourists either- they have similar concerns like AirB&B/second homes pricing out locals, traffic, drunken behaviour etc

Well that's what happens when you build a holiday resort based on cheap beer, all day breakfasts and karoike bars.

I'm not surprised the locals hate it, but many of these resort have built their industry specifically to attract these people.

Build it and they will come.

Corinthiana · 23/06/2024 18:58

Good point, @Jc2001 - that's the kind of people they want to attract. They want the money too much to stop it, really.

Spain in the fifties and sixties was a poor country. Southern Spain especially so. Mass tourism transformed the lives of the people who lived there, but at a cost.

It’s a different story now. They no longer need bargain loving Brits in the sun, and they’re taking steps to get rid of them. Can’t happen a day too soon.

wellington77 · 23/06/2024 21:16

I’m not sure if the OP is British or not, but it’s coming across rather xenophobic. 68 million people are not all the same

Oh FFS.

The Thais hate the Israeli tourists.
The Balinese badmouth the Aussies.
The whole of Europe and some of Asia slags off the Russians.
We go on about German towels.

Othering is about the most global coming together we have...

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/06/2024 21:21

@HairyChin where do you live where it's appropriate to use these words?

Er, not where we are. The natives are our friends! We go to their houses, we share meals etc

JohnofWessex · 23/06/2024 21:24

Do we have a problem with our drinking culture in the UK?

I suggest yes

You then have a holiday industry abroad that feeds that culture and airlines/airports that encourage drinking

Fun, Fun, Fun

MagentaRocks · 23/06/2024 21:25

We are going to Majorca in a week, we changed our hotel as the reviews were full of stories of drunk Germans. We are now at, hopefully, a much quieter hotel with nothing more than a supermarket and a couple of restaurants within walking distance. Hoping there are no loud drunks, British, German
, French or whatever.

What a ludicrous thread! MOST Brits aren't like this FFS! YABVVVVU!

Heatherbell1978 · 23/06/2024 21:32

Went to Turkey last year and I was shocked by some of the behaviour at the hotel. Not the Brits. There are some countries out there who are astoundingly rude to hotel staff and I spent the week telling my kids how not to treat people. In ear-shot of these tourists as much as possible of course.

Most Brits aren’t, but enough are for them to have gained a reputation in some holiday resorts. So not that ludicrous.

This. ^ I have been to Spain, Italy, Morocco, and France, over the past 7 years or so, and the worst behaved people are NOT British. I would not be so rude and obnoxious as to say WHO the rude and nasty nationalities were though!
