It's tickets, not bloody tix

It drives me up the wall. I've seen it on here this morning. Win tix for XYZ, just stop it.

Do you think there are people that don't actually understand that it's an abbreviation?

I think OP's one of them😂

thistimelastweek · 22/06/2024 07:30

I am responsible only for my own choice of words.

Each to their own.

LadyChilli · 22/06/2024 07:32

I hate x as any form of abbreviation. Pax for passengers, dx for diagnosed. It's lazy unless there is a need to save space on a document for some reason.

SlipperSliders · 22/06/2024 07:34

I don't mind tix but I hate inspo and promo, they just sound awful...like they are trying too hard to sound cool.

Anotherpotentialinhertiance1 · 22/06/2024 07:35

Why let it bother you

C1N1C · 22/06/2024 07:41

All those using contractions like "it's" above...

But that's exactly why Pax, Stat, Rx, Dx, etc are used.

Efficient, immediate, context specific, and clearly understood by anyone who needs to.

LadyChilli · 22/06/2024 07:47

@ASighMadeOfStone im not sure what Rx or Stat (statistic?) means but I'm referring to use in places like Facebook or forums. I will work it out from the context but it feels jarring to my eye. I've turned into one of those people 😆

It is*

LadyChilli · 22/06/2024 07:53

Haha you got me, though that's (that is) accepted as correct grammar and taught in primary school so should be very clearly understood by everyone.

ASighMadeOfStone · 22/06/2024 07:58

Rx is prescription (so medical context like dx) Stat means urgently, immediately.

I wouldn't particularly expect to see them on a social media forum, but I don't object to them in any way.

I'd not come across tix before, though promo is obviously widely used. I suppose that abbreviation began to save space on typology and publicity materials.

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 22/06/2024 07:59

I can’t be doing with abbreviations such as the hideous ‘vacay’ and ‘fam’ of the recent Mark Warner promo thread titles that @MNHQ inflict on us, but pax and tix come from the professional and work environments. I have used tix for decades as it was central to my work.

I tend not to use it colloquially though. I might write it but would never say it (and no one ever said ‘tix’ at work either. Just written)

Don't be silly @slimshady18 of course I know it's an abbreviation. And one I hate and that is totally unnecessary. Just used in order to look cool, and it fails.

Pax means peace to me

Are you ok with TV? Or TB ?
Is it the x?

I bet OP’s fine with them because they’re used by the middle class.

OP, stop the sneering and get a life.

redalex261 · 22/06/2024 09:04

Hate it too. Along with vacay, fam and various others. Xmas is the worst.

Bordersgarage · 22/06/2024 09:08

One of the characters on Coronation Street asked for a bottle of Cab Sav the other day and I felt like throwing a brick at the TV.

Clearly understood by anyone who needs to. Which is what I said.

Well, context helps a hell of a lot.
It's not beyond comprehension that pax means passengers in context of airlines etc. and it is more common than the Latin term pax.

BlackForestCake · 22/06/2024 11:43

The Dettol marketing team are watching this thread hoping for outrage.
