Decadent desserts

Spin off from the decadent food thread. What are your go-to desserts for when you want to treat yourself?

Mine: Tarte tatin served with creme fraiche. Pavlova with strawberries and kiwi. Crepes suzette (hassle to make, but divine to eat) Chocolate mousse.

OP, I've always wanted someone to ask me this question. How long have you got?
COLD PUDDINGS
Creme brulee
Pavlova (you have to make these 2 together to use up the whites and yolks!)
Lemon Delicious pudding (where the pudding magically turns into both souffle sponge on top and lemon custard underneath)
Proper trifle
Tiramisu
Floating Islands
Summer pudding
Eton Mess
Roulade
Baked cheesecake (better than the non-baked variety) with cream and berries or fruit puree
Lemon syllabub with little biscuits
Strawberry shortcake and cream
Orange and almond syrup cake
HOT PUDDINGS
Queen of Puddings
Fruit crumbles
Ginger sponge with custard
Spotted Dick and custard
Syrup Sponge
Proper Bakewell Tart
Clafoutis
Fruit pie (apple, blackcurrant, damson)
Jam roly-poly

And those are just the ones I can think of. If I want an almost instant pudding I mix thick Greek yoghurt with good quality lemon curd (M & S's is lovely). You can make a crumbly biscuit base and add mango and lime syrup on top to make it less instant but absolutely heavenly.

Mmmmm...donuts.

All the puddings!

Is that Delia’s lemon surprise pudding?

StormingNorman · 22/06/2024 15:09

Homemade always feels more decadent!

Summer pudding
Crème Brûlée
Chocolate fondant
Soufflee
Strawberries and cream

And for some weird reason Angel Delight for dinner 😂

DoYouSmokePaul · 22/06/2024 15:16

Oh how could I forget a huge pile of hot and crispy churros with dulce du leche sauce.

StillSmallVoice · 22/06/2024 15:20

I'm not particularly into puddings, but a couple of years ago made a Black Forest pavlova. Looked a mess, but tasted amazing.

SophiaElise · 22/06/2024 15:23

For me, nothing beats a homemade sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream.

pandasorous · 22/06/2024 15:28

fancy éclairs
soufflé
rasmalai/gulab jamun
a proper cake eg. sachertorte or tres leches

gardenmusic · 22/06/2024 15:46

White chocolate and raspberry pavlova.
Slightly burned roast peaches with clotted cream

HRTQueen · 22/06/2024 16:26

my own recipe came about when one of ds little friends asked what’s for pudding (I never make puddings) and when I said nothing but she could have a biscuit she looked so sad I thought I have to make something

its very easy:

slice brioche in half and spread with Nutella (a nice change is blackcurrant jam on first then Nutella)

put brioche back together then tear into pieces around 1inch

add to a bowl and pour over some cold custard

heat in microwave for about 30 seconds

It’s still a favourite 10 years later 🤩

Tiramisu

A proper fudge cake

DiscoBeat · 22/06/2024 19:23

Great thread. I don't usually make pudding. Boringly, usually a crumble, or strawberries and cream in the summer. Some lovely ideas on here though, might have to try some of those!

DiscoBeat · 22/06/2024 19:24

(if I'm out my go-to is creme brulee. I've yet to achieve making it right).

Originalusername89 · 22/06/2024 19:29

Creme brulee is my deal breaker - if it's on the menu I have to have it!

Comedycook · 22/06/2024 19:31

Creme brulé
Burnt basque cheesecake
Creme caramel
Tarte tatin
The frozen berries and white chocolate sauce in the Ivy.

I have a terrible sweet tooth 😂

JMSA · 22/06/2024 19:32

OP, I'd prefer something heavier and more stodgy than your options Grin
I love cheesecake and generally anything with chocolate, caramel and nuts.
Fruit ruins a dessert for me Blush

CoffeeCantata · 22/06/2024 19:36

Is that Delia’s lemon surprise pudding?

Yes - I think she has a lovely recipe. Mine was from an ancient Penguin cookbook for students long ago, but I think they amount to the same result. I think Nigella also does a chocolate version (she would!).

Now I apologise for the extreme unhealthiness and unsophisticated nature of this suggestion, but my family used to love it. It's very quick and easy and disgustingly bad for you:

Gungey Pudding
Whip a large carton of cream into soft peaks.
Get a packet of Maryland chocolate chip cookies and dip them just briefly in sherry (for adults) or orange juice (for children).
Use the whipped cream to sandwich them together in either a roll formation or layer in a trifle bowl. Cover them with more cream.
Leave in the fridge for several hours (or overnight).

When you serve it, the texture is completely soft and trifle/tiramisu-like. Most people cannot believe it's made of biscuits! The chocolatey flavour of the biscuits comes to the fore. I think you can also make it with ginger biscuits, but not just any type of biscuit. To be safe, I'd stick to choc chip cookies.

UnctuousUnicorns · 22/06/2024 19:43

Is there any such thing as a dessert that isn't decadent?! 🤷‍♀️ Ftr my absolute favourite is Eton Mess. 😋

OperationPushkin · 22/06/2024 20:22

I'm waiting for the posts that say, "How can you possibly eat anything so sweet? I simply couldn't manage more than half a biscuit once a year." 😅 For the avoidance of doubt, I am not one of those people. I have quite a sweet tooth.

One of my favourite desserts is a gingerbread blondie. Especially with vanilla ice cream. Yum.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 22/06/2024 20:36

I was surprised at how easy creme brûlée was to make when I got a blow torch. It became quite dangerous. It's not exactly a low calorie dresser and, due to the ingredient ratios, it was always easiest to make 6 at a time. The only other person in the house who likes them is DH.

Bluebellsinthewind · 22/06/2024 20:44

Another one for black forest, I had totally forgotten about lemon meringue pie used to love that. @thehousewiththesagegreensofa thanks for sharing, have been thinking about making creme for a while but kept putting it off as I thought it would be difficult to make.

Does anyone remember the pots of jelly with raspberries in them? I hadn't seen them for years and found them in Marks the other day. I treated myself to two of them... amazing!

gocompare · 22/06/2024 20:49

Creme brûlée

Or m and s rice pudding

I read a thread a long time ago on here where a woman said she found fruit so sweet she could only manage a piece every three months

🙄

KnitnNatterAuntie · 22/06/2024 21:08

The vicar's wife at a church I used to attend made Peach & Apricot Crumble in big baking trays every Harvest Festival . . . it was legendary

ILikeALemonWedgeInMyGin · 22/06/2024 21:12

Cinnamon rolls or fruit tart

BashfulClam · 22/06/2024 21:13

I made the easiest dessert tonight that DH described as ‘filthy’. We got lovely strawberries from a farm shop. I got meringue nests filled with whipped cream and strawberries then added strawberry tart sauce that we got from the farm shop and dark chocolate chips…it was amazing for something really simple.

Kitkatfiend31 · 22/06/2024 21:16

I am also a fan of Black Forest Gateau. Sainsbury's sell Patisserie Valerie slices of it for when I'm home alone!
